Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 156: Chapter 141: Seeking Refuge, Finally Boarding the Speedboat

Si Youqin immediately nodded and slowly shortened the tow rope, leaving less than two meters of slack.

There was a height difference between the speedboat and the small wooden boat, which was now very close to the speedboat.

”Throw the licorice up!” Si Youqin shouted.

Hearing this, Jianghu hesitated. He was worried that after he threw the licorice up, they would just abandon them and leave.

”Throw it up! We have no choice!” Lin Mu immediately shouted.

Jianghu nodded, gritted his teeth, and threw up the wrapped pieces of licorice.

Si Youqin cautiously stepped out of the cabin and retrieved the small package.

The military speedboat Qin Haonan was currently piloting was completely different from before.

The railings were covered with thick iron plates, a modification made by Jin Ziyu at Ren Yuanyang’s request in preparation for this battle.

As long as they were careful and hid behind the railings, the enemy’s light weapons couldn’t hit them at all.

Back in the cabin, Si Youqin opened the package in front of the phone’s camera.

Through the video feed, Ren Yuanyang saw the pieces of licorice, and a system prompt immediately sounded.

[Licorice: A member of the Fabaceae family, genus Glycyrrhiza... The pieces of licorice in the video are severed rhizomes with buds, capable of propagation...]

Seeing the system prompt, Ren Yuanyang said with pleasant surprise, ”That’s it, it’s really licorice. Let them board the speedboat. Have them stay on the deck and warn them not to try anything funny. If they do, kill them on the spot!”

”Yes, sir!” Qin Haonan replied, then shouted to Lin Mu and Jianghu, ”Climb straight up the tow rope! Once you’re on board, you can only stay on the deck. Don’t make any unnecessary moves, or you’ll face the consequences!”

Hearing Qin Haonan’s words, Lin Mu frowned slightly. ”There are still people behind us trying to kill us. If we climb up like this, won’t we become living targets?”

Right now, they could at least hide in the cabin of this small boat. Although it wasn’t sturdy, it provided some cover.

If they climbed up as Qin Haonan said, they would surely be shot and killed instantly.

’The team from Dawn Base will never let us board the Peach Blossom Base speedboat alive.’

”We’ll help defend you from the attacks from behind, but we’re only giving you two minutes. It’s up to you whether you come up or not!” Qin Haonan replied. ”However, we’re about to engage in battle with the Dawn Base speedboats. If you stay on the wooden boat, we can’t guarantee your safety.”

Hearing this, Lin Mu and Jianghu were taken aback.

”Will they really help us defend against the attacks from behind?” Jianghu asked with a frown.

”Right now, we can only trust them,” Lin Mu decided, gritting his teeth. ”I’ll go first!”

With that, Lin Mu immediately stood up, grabbed the tow rope, and started climbing toward the speedboat.

”Ziyu, do you remember what I taught you?” Ren Yuanyang’s voice came from the phone.

”Of course I remember. Don’t worry, Boss!” Jin Ziyu replied with a smile.

”Good. Make sure you protect them,” Ren Yuanyang said with a slight nod.

At that moment, the pursuers behind them also noticed Lin Mu’s actions and reported to their captain at once.

”Kill them for me, now! Absolutely do not let them board the Peach Blossom Base speedboat,” the captain roared in fury, spittle flying from his mouth.

The faces of the nearby guards were moist. They didn’t know if it was the captain’s saliva or the rain from outside. Whatever it was, they didn’t dare wipe it off.

The captain was furious right now; no one dared to cross him.

After receiving the captain’s order, the guards pursuing Lin Mu immediately increased their rate of fire.

RAT-A-TAT-TAT!

Hearing the gunfire behind him, Lin Mu felt he was dead for sure this time.

Jianghu was also too scared to peek out again.

But in the next instant, DING, DING, DING! A series of metallic clashes rang out from behind him. Lin Mu was surprised to find he hadn’t been shot.

’Could it be that those guards are just terrible shots?’

The thought flashed through Lin Mu’s mind, and he quickened his pace to board the speedboat.

But Jianghu, still on the boat, clearly saw a few sparks in the air!

’This is...? A Gold-Type Evolver!’

Jianghu reacted instantly and also started climbing up the tow rope right away.

With a Gold-Type Evolver protecting them, they truly didn’t have to fear the attacks from behind.

Having successfully boarded the speedboat, Lin Mu could finally breathe a sigh of relief. He leaned his back against the railing, which had a thick iron plate attached to its exterior. He no longer had to worry about attacks from the pursuing soldiers.

