Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Not Fit to Be a Foster Mother 16

Xiao Bao picked a bunch of amaranth in the backyard, then ran to the front garden to pick a small handful of long beans and an eggplant.

Seeing there was enough to eat, Xiao Bao moved his gaze away from the taro sprouts. Xiao Bao loved the soft and sticky little taros the most, but they were still little and hadn’t grown taller than him yet. It would take another two months before they were ready to eat.

Xiao Bao counted the days on his fingers every day.

”Mom, let’s have eggplant omelette tonight, stir-fried amaranth, and stir-fried beans,” Xiao Bao said, carrying the vegetables to the grocery store.

Coincidentally, an aunt came to buy salt, she looked at the purple amaranth and laughed as she said to Yuan Chun, ”This amaranth only grows in the South, you’re quite capable to have gotten amaranth seeds. Are you keeping any seeds for next year? Remember to keep more, I haven’t eaten amaranth for so many years.”

”Aunt Chen, if you don’t mind the little we have, please take some and eat. I have some in the backyard,” Yuan Chun said as she gave her the salt and five-tenths change.

The aunt declined, taking only the salt, and waved her hand saying, ”I won’t accept it for free, let’s count it as fifty cents. I can’t take your vegetables for free.”

Knowing Aunt Chen was straightforward and didn’t like taking advantage, Yuan Chun didn’t decline, and tied the amaranth with a string before handing it to her. ”Aunt Chen, take care.”

After Aunt Chen left, Yuan Chun picked up her son and kissed him on his little cheek, laughing, ”Son, mom sold the amaranth you picked, go pick another bunch.”

Xiao Bao’s eyes lit up, ”Mom, I won’t eat amaranth anymore, I’ll leave it all to sell.”

”My silly son, if we can sell all the vegetables, then we won’t have vegetables to eat. That’s no good. Mom couldn’t bear for my eldest son to have no vegetables with his meals.”

”Then Xiao Bao will go pick some.”

Xiao Bao struggled to get down, then swapped for a small vegetable basket and went to the backyard.

Yuan Chun sat at the store entrance, humming a song while trimming the long beans.

After trimming, Xiao Bao also picked amaranth and came back.

Xiao Bao would take the vegetables to the yard to wash them.

There’s a well in the yard, but the mouth of the well was covered with a stone slab by Yuan Chun, and she had someone install a hand pump well beside it. Xiao Bao could pump water by himself and wash the beans and amaranth spotlessly clean.

After it turned dark, Yuan Chun closed the store and went to the kitchen to cook.

A small dish of amaranth, a small dish of stir-fried beans with meat, a small dish of eggplant omelette, and two ounces of braised pig’s snout and two ounces of fried shrimp specially kept by Yuan Chun.

Not much of each dish, just enough for the mother and son to eat.

After being full and satisfied, the mother and son went to the backyard, under the lights, to water the vegetables, pull the weeds, and plant seedlings... This was their nightly way of digesting food.

Both digesting and getting work done.

Furthermore, although Yuan Chun doted on Xiao Bao, she wouldn’t spoil him. Whatever house chores Xiao Bao could do, Yuan Chun would teach him to do it.

Xiao Bao was very obedient, diligent, and loved to work with his mom.

When working, Xiao Bao liked to tell his mom about things happening in daycare.

”Mom, today Fatty Li pulled Xiao Min’s hair again, I saw it and told the teacher, and the teacher scolded Fatty Li.”

Fatty Li, he was the grandson of Li Qianpo, who once tried to scheme against Yuan Chun.

Xiao Min was Grandma Zhang’s granddaughter.

Because she often came to her grandma’s place to play, Xiao Min was quite familiar with Xiao Bao. At daycare, Xiao Bao would protect Xiao Min as a brother.

”What happened afterward? Did Fatty Li threaten you?” Yuan Chun asked.

Xiao Bao hesitated, then told his mom, ”Fatty Li took advantage of the teacher not paying attention, pushed me, and said if I meddled again, he would hit me. I was upset, so I pushed Fatty Li back, and we both fell down. The teacher scolded both me and Fatty Li, but it was Fatty Li who started it. I think I was right.”

Xiao Bao pouted unhappily.
