Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 165: Chapter 145: Enhanced Licorice, Swift and Decisive

”The Medical Department is responsible for all medical and sanitation matters at the base. The Head is Hua Lingfang.”

”The Security Department is responsible for the security of the entire base. The Head is Lu Jiamei, and the Deputy Head is Qin Haonan.”

”The Trade Department is temporarily responsible for external trade. The Head is Qin Haonan.”

After announcing all the departments and their heads, Ren Yuanyang asked, ”Does anyone have any objections? Or is there anything to add?”

Everyone shook their heads.

At Peach Blossom Base, Ren Yuanyang’s word was law. Besides, with only a little over thirty people, these few departments were more than enough. Of course, no one objected.

”Since no one has any objections, we’ll stick with this departmental structure for now,” Ren Yuanyang continued. ”Each department head is free to assemble their team and appoint subordinates, but any deputy head appointments must have my approval.”

”Yes!” Lu Jiamei and the other department heads replied in unison.

”Next, let’s discuss my title. When we were a smaller group, it was fine for everyone to call me different things, but as our numbers increase, we should have a standard form of address.” Ren Yuanyang moved directly to the next topic.

”What about City Lord? I’ve seen that the supreme leaders of those base cities are all called City Lord,” Jianghu suggested in a low voice.

Qin Haonan immediately shook his head. ”This is just a forest, not a city, so that title isn’t quite appropriate. The boss is the one guiding us to a life of happiness. How about we call him Leader!”

The others nodded in agreement; they couldn’t think of a better title either.

Seeing no objections, Ren Yuanyang made the final decision. ”Then Leader it is.”

’It didn’t matter to him what they called him. It was just a title, after all.’

”Yes, Leader!”

”Alright, that concludes today’s meeting,” Ren Yuanyang said, ending it quickly. ”Elder Hua, please handle the handover with Lin Mu. Everyone else is dismissed.”

”Yes, sir!” everyone replied in unison.

As soon as Ren Yuanyang left, the others immediately started talking.

”Our Leader is certainly decisive! The meeting was over in about ten minutes!”

”Yeah, at my old company, any meeting would last at least one or two hours, and we’d never reach a conclusion on anything. It was a complete waste of time!”

”This is how meetings should be run. If there’s a problem, you solve it. None of that pointless bickering and buck-passing!”

The meetings at Peach Blossom Base could be so efficient only because Ren Yuanyang held absolute authority. Moreover, everyone at the base shared a common goal: to survive. They had no spare energy for infighting.

In contrast, real-world companies are rife with factions, and departments constantly shift blame onto one another. This naturally gives rise to the phenomenon of passing the buck and arguing endlessly.

Immediately after the meeting, Lin Mu went to find Hua Lingfang.

”Elder Hua, I’ll have to trouble you to brief me on the agricultural situation at our base.”

Hua Lingfang smiled and replied, ”Previously, the Leader handled most of the base’s agriculture. I was just in charge of planting and harvesting. There are some things about the planting areas that I definitely need to tell you about...”

Hua Lingfang spoke as he led Lin Mu deeper into the Banyan Forest.

Along the way, Hua Lingfang also explained how growing crops here was different from before.

Lin Mu listened intently, committing everything to memory.

Hua Lingfang quickly led Lin Mu on a tour of the area. ”That’s the gist of it,” he said at the end. ”If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to come and find me anytime.”

”Alright, thank you, Elder Hua,” Lin Mu said, cupping his hands in a respectful gesture.

Hua Lingfang waved his hand. ”No need to be so formal. By the way, the Leader should have given you the evolved licorice, correct? As soon as you manage to cultivate it, notify me immediately. The experiment I’m running is waiting on that evolved licorice of yours.”

Lin Mu froze for a moment, then asked subconsciously, ”Experiment? What kind of experiment?”

”That matter is confidential. You can ask the Leader about it,” Hua Lingfang said with a smile, shaking his head.

”My apologies, I overstepped,” Lin Mu said, immediately realizing he shouldn’t have pried. ”I’ll keep a close watch on the licorice. The moment it’s ready for harvest, I will inform you immediately.”

”Good,” Hua Lingfang said with a nod.

Lin Mu bid farewell to Hua Lingfang and headed toward his bamboo house.

’Peach Blossom Base publicly stated on the regional channel that the licorice plant wasn’t essential for them, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. They must have just been trying to mislead Dawn Base,’ Lin Mu thought. ’But why is Peach Blossom Base experimenting with licorice? Are they trying to verify some kind of herbal medicine formula?’
