Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 367: Chapter 367: Not a Fit Mother (Part 8)

Yuan Chun said, ”Xiao Bao is still young and can’t drink soda. But Mommy bought juice for you this time, wait a moment, Mommy will fetch it.”

Yuan Chun walked to the corner, pretended to take something from the shelf, and then had a plastic bottle of juice in her hand, ”Xiao Bao, this is juice, specially made for children. Drinking it will help you grow tall.”

Xiao Bao’s eyes shone brightly, ”Thank you, Mommy.”

He quickly grabbed the juice and started drinking in big gulps, ”It’s really tasty. Mommy, can I drink juice again in the future?”

”You can, but Mommy didn’t buy much, so we can’t sell it. Xiao Bao also can’t tell anyone, otherwise if other kids ask Mommy to buy it, and Mommy can’t provide, what will we do.”

Xiao Bao thought for a moment, then nodded seriously, ”Xiao Bao won’t tell, not even to Grandma Zhang.”

The next day, just as it was getting light, Yuan Chun got up to work, sweeping the yard, feeding the chickens, boiling water, checking the stock in the grocery store, and noting down anything missing in a notebook. She waited for her son to wake up, then sent him to Aunt Zhang’s house. She rode a tricycle to the largest wholesale market in Beijing.

When she returned, bustling with a cart full of goods, the sun had just risen.

She brought a soy milk and a bag of fried dough sticks that Uncle Zhang and Aunt Zhang loved to drink and eat to the Zhang Family to pick up her son, ”Uncle, Aunt, I bought soy milk and fried dough sticks, have them while they’re hot.”

”You child, why are you spending money on us again,” Aunt Zhang said sternly, ”It’s not easy for you to earn this money, save where you can. When Xiao Bao grows up, there will be lots of places where you’ll need to spend money.”

Yuan Chun smiled, ”Aunt, I know, I won’t spend money recklessly in the future.”

”That’s good, why don’t you and your son stay and eat with us?”

”No, Aunt, I still have some left, enough for me and Xiao Bao to eat.”

The soy milk in Beijing has a peculiar taste, and it’s difficult for non-locals to get used to it.

Yuan Chun just didn’t like it.

She took out from her hidden space two bowls of tofu pudding, some fried dough sticks, a few plates of mixed vegetables, and boiled two country hen eggs. The mother and son ate until their bellies were full and round.

After the meal, Yuan Chun opened the grocery store, arranged the goods she got from the wholesale market on the shelves, then placed that basket of peaches at the most prominent spot near the door in the store. Then she sat on a small stool, minding the store while doing handicrafts.

Xiao Bao sat beside her, obediently flipping through a small picture book.

The original owner took on quite a bit of handicraft work, and whenever she was minding the store, she would do handicraft work to earn a bit more income for the family.

Actually, the original owner was very capable, never stopping from dawn till dusk and always working hard, earning more money than outsiders expected.

Outsiders thought that the original owner, a young widow with a small child, running such a small store could only barely make a living.

But in fact, the original owner earned several times what an ordinary worker made.

In those times, a worker’s monthly salary was only about a hundred thirty yuan, while the original owner could earn seven to eight hundred yuan a month.

During the holidays, she could earn over a thousand yuan in a month.

She could earn a five-figure income in a year.

”Madam Xiao Bao, quickly give me a bar of soap.” At this moment, a plump auntie walked in, panting heavily and handing her fifty cents, ”Madam Xiao Bao, hurry, my clothes are soaking wet, and I just realized I’m out of soap, my little grandson is home alone; I don’t know if he’s playing with water.”

Upon hearing this, Yuan Chun quickly fetched a bar of soap for her and swiftly gave her ten cents back. ”You should hurry back; although it’s hot, the water just drawn from the well is still quite cold.”

Using her spiritual power, Yuan Chun took a glance at the plump auntie’s house and saw her five-year-old grandson was already splashing water in the basin.
