Medical Sage

”I’m just going for a look. There’s no need for me to make a special trip to Italy to meet up with you, right? How about this? I’ll fly to the United Kingdom myself, and we can meet somewhere there later,” Chen Fei said, naturally shaking his head. He wasn’t a fool. Why would he make a special trip to Italy when he could fly directly from his home country to the UK?

”Ah, look at me, I completely forgot you’d returned home. The banquet starts next Monday, so how about we meet up in London on Saturday night? What do you say, dear Chen?” Old Brad gave an awkward smile, having just realized Chen Fei was already back in the country, and he quickly changed the subject.

”Sure, no problem. We’ll contact each other by phone then,” Chen Fei nodded. He then hung up and returned to the private room.

”Welcome back, Mr. Chen, you’ve returned! Could you please take a look at my back first? It’s feeling uncomfortable again.” Just as Chen Fei, our Young Master Chen, stepped back into the room, Secretary Dong Wencheng suddenly stood up, his expression somewhat unnatural.

”Secretary Dong, you’re not feeling well? Then you should stop drinking. What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

”Why don’t we go to the hospital right now? Health issues are serious and can’t be delayed.”

Upon hearing Secretary Dong Wencheng’s words, Slickhead’s parents’ faces changed instantly. Beads of sweat immediately formed on their foreheads, and they looked utterly panic-stricken. After all, what was Secretary Dong Wencheng’s status and position? If he developed a health problem from having a meal with them, would they be held responsible? Could they possibly bear such a responsibility?

”It’s nothing, nothing. Just an old problem. Besides, Mr. Chen is here today. He can just take a quick look for me, and that’ll be fine,” Secretary Dong said, shaking his head with a smile.

Was he kidding? With a peerlessly skilled Divine Doctor like Mr. Chen right here, who needed a hospital? That would be just plain foolish.

”Let Little Chen take a quick look?”

Hearing this, Slickhead’s parents were stunned. They never expected to hear such words from Secretary Dong. Given his status, how could anyone just ’take a quick look’? Although they knew that Little Chen, like their son, had graduated with a degree in traditional Chinese medicine, what real knowledge could a young man from a third-tier university possibly have?

Most importantly, if Little Chen took a ’quick look’ at Secretary Dong Wencheng and found a problem, what would happen then? Who would be responsible?

At this thought, the couple exchanged a glance. Then, Wang Ying spoke up, her voice low and hesitant, ”Secretary Dong, Little Chen is still young, and he studied traditional Chinese medicine, so… why don’t we accompany you to the hospital for a check-up instead?”

Clearly, they weren’t confident in Chen Fei’s medical skills and were afraid he might diagnose Secretary Dong with some problem, which would be a catastrophe.

After all, this was Secretary Dong Wencheng! The head of the municipal committee, and rumored to be a giant in the provincial committee! So even if such a powerful figure was willing to dine amicably at the same table, who could guarantee that he wouldn’t turn hostile if Chen Fei’s treatment caused a problem?

”Haha.”

But at her words, both Chen Fei and Secretary Dong let out a soft chuckle. As Slickhead’s parents watched in confusion, Dong Wencheng looked at Chen Fei with a teasing expression and smiled. ”Mr. Chen, it seems Mr. Hua and his wife aren’t aware of how incredible your medical skills are.”

”I haven’t had a chance to tell them. Haha…” Chen Fei touched his nose, a bit embarrassed, and shook his head with a laugh.

If anyone else had dared to question his medical skills like this, he might have gotten angry or even stormed out. But this was Slickhead’s parents… and their concern came from a good place, so he found it impossible to be angry.

Seeing this, even if Slickhead’s parents were slow, they could tell something was going on. Hua Ming asked in surprise, ”You mean… Little Chen’s medical skills are incredible?”

”It’s not just ’incredible’; Mr. Chen is a genuine Divine Doctor. Boss Hua, you two are from Northern Mountain, so you must know of Elder Du, right? You should know, even Elder Du himself feels his skills are inferior to Mr. Chen’s. He privately admitted that Doctor Chen’s skills are at least ten times greater than his. Now, tell me, aren’t Mr. Chen’s medical skills amazing?” Secretary Dong Wencheng said, his tone suddenly becoming extremely serious.

HISS!

Hearing this, both Uncle Hua and Aunt Wang sharply inhaled, their gazes toward Chen Fei now filled with disbelief and shock. Of course, they knew who Elder Du was. He was the foremost Divine Doctor of traditional Chinese medicine in Northern Mountain, and perhaps even in the entire Jiangnan region! His fame was immense. But now, Secretary Dong was saying that even Elder Du felt inferior to Chen Fei. Was this some kind of joke?

