Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 154: Chapter 140: Coordinating from Within and Without, Successful Escape

They didn’t trust them one bit.

The explosion started a fire, throwing everyone on the cruise ship into chaos!

The captain had originally ordered everyone to stay in their rooms, but the situation was an exception. Many people had run out, and Lin Mu and Jianghu, who had already met up, blended into the crowd.

”Did you cause that explosion?” Jianghu asked, completely astonished.

Lin Mu nodded slightly. ”Yeah. I was almost discovered. Luckily, the team from Peach Blossom Base showed up and drew their attention.”

Jianghu nodded slightly and asked in a low voice, ”What’s our next move?”

”Follow me. First, we’ll go swipe a couple of phones. Then we’ll hijack a small boat and head straight for the Peach Blossom Base team,” Lin Mu said, pulling him aside as they darted away.

”I don’t think we can use other people’s phones, can we?” Jianghu asked in a low voice, his brow furrowed.

”We definitely can’t use ones that have already been activated. But our targets this time are the phones they just salvaged,” Lin Mu explained as they walked. ”It’s a good thing Peach Blossom Base announced the start time of the undercurrent. Otherwise, Dawn Base wouldn’t have been able to salvage so many supplies.”

Jianghu nodded slightly. He knew that during the last undercurrent, Dawn Base had reacted half a beat too slow, only catching the final wave.

Jianghu himself had been discovered while the Dawn Cruise was on its way to salvage supplies. At the time, he was just using his Water-Type Superpower to clear water from a cabin when he was filmed by a Dawn Base drone.

They immediately sent a speedboat over. Jianghu’s Water-Type Superpower wasn’t strong enough back then, so he didn’t dare resist the armed guards. That’s how he was forced to join Dawn Base and got stuck with cleaning duty.

Soon, Lin Mu and Jianghu arrived at the supply warehouse. There was only a single guard at the door.

”I’ll draw his attention. You make your move,” Lin Mu whispered, then immediately walked forward.

”Stop! What are you two doing?” the guard immediately stood up and demanded.

”Our room caught fire in the explosion. All our things were destroyed, so we came to request some supplies,” Lin Mu said without missing a beat.

”Do you have a request form?” the guard asked, following procedure.

”I do!” Lin Mu reached into his pocket, pretending to pull out the form.

At that moment, Jianghu conjured a Water Arrow and shot it toward the guard’s eye socket.

The guard’s attention was completely focused on Lin Mu, leaving him totally defenseless.

And at such a close range, the Water Arrow instantly pierced his eye socket and penetrated his brain.

The guard was taken out by Jianghu without even making a sound.

Lin Mu gave him a thumbs-up. ”Evolvers are really something else!”

”Let’s just hurry up, get the phones, and get out of here,” Jianghu said, shaking his head slightly.

The two found the warehouse key on the guard’s body, and Lin Mu helped himself to the guard’s weapon.

They found the phones in the warehouse, left immediately, and headed for the lower decks.

Most of the guards had been reassigned to the main deck. After all, with the heavy wind and rain, the captain had no idea how many people from Peach Blossom Base had arrived, so he could only station most of his forces on deck, ready for a fight.

This gave Lin Mu and Jianghu the perfect opportunity to escape. An Evolver plus a gun—a small number of guards stood no chance of stopping them.

The pair successfully leaped from the cruise ship onto the nearest small boat. They used the gun to drive off the people on board, then immediately sped away from the cruise ship.

Only then was the news of the escapees reported to the captain.

”What happened?! Are those guards completely useless?” the captain roared in fury.

”One of the two who escaped is an Evolver, and it was a sneak attack. The guards didn’t have time to react...”

The captain let out a frustrated breath and ordered, ”Send a speedboat after them. At the same time, find out who the hell escaped!”

”Yes, sir!”

Just then, a guard suddenly aimed his gun at the captain and pulled the trigger without hesitation.

RAT-A-TAT-TAT!

But the captain dodged instantly, simultaneously launching a Fireball that smashed into the man’s face.

”Aaargh!”

The guard screamed and collapsed, his face burned beyond recognition.

The surrounding guards all sucked in a sharp breath, immediately suppressing any treacherous thoughts of their own.

”This is what happens when you betray me. Did you all see that?” The captain’s gaze swept over all the guards. ”Anyone who lets themselves be swayed by Peach Blossom Base will end up just like him. Is that clear?”

