Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 588: Chapter 183 The 2nd Cocooning of the Insect Queen_3

After waiting for more than a day.

The Insect Queen made a move again and successfully emerged from its cocoon.

Although there were no changes to the external appearance of the biomass spaceship, still covered by a streamlined black carapace.

However, when Chen Ming, while studying and distractedly controlling an insect to enter the spaceship’s interior, discovered differences in the evolved biological spaceship.

Originally, there were some fluorescent cocoons inside the spaceship that could provide a minimal amount of illumination.

They provided some light in the dim environment inside the spaceship for the insects.

Insects with night vision and thermal sensing capabilities only needed this little bit of lighting to move freely in the spaceship’s dark interior.

Now, all these fluorescent cocoons have been replaced by some bright green, seemingly radiative glowing crystals.

Of course, there is definitely no radiation involved.

These crystals are a conversion of Insect Race’s digestive by-products into biomass, condensed from the genes of the Energy Crystal Crab’s unique gland demonstrated by the Insect Queen.

These materials are like the shells on the backs of Energy Crystal Crabs, capable of storing energy in a self-charging manner.

Known as [Thorn Insect Race·Biomass Energy Crystal].

This item holds a unique significance for Chen Ming.

Because Chen Ming’s ability to date has an unresolved issue.

Energy transmission.

For Chen Ming, almost any kind of energy storage material, including all sorts of man-made batteries, once he uses spiritual energy to transfer it, all stored energy within it dissipates completely.

Only the self-charging material, naturally containing energy, can retain energy when influenced by Chen Ming’s spiritual energy.

Even when depleted, it can be recharged by some ordinary methods.

The energy stored subsequently can also be transmitted by Chen Ming over long distances using this self-charging material as a medium.

Based on Chen Ming’s prior understanding, the shells of Energy Crystal Crabs as self-charging materials are already much more potent than most man-made energy storage materials he has learned about.

Typically, the backs of Energy Crystal Crabs can store two to three times the energy of energy storage devices or materials of the same volume.

However, the energy crystals condensed from the glands evolved by the Insect Race after absorbing the genes of the Energy Crystal Crab are even more formidable.

Any random one could have five times more energy capacity than a top-tier artificial battery on a cruiser of the same volume.

At this point, Chen Ming thought he could rename his previous Energy Crystal Crab mass cultivation plan.

Change it to an Energy Crystal Insect mass cultivation plan.

Have the Insect Queen produce some insects specifically for the production of these energy crystals.

The cultivation of such insects is certainly simpler than that of Energy Crystal Crabs, requiring only the Insect Queen.

Easier to nurture compared to Energy Crystal Crabs, they can eat anything, and what can’t be eaten can be converted into insect glue by specialized nutrient insects.

Also, material harvesting is simpler than with Energy Crystal Crabs; it can even actively spit out energy crystals.

Just like what the Insect Queen just did.

Chen Ming saw the Insect Queen discharge these energy crystals from the biomass flesh when their brightness gradually increased after charging, reaching a peak.

Some insects responsible for transportation took them to the giant storage sac, which had shrunk considerably since it no longer needed to store fluid biomass.

Such insects, capable of mass breeding and production, can convert almost anything into food for the Insect Race and into this powerful material.

Chen Ming foresaw how important this would be for the development of his colony in the future.

Even as long as the Insect Queen exists, Chen Ming wouldn’t even need to handle the collection himself.

All he needs to do is find ways to apply these materials practically and trade them in the Empire in the future.

However, it’s still early for trade, and researching the practical application of biological materials isn’t as simple as simply replacing batteries with self-charging materials.

There are many complicated processes involved.

Chen Ming is confident he can come up with a result within a year.

But for now, it’s better not to think about it since his current technical level isn’t sufficient, and he also has matters on the extraordinary side to attend to.

So after confirming matters with the Insect Queen, Chen Ming decided to focus, checking for new changes in the Insect Queen.

Future matters are for the future.

After all, Chen Ming still remembers that not long ago, the Sinda Corporation had just researched and developed an antimatter reactor that is stable in large quantities and more powerful than all current power generation equipment of the Empire.

Energy crystals seemingly could interact with antimatter reactors in a fascinating way.

So, since antimatter reactors aren’t mass-applied yet, and energy crystals aren’t easily mass-produced by Chen Ming at the moment.

These two promising prospects are matters for the future.

On the biological spaceship of the Insect Queen, aside from the most obvious change of energy crystals, there were only some minor structural optimizations.

The overall change isn’t significant; it appears mainly that the Energy Crystal Crab facilitated the cocooning and evolution of the Insect Queen.

Previous creatures Chen Ming fed to the Insect Queen didn’t seem to have much effect.

However, just as Chen Ming was observing the details of the Insect Queen’s changes.

He suddenly noticed the Insect Queen summoning all the Insect Race members sent out to collect various foods back.
