Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Not Fit to Be a Foster Mother 5

”In the future, I’ll keep an eye on where this money goes. You can’t use Xiao Yan’s money to get yourself a wife and have sons, or to buy a house for your son, or anything like that.”

Wang Dageng, his teeth grinding in anger, snapped, ”I won’t squander it. I’ll take good care of Xiao Yan’s money. You can be absolutely sure of that.”

”Oh, then I’m relieved. Since this matter is settled, I’ll be on my way.” Yuan Chun didn’t want to linger there any longer.

Her son was still at Aunt Zhang’s house.

She wondered if her son would cry when he didn’t see his mom at night.

After all, he was just a two-and-a-half-year-old little one.

Yuan Chun had bought a train ticket for 8 PM. Seeing that there were still more than four hours until the departure, Yuan Chun bought a large bundle of spirit money to burn for her sister at her grave.

By the time Yuan Chun arrived in Beijing, it was already the afternoon of the next day.

After getting off the train, she paid two yuan for a rickshaw ride and got home by 3:30 PM.

As Yuan Chun was opening the courtyard gate, Aunt Zhang’s voice came from next door, ”Is that Yuan Chun back?”

”Auntie, it’s me. I’m back. Let me dust off first and then I’ll come over to pick up Xiao Bao,” Yuan Chun called out in response.

She had been to the grave site, and hadn’t had a chance to change into clean clothes yet, and going to see the young child might transfer something undesirable onto him.

Aunt Zhang, being an elderly person, knew about these things, and said, ”No hurry, Xiao Bao is still sleeping right now.”

Xiao Bao was used to taking a two-hour nap after lunch. Since he was still sleeping, he must not have slept well last night.

Yuan Chun quickly went to the kitchen, boiled some hot water, washed herself thoroughly, found a set of half-new shirt and black trousers to change into, then wrung her hair dry, and tied it into a ponytail.

”Auntie, sorry to trouble you and Xiao Bao last night again. It was the first time he didn’t see me at night, he must have given you a hard time,” Yuan Chun said apologetically as she entered the neighboring courtyard.

Aunt Zhang was pulling weeds from her two vegetable plots in the courtyard. She waved her hand and said, ”Xiao Bao was well-behaved. Maybe because you weren’t around, he felt insecure. Last night, he neither cried nor fussed, but kept his eyes open until the latter part of the night before falling asleep.”

”Thank you so much, Auntie.”

Yuan Chun placed a bag of shredded chicken and two pounds of dried daylilies on the small table under the eaves, ”Auntie, these are specialties from my hometown. I brought some back for you to try. The daylily braised meat and shredded chicken soup are both delicious dishes.”

Aunt Zhang gave her a reproachful glance, ”You child, why be so polite with Auntie? Save your money to take care of Xiao Bao, don’t waste it.”

She continued, ”If you have anything to do in the future, feel free to leave Xiao Bao with me. Oh my, it’s my first time seeing such a well-behaved child. Even without seeing you, he didn’t cry or fuss, but he still looked so pitiful that it broke my heart...”

Aunt Zhang stopped weeding, washed her hands clean at the well, and pulled Yuan Chun to sit under the eaves, asking, ”Did you manage to see your sister when you rushed back this time?”

”No.”

Yuan Chun’s eyes were a bit red, ”I only saw my niece. My brother-in-law, that scoundrel, even wanted to push my niece onto me to raise. I’m already finding it hard to support Xiao Bao alone as a woman. How can I raise another child? Moreover... that issue with my sister, the car owner compensated twenty thousand yuan. My brother-in-law wants the money but doesn’t want to raise his daughter. How can there be such a good deal in the world? That’s my sister’s life money. This money should be spent on my niece. So, there’s no way I can take my niece in to raise, otherwise, my brother-in-law won’t give a single penny to my niece, then my sister’s life money would practically benefit my brother-in-law’s whole family for nothing.”
