Medical Sage

”Shuxian, it’s okay. Looking at Mr. Chen, he doesn’t seem like the petty type. Didn’t he say he would contact you later? Let’s go eat first.” However, despite saying this, his own status made him look down on Chen Fei somewhat, so he deliberately changed the subject.

”Yaoi Yang, I’m not making a mountain out of a molehill. Before I came back, my brother repeatedly stressed that I mustn’t let Mr. Chen be displeased in any way. And don’t be fooled by his youth; his medical skills are so impressive that even Uncle Du feels inferior. Even an old gentleman who came all the way from the Capital City to treat my father believes Mr. Chen is an exceptional individual and kindly advised us to take him seriously. But I never imagined Hao would be so reckless... sigh.” As she spoke, she couldn’t help but sigh.

In the past, she herself hadn’t taken Chen Fei seriously because of his age and almost caused a disaster. Now, her son and husband were acting the same way. It’s true what they say: birds of a feather flock together.

”Uncle Du? You mean Elder Du from Jiangnan Province?” Although Chen Yaoyang didn’t know who the old gentleman from the Capital City was, he certainly knew of Elder Du. His fame was renowned at home and abroad. Even some well-known traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong had once been under his tutelage, viewing him as a true mentor.

So, he was truly shocked that even such a figure, a veritable Mount Tai Beidou in the nation’s Traditional Medicine Community, considered himself inferior to the young man they had just met. If that was really the case, then his son had caused some serious trouble! His expression grew stern.

”Dad, Mom, I was wrong about what happened earlier. How about I go and apologize to Mr. Chen later?” Chen Hao, who had initially been defiant, felt his heart drop when he saw how seriously his parents were taking this, and he cautiously made the suggestion. Normally, he would never have admitted his mistake so readily. He did so now because he’d overheard that this Mr. Chen was somehow connected to his critically ill grandfather. His mother was a devoted daughter, and he himself had a deep bond with Elder Dong. In a situation like this, his own pride was unimportant. Being stubborn now would be disastrous!

”Sigh, that’s the only thing we can do for now. You two go eat. I don’t have an appetite. Have someone send me home,” Dong Shuxian said, feeling tired and dejected.

”Mom...” Seeing his mother’s state, Chen Hao’s remorse deepened, and he felt an urge to slap himself hard across the face. The man was clearly giving me well-intentioned advice. Even if I didn’t believe him, I should have just kept my mouth shut and listened. But no, I had to argue back. Now look what happened. I’ve upset him and made my mother this miserable.

”Young man, you’re from the Inland, aren’t you?”

Meanwhile, Chen Fei had already gotten into a taxi outside the Hong Kong Airport. The driver, hearing Chen Fei’s accent, knew he wasn’t a Hong Kong local. He immediately began to enthusiastically introduce the sights, and the two chatted warmly in the cab.

”Brother Sha, the target is alone. Chen Yaoyang’s bodyguards aren’t with him.” As Chen Fei’s taxi turned onto the airport road, a black Hummer followed stealthily behind. The vehicle was clearly modified. It had no license plate, and its tinted windows were so dark that nothing could be seen inside but pure blackness.

`GULP... GULP...` ”Hahaha! It’s rare for the Tiger Leopard Hall to be so generous. Thirty million for this guy’s head... he’s a real fat sheep!” A gulping sound came from the dark Hummer, followed by a sinister laugh.

”Thirty million?” another vicious voice asked, his tone thick with greed and excitement. Thirty million might just be a number to the powerful families or heads of multinational corporations, but to thugs like them who lived on a knife’s edge in Hong Kong’s criminal underworld, it was an astronomical sum they could only dream of.

”Brother Sha, what’s the plan?” the vicious voice asked again. This time, it was not only filled with greed and bloodlust but also with a pulsating, predatory readiness.

”Do you even have to ask? Fatal car accidents happen all the time in this dump. I’m sure those guys from the Flying Tigers squad won’t mind one more, right? Hahaha!” the man called Brother Sha cackled, his laugh pathologically morbid and chilling.