As an Evolver, Jianghu was even faster than Lin Mu!

Although the pursuers fired a second volley, the incoming bullets were likewise intercepted in mid-air.

Jianghu leaped onto the deck, leaned against the railing next to Lin Mu, and let out a long breath.

”This Peach Blossom Base is really something else. To think they have such a powerful Gold-Type Evolver on the speedboat!” Jianghu couldn’t help but exclaim.

Lin Mu, at his side, was taken aback. ”How do you know?”

”They didn’t hit us just now entirely thanks to the protection of that Gold-Type Evolver,” Jianghu explained. ”You must have heard the ’ding ding’ sounds behind us, right?”

Lin Mu faltered. He had thought that sound was just bullets hitting other things.

”That couldn’t have been the sound of a Gold-Type Evolver blocking the bullets for us, could it?” Lin Mu found it hard to believe.

Jianghu nodded. ”Yes, it was. The fact that they can control metal with such precision to block those bullets means their Mental Energy must be extremely high!”

”Peach Blossom Base really is powerful!” Lin Mu marveled.

Meanwhile, the pursuing soldiers reluctantly reported to their captain, ”Captain, we don’t know how they did it, but they blocked all of our bullets. Lin Mu and the other guy have already boarded the Peach Blossom Base speedboat.”

”Dammit! At all costs, keep that Peach Blossom Base speedboat here!” the captain roared.

”Yes, sir!”

On the speedboats that had rushed out, all the guards came onto the decks, aimed their weapons in the direction of the Peach Blossom Base speedboat, and stood ready to attack at any moment.

To their surprise, after taking Lin Mu and Jianghu on board, the Peach Blossom Base speedboat didn’t flee immediately. Instead, it came to a stop right where it was.

This baffled the pursuing speedboats. They didn’t even dare to get too close.

”Report, Captain! The Peach Blossom Base speedboat has stopped!”

Hearing this, the captain was stunned. Then he frowned and ordered, ”Surround it immediately! Take them down!”

”Yes, sir!”

The speedboats immediately fanned out, surrounding the Peach Blossom Base speedboat.

Lin Mu and Jianghu, who were sitting on the deck talking, suddenly realized that their speedboat had stopped.

From the beams of the surrounding searchlights, they realized that the speedboat they were on seemed to be surrounded by speedboats from Dawn Base.

”What’s going on? The engine didn’t die at a time like this, did it? Or did we run out of diesel?” Jianghu’s face was filled with worry.

Lin Mu’s brows furrowed. ”That can’t be it. Peach Blossom Base wouldn’t make such a rookie mistake.”

”But it looks like we’re surrounded! And all the Dawn Base guards have weapons!” Jianghu said helplessly. ”Even though there’s a Gold-Type Evolver on this boat, their Mental Energy is finite. Faced with attacks from so many weapons, even the highest Mental Energy won’t be enough to hold out!”

Lin Mu shook his head. ”Whether they can hold out or not, there’s no turning back for us!”

At that moment, the Dawn Base encirclement was slowly tightening. Some speedboats had already started to test their attacks, but they were shocked to discover that the surface of the Peach Blossom Base speedboat was covered in a layer of steel plating. Their attacks couldn’t damage it at all.

When the captain received this news, he hesitated.

He desperately wanted to go over and break through the speedboat’s defenses himself, but he was also worried about a mutiny on the cruise ship. It would be easy for him to go down, but much harder to get back up.

Plus, Peach Blossom Base was somewhat mysterious, so he didn’t dare take the risk himself.

”Everyone, aim for the speedboat’s fuel tank and fire! I’d like to see just how thick the hull of their boat is!” the captain commanded.

Just as they were preparing to concentrate their fire, Qin Haonan suddenly started the speedboat and charged in the direction away from the cruise ship.

”They’re trying to escape! Quick, stop them!” someone shouted.

A speedboat was directly in front of Qin Haonan’s. That boat actually turned its hull sideways, attempting to block the Peach Blossom Base speedboat’s escape.

”Sister Qin, the boat’s yours. When I give the order, just gun the engine!” Qin Haonan hit the brakes, handed control over to Si Youqin, and then, carrying several Iron Melons, ducked down and headed outside.

”Everyone, get over here! I’ve forced them to a stop!” someone on the speedboat that had blocked Qin Haonan shouted.

Hearing his voice, Qin Haonan sneered. He ripped the ”stem” off an Iron Melon, checked the direction through an observation slit, and threw it with one hand.

Then a second, and a third...