But how was that possible? That was Elder Du! His years of practicing medicine were likely more than double Chen Fei’s entire lifetime. It was a vast difference. Under such circumstances, how could a recent graduate from a third-tier university possibly be more skilled than a Divine Doctor like Elder Du? It was simply baffling and utterly unbelievable…

”Uncle Dong, you’re embarrassing me. Come on, let me take a look and see what’s going on,” Chen Fei said, quickly changing the subject and walking over to Secretary Dong.

”Alright, alright. It’s an old problem, but it’s become quite unbearable lately.” Hearing this, Secretary Dong was no longer in the mood for teasing. He lifted his shirt slightly and said, ”It’s right here on my lower back. I don’t know why, but a large lump has formed. It always feels tight and swollen, especially when I’m sitting. I even went to the hospital for a check-up, and they told me it was…”

”A lipoma?” Chen Fei interjected, finishing his sentence.

”Exactly, a lipoma.” Hearing Chen Fei name his condition so easily, Secretary Dong Wencheng’s eyes lit up. He smiled and said, ”You truly are remarkable, Mr. Chen! You don’t even need to confirm it with medical instruments. You could tell with just a glance.”

”Observation, listening, questioning, and pulse-taking. That is the magic of the medical skills passed down by our ancestors. Now, please turn to your side so I can feel it,” Chen Fei said with a smile.

Hearing this, Secretary Dong Wencheng immediately turned, allowing Chen Fei to place his hand on the large lump on his lower back and examine it.

”It’s likely due to sitting too much, a lack of exercise, and frequent late nights. On top of that, this lipoma has grown into a position where it’s pressing on a nerve, which is why you’re feeling so much discomfort.” After palpating the lump on Secretary Dong’s back for a moment, Chen Fei stated calmly.

”Exactly! That’s what the doctors said when I went for a check-up. They suggested I have surgery to remove the lipoma. However, I simply don’t have the time for that recently, let alone for the post-operative recovery.”

As he said this, Secretary Dong Wencheng looked at Chen Fei with hopeful eyes. ”Mr. Chen, do you have a way to get rid of this lipoma without surgery?”

He had actually known about the lipoma on his back for a while, and he knew it wasn’t a severe illness. The specialists at the best tertiary hospital in the city had suggested surgery. However, not only would the operation be painful, but the recovery would also be slow. Most critically, he would have to lie in bed for at least half a month afterward, which, for him as the head of the municipal committee, was unacceptable. After all, he couldn’t possibly govern his jurisdiction from a hospital bed for two weeks, could he?

”There are methods, two of them in fact. It’s up to you to choose, Uncle Dong,” Chen Fei said with a small smile before his expression turned serious. ”Frankly, in your situation, surgery to remove the lipoma is the most appropriate course of action. However, if you want to avoid surgery, there are non-surgical options.”

”What are they?” Secretary Dong Wencheng asked immediately.

If he could avoid an operation, he certainly wanted to. It would simply take up too much time. And for someone in his position, he had neither the patience nor the time to spare.

”One!” Chen Fei raised a finger and explained, ”I can prescribe you a formula. If you take it continuously for three months, it’s guaranteed to cure the illness. However, during this period, your body will likely feel weak, Uncle Dong. In a serious case, it could even affect your current work.”

”And the second option?” Taking traditional Chinese medicine for three months didn’t bother him, but the moment he heard ’could affect his current work,’ he couldn’t help but ask about the alternative.

”The second option is quite simple. I’ll treat you right now, and the effect will be immediate. However… this method will cause you some pain,” Chen Fei added.

”Some pain!?” Secretary Dong Wencheng flinched slightly. He of course understood that when someone said ’some pain’ with such deliberate emphasis, it definitely meant ’extremely, incredibly painful.’

”Then let’s go with the second method.” But he quickly made up his mind, nodding at Chen Fei. ”Let’s endure the pain. It’s just for one night. At worst, I can take a few days off.”

”You won’t need to take any days off,” Chen Fei replied with a smile. ”As long as you can get through tonight, I guarantee that you’ll go to work tomorrow brimming with energy, without a trace of discomfort.”

He paused for a moment before asking, ”Shall I start now?”

”Let’s start now. The sooner it’s resolved, the sooner I can relax,” Secretary Dong Wencheng said, taking a deep breath. ”What should I do?”

”Just relax. If you really can’t bear it, feel free to shout.”

…

With that, Chen Fei placed his hands on the large lump on Secretary Dong Wencheng’s back and began to gently knead it.

HISS!

In that instant, Dong Wencheng’s body shuddered violently. Under the shocked and anxious eyes of Slickhead’s parents, he let out a sharp, pained gasp, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.

His teeth were clenched so tightly his jaw ached, his face was deathly pale, and his forehead was instantly drenched in sweat. Even his fists were clenched, the veins on his hands bulging menacingly. It was obvious just how much agony he was in.

So it turned out that the ’some’ pain mentioned by Chen Fei, our Young Master Chen, was no joke at all. It was probably just as bad as undergoing surgery without anesthesia.
