Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

He Gu once again adjusted something on the terminal and said, ”The Mechanical Race has also introduced some new units, like this one.”

The terminal projected the image of a canine-like mechanical body.

Upon seeing this mechanical form, Chen Ming immediately said, ”Something’s off with this thing.”

He Gu asked puzzled, ”I haven’t said anything yet, how can it be off? How did you see that?”

”The designs of the Mechanical Race, at least the ground units, have all been insect-related, without exception. This sudden appearance of a dog is definitely suspicious.”

”...”

”There’s actually nothing wrong with it.” He Gu said, ”This special Mechanical Race individual was found on a planet that the Mechanical Race has just started to colonize. It’s not a mass-produced unit, but a special one.”

”It possesses spiritual energy.”

”Spiritual energy?”

”Yes,” He Gu confirmed, ”spiritual energy.”

”It was recorded along with some other similar beast-shaped Mechanical Race while they were clearing the planet’s native species, and simultaneously recorded was the scene of them using spiritual energy.”

The terminal immediately began projecting a whole segment of the recording.

Watching the screen, those special Mechanical Race units moved extremely flexibly, continuously releasing spiritual energy, as if they were not mechanical but a thoroughly living entity.

Chen Ming couldn’t help but say, ”I feel like they don’t seem to be manufactured, but rather like something transformed from spiritual creatures.”

”That’s the speculation of many scientists too.”

He Gu ended the projection of the video and said, ”These Mechanical Race units, as special operation units of the Mechanical Race, could be used for some special operations by them.”

”The spiritual energy they possess would be a nightmare for all ordinary soldiers.”

Chen Ming asked, ”So is this the reason the Empire is assembling the Psychics? To deal with these Mechanical Race Psychics?”

”That’s just part of the reason. The main reason is that the Empire indeed plans to deploy Psychics, to have them also participate in large-scale warfare.”

”Hmm... speaking of which, have Psychics never participated in large-scale warfare before?”

”Of course, they have. It’s just that in past wars, victory was primarily achieved with battleship artillery and various technologies. Only in extremely urgent situations would top-tier Psychics be deployed to execute decapitation plans, destroying the Mechanical Race’s Mother Ship.”

”The Empire’s stance has always been that personal strength is often unreliable, and only collective strength is everything in war.”

”Rather than gambling on an individual’s success rate, it’s better to find ways to defeat the enemy through other means.”

”So generally speaking, Psychics haven’t had outstanding performances in warfare.”

”But now the Empire seems to have a change of mind, just like I mentioned to you earlier.”

Chen Ming seemed to understand a bit of what He Gu meant.

The Empire might want to use this moderately sized Mechanical Race war to test the pros and cons of deploying Psychics in warfare.

If Psychics demonstrate enough value in the war, then their status might even rise overall.

”So what will this war turn into? A battle of Psychics?”

”Who knows, perhaps in the end, it won’t be much different from before.”

He Gu straightforwardly expressed that he didn’t know either.

”In any case, the Mechanical Race now has entirely new Main Level weapons, new special operation units, which must be taken seriously.”

”These are just the most obvious ones; other aspects such as the optimization in various warship designs and the enhancement of the Mechanical Race’s combat capabilities are also areas to watch.”

”That’s about all I know.”

”So, have you thought about the question I asked earlier? Will you come to the headquarters with me?”

Chen Ming looked at He Gu, pondered for a moment, and then gave his answer: ”I can go.”

”But I need to go somewhere else first; it should take you some time to get back to headquarters, right? Wait for me a little, just one day.”

”That’s no problem, I’ll come to pick you up then.”

The two continued chatting for quite a while.

Once they finished their conversation, He Gu got up to leave.

Chen Ming also stood up to see He Gu off.

But just before He Gu stepped out, he suddenly turned his head to look at Chen Ming, a look in his eyes that seemed to carry a special kind of knowing.

Chen Ming felt something was off and asked, ”What’s wrong?”

”Nothing.”

He Gu shook his head, a strange smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
