Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

The report hall was crowded.

However, no one paid attention to Chen Ming who was brought in by He Gu.

After all, not everyone recognized Chen Ming’s face, even if it was evident after disguise.

It was also because most of those who knew Chen Ming assumed he would prioritize meeting Bai Quan after arriving at the headquarters, and no one expected He Gu to dare bring him into the report hall.

At least temporarily, when Chen Ming entered the report hall, he didn’t feel anyone lingering their gaze on him.

Chen Ming moved slightly closer to He Gu and asked in a low voice, ”What’s this report hall up to now?”

”The report hall is obviously for holding meetings and making reports.”

He Gu seemed to have his attention on others, answering instinctively before realizing Chen Ming’s intention, and explained, ”It’s a meeting concerning the Beinu Star Realm.”

”Our headquarters dispatched such a large fleet there, and additional reinforcements will follow, so the rear definitely needs timely adjustments.”

”Adjust what?”

”You need to understand, the Beinu Star Realm is a star realm, and our legion is going there to control the entire star realm, which could completely support a legion.”

”This is an opportunity to expand the Fourteenth Legion’s military strength, but it’s also a place where problems could arise.”

Chen Ming roughly understood He Gu’s meaning.

The Beinu Star Realm is really far from the Fourteenth Legion headquarters, and with a realm-supported army, it could entirely break away from the headquarters and become independent.

Therefore, the Fourteenth Legion must focus significantly on vigilance against fragmentation to ensure that the part breaking away doesn’t form a new independent legion.

”Worried about fragmentation?”

He Gu nodded slightly and said, ”Yes, but there’s more.”

”You’ve seen how powerful the Fourteenth Legion is now; we’re the most prominent in the entire Empire. If the upper echelons have thoughts of splitting our legion, Beinu is the perfect opportunity.”

”So, we must be prepared for this possibility. Even if the top clearly indicates they want our legion to split into two, we must do something to minimize the impact.”

”This report meeting is to announce a management policy for the Beinu Star Realm discussed by the legion’s top brass.”

”It mostly revolves around a rotation mechanism for the management between headquarters and the Beinu branch, for reasons you understand.”

Chen Ming understood, of course.

Post-Beinu Star Realm, the management situation would definitely be comprehensively covered by the top of the Fourteenth Legion, with most of the top positions occupied by the Fourteenth Legion and a few by original Beinu natives.

The middle and lower levels would see a mix of legion and Beinu natives.

This means if the management in Beinu Star Realm doesn’t rotate, there’s a high probability that the same group of people will control Beinu during the legion’s efforts to take over Beinu.

That would definitely be a major issue.

So, until Beinu is completely controlled and most of the Fourteenth Legion’s power digests and penetrates Beinu thoroughly,

ensuring the two separate star realms absolutely don’t become independent is an essential task.

He Gu didn’t confirm Chen Ming’s thoughts with him, knowing that Chen Ming could probably guess it.

”Besides what I just mentioned, there are also a few new internal management regulations to be announced, suitable for the current situation.”

Management regulations?

Chen Ming was about to ask what kind of regulations.

He Gu already indicated for Chen Ming to sit down at the spot near the Spiritual Ability Research Institute’s sign.

The Spiritual Ability Research Institute’s position in the report hall was even towards the front section of the whole report hall.

After all, this department is ranked among the top few important administrative departments of a legion.

The other research departments that can compete with the Spiritual Ability Research Institute are those like the Ship and Weapon Design Research Institute.

Of course, while research departments are significant, they become less relevant when it comes to the legion’s movements.

So, when the legion arranged the Spiritual Ability Research Institute’s position, they placed it towards the front but also near the side.

It’s as if they’re in a corner of the report hall, unlikely to draw much attention from others.

”What management regulations?”

”You’ll know shortly.”

He Gu sat back and closed his eyes to rest, looking like the meeting wouldn’t start for some time.

But Chen Ming still had several questions he wanted to ask.

Most of all, he wanted to ask what He Gu meant.

Why did He Gu bring him to this report hall, to this meeting?

Under normal circumstances, even if they were to come, He Gu would first take Chen Ming to Bai Quan, and then Bai Quan would bring him here to sit at their faction’s seats with Bai Quan’s group.

The Spiritual Ability Research Institute, to which He Gu belonged, had no ties with any factions, so there’s no reason to bring him here.

There must be some reason for He Gu to do so.

But now He Gu was asleep, and Chen Ming had nothing to say.

He simply took this time to look around.

Not much happened when he looked, but when he did,

He saw Bai Quan’s old superior just entering from the front side entrance of the report hall, preparing to take a seat.

And at the moment Chen Ming’s gaze met the old superior, the old superior’s gaze also caught sight of him.

Chen Ming was certain the old superior saw him because his gaze paused on him before moving away, then smoothly passed over He Gu.

But he acted as if he saw nothing.

There wasn’t even any pause in his physical movements as he sat in the first row of the report hall surrounded by others.
