Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Not Fit to Be a Foster Mother 4

Yuan Chun suddenly remembered something, and with a half-smile, she looked at her brother-in-law, ”It seems that you and my sister didn’t register your marriage, so legally, you’re not considered a married couple. This means you have no right to inherit my sister’s death compensation.”

Her brother-in-law’s face turned sullen, ”It’s true that we didn’t register, but we held a wedding banquet, and everyone in the village knows we’re married.”

”But without a marriage certificate, you’re not considered married under the law.”

The de facto marriage law hadn’t been implemented in the nineties yet.

Therefore, her sister and brother-in-law’s relationship wasn’t legally recognized as a marriage.

Yuan Chun snorted, turned around, and headed straight to the police station, found the officer in charge of the case, and asked directly, ”Officer, my sister wasn’t married, she only had an illegitimate daughter, so that man has no right to negotiate the death compensation on behalf of my sister’s family. He also shouldn’t be holding my sister’s death compensation, right?”

The officer was momentarily stunned but quickly came to his senses, ”Your sister and brother-in-law didn’t get a marriage certificate?”

”That’s right.”

The officer suddenly felt overwhelmed. He hadn’t expected that they had a child without having a marriage certificate. He said, ”Without a marriage certificate, they’re not considered legally married, so that man has no right to hold your sister’s death compensation, and even the settlement he signed doesn’t comply with the regulations.”

The officer stood up urgently, ”Mr. Liu, wait a moment, I need to make a call.”

Yuan Chun, in this life, bore the surname Liu.

Yuan Chun nodded, and soon the officer returned after making the call, sincerely apologizing, ”Mr. Liu, this was an oversight on my part. I didn’t expect that they had a child but no marriage certificate. So, I’ll immediately take people to the Wang Family Village to retrieve that death compensation. Do you want to come along, Mr. Liu?”

”No, you go ahead.”

Yuan Chun didn’t want to clash with a group of ruffians again.

The officer went out and quickly brought back Wang Dageng, her brother-in-law.

With the officer’s intervention, Wang Dageng didn’t dare withhold the money.

But since her sister never married yet had a daughter, the death compensation should only go to Xiao Yan. However, Xiao Yan is Wang Dageng’s daughter, so ultimately, this money would still end up in Wang Dageng’s hands.

But the condition is, Wang Dageng must raise Xiao Yan.

If Wang Dageng refuses to raise Xiao Yan, then he has nothing to do with this money.

After learning these details, Wang Dageng immediately assured his intent to raise his daughter well.

Yuan Chun laughed sarcastically and spoke again, not even calling him brother-in-law, ”Wang Dageng, just now at your house, you kept saying you wanted to give Xiao Yan away, you even pressured me to adopt Xiao Yan. So, now that you know without Xiao Yan you’ll lose this money, she’s suddenly become precious, huh?”

Wang Dageng’s face flushed red and then pale, ”I was just joking with you earlier, you really took it seriously? I’m in my thirties, and Xiao Yan is the only daughter I have with your sister, how could I bear to give her away? I’ll definitely raise her as a precious jewel.”

As he spoke, he sneaked a glance at the officer, afraid that the officer wouldn’t believe him, and then the money wouldn’t be his.

Yuan Chun said, ”Since you’re going to raise Xiao Yan well, you must safeguard this money. Although you hold the money, it belongs to Xiao Yan. Aside from the living expenses for the next thirteen years, the remaining money should be returned to her when she turns eighteen. This money is the price of my sister’s life, and it must be spent on Xiao Yan.”
