Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 161: Chapter 144: Smooth Escape and Self-Recommendation

”Jianghu’s Mental Energy my ass! It’s just that his Attribute counters mine, and this environment is perfect for a Water-Type Evolver!” the captain fumed, utterly resentful.

Jianghu’s Mental Energy really wasn’t that high; it could only extend about three meters from his body.

The only reason he could so easily extinguish the captain’s flames was that, aside from the Attribute suppression, the surroundings were all water—a complete home-field advantage for a Water-Type Evolver!

The adjutant froze for a moment, then frowned and asked, ”Then what do we do now?”

”What else can we do? Retreat! If we keep dragging this out, we’ll lose all our men!” the captain said through gritted teeth.

If it wasn’t for the rain, the captain was confident he could take on Jianghu. But now, he didn’t stand a chance.

Hearing this, the adjutant froze. ’We came in with such a huge force, took heavy losses, and spent all this time fighting... and now we’re just going to retreat with our tails between our legs?’

”Don’t just stand there gawking! Relay the order immediately! Retreat!” the captain urged.

”Yes, sir!” The adjutant immediately relayed the order to every speedboat.

Upon receiving the command, the speedboats immediately ceased their pursuit. The guards aboard all breathed a collective sigh of relief.

They had felt like they were on a fool’s errand. The speedboats from Peach Blossom Base were like turtles in their shells; they couldn’t be damaged, and if you got too close, you might get bitten.

The few speedboats that had been hit by the Iron Melons had already turned back, as they had wounded crew members who needed medical attention.

Even though they were retreating, the captain couldn’t resist delivering a parting threat.

”Peach Blossom Base, I’ll remember you! From now on, any squad related to Peach Blossom Base will be slaughtered without mercy!”

”Why wait? Come and get us now!” Qin Haonan immediately ducked back into the cabin and retorted through a megaphone.

Hearing this, the corner of the captain’s mouth twitched. He pretended not to have heard and ordered his squad to head for the Dawn Cruise.

Watching the Dawn Base squad beat a hasty retreat, Jin Ziyu suggested, ”Should we chase them?”

”Just head back for now. You were lucky to have a Water-Type Evolver this time. Otherwise, you all would have been stuck there waiting for rescue,” Ren Yuanyang’s voice came through the phone.

The line between Qin Haonan and Ren Yuanyang had remained open throughout the entire battle.

”Okay!” Jin Ziyu stuck out her tongue, then frowned. ”Attribute suppression is so annoying. With that flame around, I couldn’t control any of the nearby metal at all!”

”The five elements create and conquer one another. That’s a fact that can’t be changed. All we can do is strive to increase our own Mental Energy. If your Mental Energy can overwhelm your opponent’s, you’ll still have a chance to defeat them, even if their Attribute counters yours,” Ren Yuanyang replied.

”I understand, Boss! I’ll work hard to raise my Mental Energy!” Jin Ziyu nodded solemnly.

”Haonan, find a few of the Fourth to Sixth-level Wind Sea Regions to circle around in, then head straight back,” Ren Yuanyang instructed.

He didn’t know if Dawn Base still had drones tracking them, so their only choice was to loop around the nearby waters and find some regions with stronger gales. Even if there were drones, they wouldn’t be able to follow them there.

Qin Haonan acknowledged the order, entered the wheelhouse, took the helm, and immediately steered toward the nearest Fourth-level Wind Sea Region.

”Si Youqin, prepare some food and take it to the two on deck,” Ren Yuanyang continued.

”Okay, Boss!” Si Youqin nodded, heated up several vegetable-filled rice balls, and brought them out.

During the battle, Ren Yuanyang hadn’t dared to interfere too much with the command. After all, he wasn’t there in person, so his assessment of the situation couldn’t be timely or accurate enough. He had to rely on Qin Haonan and the others to adapt as things unfolded.

It seemed that Qin Haonan’s ability to improvise on the spot was more than adequate.

On deck, the curved shield had been reshaped by Jin Ziyu into a rain shelter. Lin Mu and Jianghu were sitting under it, staring out at the downpour, somewhat in a daze.

Neither of them had expected that Dawn Base, despite dispatching so many speedboats, would be completely unable to touch Peach Blossom Base and would ultimately retreat in disgrace.

They both felt the relief of having survived a disaster, but they were also bewildered, unsure if joining Peach Blossom Base had been the right decision.

RUMBLE...

Both of their stomachs rumbled in unison. They exchanged a look and gave bitter, helpless smiles.

Dinner had only been a single bowl of watery porridge, and after the night’s chaos, it had long since been digested.

Just then, Si Youqin emerged from the cabin. She walked over to the rain shelter, opened a food container, and the aroma of food immediately wafted out.

”This is a reward for you from our boss.”

Lin Mu and Jianghu’s eyes were completely glued to the rice balls. They subconsciously murmured, ”Thank you, Boss! Thank you, Boss!”

”Take your time and eat,” Si Youqin said before turning to leave.

They each immediately snatched a rice ball and stuffed it into their mouth.

As the flavor filled their mouths, their eyes grew moist. They couldn’t remember the last time they had eaten a meal like this.

After each devouring two rice balls, they finally felt something solid in their stomachs.

Looking at the two remaining rice balls, Jianghu asked, ”Should we finish them?”

”Maybe we should save them,” Lin Mu replied after a moment’s thought. ”Food is scarce right now. We shouldn’t eat until we’re completely full.”

Jianghu nodded. ”I never thought Peach Blossom Base would even have stir-fried dishes. The color, the smell, the taste... it’s all perfect!”

”Yeah,” Lin Mu said wistfully. ”At Dawn Base, probably only the captain gets to eat food like this. For Peach Blossom Base to be willing to give a meal like this to us as a reward... They’re definitely different from Dawn Base.”
