Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 591: Chapter 184: Progress of Exploration_2

The Extraordinary explained, ”The direction in which Harmony Company’s Plant Research Station cultivates the Spiritual Fungi is food.”

”This type of fungi reproduces extremely quickly, and as long as it can grow like ordinary mushrooms, Harmony Company can cultivate a stable output of Spiritual Food.”

Chen Ming seriously considered what the Extraordinary said and realized it might actually be feasible.

Even though the Human Empire has not officially recognized the existence of Psychics, Harmony Company cannot directly market Spiritual Food as a selling point or gimmick.

But given that both the CEO and the owner of Harmony Company are aware, their Spiritual Food isn’t just empty hype and it will certainly find a market.

So if this Spiritual Fungi can indeed be successfully cultivated into Spiritual Food.

It will hold immense value for Harmony Company.

Moreover, Chen Ming had just seen that the report the Extraordinary gave him mentioned.

The radiation from the star in that Star System where the Plant Research Station is located had a consistent effect on many plants.

Specifically, it causes plants affected by the radiation to grow in size overall, with thinner cell walls and an increase in intracellular fluid, making them more suitable for consumption.

Although fungi are not plants, it’s due to the prior changes in those plants.

That Harmony Company decided to alter and bring the fungi here to attempt this.

The result of the attempt seems to have a real possibility of success.

Through the data Chen Ming brought back from the Space Station, the Extraordinary discovered.

It’s been a month since Harmony Company delivered the altered fungi to this Space Station, and the necessary stellar radiation should have already occurred.

Moreover, the Space Station has already applied for the next batch of fungi for experimentation, and the application was approved on the same day it was made.

If this project had no progress, there’s no way the Spiritual Fungi would be approved so easily.

So... these fungi might have already transformed into an edible form.

Chen Ming gently rubbed his forehead, after all, such fungi might still be best fed to the Insect Queen...

Though he had this thought in mind, he still asked, ”Do these Spiritual Fungi have any other uses?”

The Extraordinary replied, ”They basically only have their inherent function, serving as an extremely aggressive biological weapon.”

”Although these fungi pose no harm to humans, their ability to spread is very strong, and after parasitizing, they cause great damage to the host.”

”However, they have another very fatal weakness, a fear of high-intensity ultraviolet light, which is why Harmony Company discovered them deep underground.”

Afraid of ultraviolet light?

Chen Ming paused for a moment, asking, ”What about the starlight?”

”Also feared, but the star in the Star System of the Plant Research Station is unique, with its spectrum barely containing ultraviolet light, so the Plant Research Station could conduct subsequent experiments.”

Chen Ming instantly frowned and said, ”It’s not even qualified to serve as a biological weapon; to be a biological weapon, you’d first have to eliminate this weakness of fearing ultraviolet light.”

”Otherwise, if daylight comes and the bioweapon wipes itself out, that would truly be...”

Since that’s the case, he couldn’t help but really consider the option of feeding the fungi to the Insect Race.

Anyway, he could leave some samples for later consideration of other uses for these fungi.

But as the Extraordinary said, even though this stuff poses no threat to humanity, if released into the natural environment, it could pose big problems.

After all, these fungi are alive; they can completely burrow underground, remain dormant during the day, and become active at night.

This kind of biological weapon would be solved in minutes if used to attack humans.

But if it’s in nature, it poses a very strong threat to any organism.

Furthermore, if any creature gets parasitized, the fungi inside the organism wouldn’t fear outside starlight.

These organisms would turn into time bombs storing the fungi, extremely dangerous.

So Chen Ming thought about it and decided to let the Insect Queen eat the shriveled samples he had obtained earlier, for higher safety.

However, at this moment, the Insect Queen seemed to understand some of Chen Ming’s thoughts through the inherently multi-directional Hive Mind Network.

A hint of resistance was conveyed from its side.

It wanted Chen Ming to feed it the live Spiritual Fungal Creatures so that it could kill and personally devour them.

Although Chen Ming didn’t know what significance this held, the Insect Queen was protected by him, so it certainly wouldn’t just suddenly die.

Even if it did, he could just transfer the Insect Queen’s consciousness into another shell it had previously and voluntarily created.

So Chen Ming didn’t think too much and satisfied the Insect Queen’s desire.

Perhaps the Insect Queen felt that prey killed by itself would taste better.

But to be on the safe side, Chen Ming had the Insect Queen temporarily leave the Insect Nest.

Keeping a distance from the Insect Nest while consuming the fungi Chen Ming sent over, to prevent the spread of fungi from causing issues in the Insect Nest.

After all, the only threat to the Insect Queen on the entire planet is the Mechanical Race, which is now completely under Chen Ming’s control.

These Mechanical Race units could even be redirected to protect the Insect Queen, so there was no danger even when it left the Insect Nest.

Perhaps once the Insect Queen had killed and consumed these Spiritual Fungi, after digestion, it would face its next cocooning and evolution.

That night.

It was time for the weekly recording once again.

Due to the Insect Queen’s involvement, a lot more content was added to this week’s records, while some of the other content slightly decreased.
