Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 164: Chapter 145: Enhancing Licorice, Swift and Decisive

By now, Ren Yuanyang had finished breakfast and was preparing to enhance the licorice he had just obtained.

According to the system’s information, licorice is a perennial herb. Wild licorice only begins to partially flower after five or six years of growth. Even with nine full enhancements to its growth speed, it would still take three to four days to bloom.

Harvesting its seeds would take even longer.

After a moment of thought, Ren Yuanyang divided the five licorice rhizomes in his hand into two groups.

He would enhance two of the rhizomes for growth speed and fruiting speed, mainly to obtain licorice seeds for easy storage and expanded cultivation.

The remaining three would be enhanced for growth speed and medicinal value. Furthermore, the medicinal value of these three would be enhanced to different degrees for experiments with the Evolution Potion.

The medicinal parts of the licorice plant are its root and rhizome, so as long as it grew fast enough, they could harvest a large amount of medicinal licorice.

Having made his decision, Ren Yuanyang immediately began the enhancement.

[Enhancement successful.]

[Licorice Rhizome (+9): Rhizome Vitality +1, Germination Rate +1, Growth Speed +5, Fruiting Speed +2...]

[Licorice Rhizome (+9): Rhizome Vitality +1, Germination Rate +1, Growth Speed +6 (+5, +4), Medicinal Value +1 (+2, +3)...]

Now that their vitality and germination rate had been enhanced, he no longer had to worry about the rhizomes failing to sprout.

After completing the enhancements, Ren Yuanyang immediately had Lu Jiamei go and get Lin Mu.

Soon, Lin Mu hurried over with Lu Jiamei.

Ren Yuanyang handed the five enhanced licorice rhizomes to Lin Mu and instructed, ”Take these rhizomes and cultivate them! Once the stems and leaves sprout, you can plant them directly in water!”

Lin Mu stared blankly at the five rhizomes Ren Yuanyang handed him.

’I brought back more than just five. I swiped seven or eight rhizomes in total!’

”The others don’t have enough vitality. They won’t grow!” Ren Yuanyang said, seeming to have read his mind.

Lin Mu nodded hurriedly, took the rhizomes, and confirmed again, ”Sir, are you sure this licorice can be grown in water?”

According to what he had learned, licorice grew best in deep, sandy soil with a low water table and good drainage. Forget growing it directly in water; even a little too much water was detrimental to its growth.

Ren Yuanyang nodded with certainty. ”I’m sure. Just do as I say! For the initial cultivation, put them in containers. That way, you can observe for yourself whether they can really grow in water. You can get the containers from Jiamei!”

”Yes, sir!” Lin Mu replied respectfully.

”Our base will need this licorice in the next day or two. You need to cultivate them well!” Ren Yuanyang continued to urge.

”Huh?” Lin Mu was completely stunned. ”We’d be lucky if they even sprout in the next two days!”

As soon as he said it, he realized. ”Sir, you mean the growth speed of this licorice has also been evolved?”

Being new here, he still wasn’t used to the growth speed of the plants at Peach Blossom Base.

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly.

”I understand. I’ll take good care of them!” Lin Mu immediately promised.

”Good. Go back and get the licorice settled, then have Wang Feng come with you to the yacht for a meeting. Some work needs to be rearranged!” Ren Yuanyang said.

”Yes, sir!” Lin Mu took the containers Lu Jiamei had brought over, turned, and left. Jianghu left with him.

”Jiamei, go get Elder Hua and the others. Also, tell Si Youqin’s group not to start work this morning. Have them wait on the yacht!” Ren Yuanyang continued to order.

”Yes, sir!” Lu Jiamei replied and headed toward the lab.

When Lin Mu returned to the bamboo house, he immediately placed the licorice rhizomes in the containers. He was still a little worried they would die if they were soaked in water, so he didn’t dare to add too much.

He then called for Wang Feng to join them, and they all headed toward the yacht.

”Why is Sir calling us to the yacht?” Wang Feng asked, a little confused.

”A meeting. I think he’s going to reassign our work!” Lin Mu replied.

Hearing this, Wang Feng actually seemed a bit nervous.

Lin Mu paused for a second, then comforted him, ”Don’t be nervous. I’m sure Sir will assign our jobs based on our skills!”

Wang Feng nodded but didn’t say anything.

Soon, the three of them arrived at the yacht. Several rows of chairs were arranged in the main lounge.

Si Youqin and the others were standing around in twos and threes, chatting in low voices.

Only Jin Ziyu was sitting on a sofa to the side, gnawing on a braised pig’s trotter.

A moment later, Ren Yuanyang walked in from outside with Lu Jiamei and the others.

Everyone immediately stopped chatting and greeted Ren Yuanyang.

”Greetings, Sir!”

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. ”Hello. Everyone find a seat.”

”Yes, sir!” everyone responded in unison, but no one moved. Only after Ren Yuanyang sat down did they find their own seats.

”The main purpose of this meeting is to establish several departments, appoint their heads, and clarify each department’s responsibilities.” Ren Yuanyang got straight to the point. ”Based on the abilities of our current members, we will temporarily establish the following departments: the Evolution Institute, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Logistics Department, the Medical Department, the Security Department, and the Trade Department!”

”The Evolution Institute will manage all Evolvers and related affairs. I will be in charge of it personally!”

”The Ministry of Agriculture will be responsible for all agricultural matters. The head will be Lin Mu!”

Hearing this, Lin Mu was completely stunned. ’I just got here, and I’m already in charge of a department?’

Beside him, Jianghu looked at the stunned Lin Mu with envy.

Ren Yuanyang continued with the appointments. ”The Logistics Department will manage the collection, storage, and distribution of supplies. The head will be Xin Wan.”