”Clear!” the guards immediately responded with respect.

When an Evolver was fully focused and prepared, it was incredibly difficult for an ordinary person to land a shot.

A coordinated volley from multiple people might have a chance of injuring an Evolver, but one-on-one was just too hard.

The speedboats that had been sent to pursue Qin Haonan had already turned back.

Seeing them return, the captain cursed, ”Who the fuck told you to come back?! Get the hell back out there! If you don’t take down that team from Peach Blossom Base, don’t bother coming back at all!”

With the earlier explosion on the ship, and the captain having to guard against sneak attacks from his own men, he hadn’t had a chance to order the pursuing speedboats not to return.

The speedboats sheepishly turned around again and resumed their pursuit of Qin Haonan’s group.

Seeing them give chase again, Qin Haonan immediately turned his boat around and sped off into the distance.

”The moment you’re in range, open fire! I’d like to see just how tough this Peach Blossom Base speedboat really is!” the captain immediately commanded through a nearby walkie-talkie.

”Yes, sir!” the speedboat captains responded in unison.

Just then, a guard ran over and reported respectfully, ”Captain, the two who escaped are Lin Mu and Jianghu!”

”Lin Mu!” The captain frowned slightly, then immediately ordered, ”Confirm if the licorice plant in the lab is still there.”

An aide standing nearby immediately pulled up the lab’s surveillance feed and replied, ”The licorice plant is still there, and the guard is right beside it. He hasn’t left.”

’He chose to escape at this particular time, so he must have heard the news about Peach Blossom Base. But he didn’t take the licorice plant with him... that’s too strange!’ the captain mused with a slight frown. ”And to think Jianghu chose to escape too... Hmph. A bunch of ungrateful bastards!”

After a brief pause, the captain ordered, ”If they want to join Peach Blossom Base, they’ll definitely try to use the licorice plant as leverage. Analyze Lin Mu’s movements over the past two days, especially after he left my office yesterday morning!”

”Yes, sir!”

Soon, all the surveillance footage of Lin Mu was laid out before the captain.

In the footage, the captain saw him frequently meeting with Jianghu in the break room. Although each meeting was short, it was clear they were communicating.

”It seems these people have too much freedom,” the captain said coldly. ”From now on, communication between people from different work details is forbidden!”

”Yes, sir!”

When the captain saw the footage of Lin Mu pruning the licorice plant, he understood at once. Lin Mu must have trimmed some of the rhizomes that could be used to grow new plants!

”Damn it, how dare he try to outsmart me! Once I get my hands on him, I’ll make him wish he were dead!” the captain snarled, grinding his teeth.

Meanwhile, the speedboat pursuing Lin Mu and Jianghu was rapidly closing in on them.

”Can’t you go any faster?” Lin Mu urged anxiously, watching the speedboat get closer and closer.

Jianghu shook his head, his face a little pale. ”I’m already going as fast as I can, and my Mental Energy is draining quickly! How about we just head straight for the Peach Blossom Base team?”

Although they had only found a light small boat, Jianghu’s Mental Energy was limited. He couldn’t keep using it to propel the boat with water for very long, and their speed was still slower than the speedboat’s!

Lin Mu could only nod helplessly.

’I didn’t want to negotiate with Peach Blossom Base right now,’ Lin Mu thought. In this situation, they were the ones asking for help, which would make it harder to bring up certain conditions.

If they could shake off the pursuit from Dawn Base first and then find the Peach Blossom Base team, they could have negotiated for better terms.

Seeing Lin Mu nod, Jianghu immediately steered the small boat toward the source of the broadcast.

Seeing them change direction, the speedboat behind them immediately followed suit while someone shouted, ”You two can’t escape! Just surrender quietly and beg the captain for leniency!”

Lin Mu sneered, went straight to the stern of the boat, and started firing at the speedboat behind them.

RAT-A-TAT-TAT!

CRASH!

The speedboat’s windshield shattered.

The driver immediately ducked.

Even Lin Mu himself was stunned. He had just been firing a few shots behind them to vent his frustration.

He never expected that a blind squirrel would find a nut and he’d actually shatter their windshield.

’It’d be great if I could take out their driver!’ Lin Mu muttered to himself.

People are never satisfied.