BOOM...

At that moment, the pitch-black window of the Hummer rolled down slightly from the side. The cold, menacing barrel of a gun emerged. It was a sniper rifle, aimed at the front wheel of the taxi carrying Chen Fei. The barrel shuddered violently as a large-caliber bullet erupted with a trail of pale smoke. The terrifying recoil seemed to make the massive black beast of a vehicle lurch back for a moment before it roared forward, charging straight for Chen Fei’s taxi.

SCREECH!

The moment the taxi’s front tire was hit, the driver, who had been cheerfully chatting with Chen Fei, froze, his mind going blank for an instant. Then, the entire vehicle spun out of control. Sparks flew as the shredded right front tire scraped violently against the asphalt, letting out a deafening shriek.

Damn it, someone’s trying to kill me? Chen Fei’s face went pale. He forcibly steadied his center of gravity, his expression turning grim.

At this moment, only he and the driver were in the taxi. It was highly unlikely the driver was some big shot who liked to keep a low profile. It didn’t take a genius to figure out they were after him. And they were clearly aiming to kill!

BOOM!

In the next instant, its engine screaming like a behemoth, the modified Hummer slammed viciously into the side of the taxi. The tremendous force sent the cab flipping, rolling several times down the road in a shower of sparks and a cloud of black smoke. It then smashed through the roadside guardrail and crashed heavily into the ditch below. But that wasn’t all. As Chen Fei was being violently tumbled around, his eyes locked onto a fist-sized black object thrown through the window just before the taxi was hit. A sudden numbness washed over him, and the hair all over his body stood on end.

A grenade?! His lips felt dry as he muttered hoarsely. He never imagined someone would hire such professional assassins just to kill him! They sniped the tire, rammed the car to flip it, and still managed to calmly toss in an armed grenade in the blink of an eye. A chill ran down his spine, but at the same time, a furious flame ignited in his eyes.

”I’m sorry,” Chen Fei said, glancing at the driver who was now unconscious, his lower body pinned by the twisted metal of the driver’s seat. A look of apology flashed across his face. Without hesitation, he grabbed the car door, tore it from its hinges, and rolled out of the taxi. A faint white barrier of light quickly formed around his body.

BOOM!

An ear-shattering explosion erupted. Chen Fei, lying extremely close to the taxi, felt a terrifying pressure wave crush him, making his eardrums feel as if they were about to burst. The horrifying shockwave lasted only a moment, however. When Chen Fei pushed himself up from the ground and opened his eyes, the taxi’s wreckage was a blazing inferno. He could vaguely make out the shattered remains of the driver inside—a truly tragic sight.

”Damn you!” Chen Fei’s face turned savage. He stomped his foot, and a large rock beneath it instantly crumbled to dust.

Just because he was their target, an innocent taxi driver had suffered a senseless death. The thought filled him with immense guilt and a towering rage.

”Fine. Just fine. You really think I, Chen Fei, am that easy to bully, don’t you?” His expression turned utterly frigid, and his hoarse whisper was laced with killing intent. No matter who you are, this isn’t over. I, Chen Fei, swear I will make you pay!

The assassins were perhaps overconfident, believing no one could survive a grenade blast at point-blank range. After staging the ’accident’, they sped away in their roaring, modified Hummer, laughing manically as they went.

They—no, *he* was a professional assassin. To him, jobs like this were routine; they no longer stirred any emotion in him. Perhaps the only things that could excite his numb, cold-blooded nerves were the thirty million and the perverse satisfaction of having personally directed this textbook, artistic slaughter.

A sense of achievement! Yes, it was this twisted version of it that made his blood surge with excitement to the point of ecstasy.

”Hey, you remember our deal, right?” Inside the black beast howling down the Hong Kong Airport road, the man with the sniper rifle, known as ’Brother Sha’, gave a wicked smile. He caressed his precious weapon with one hand while pulling out a walkie-talkie with the other.

”Don’t worry. The money is already in your account,” a flat, emotionless voice crackled back hoarsely.

”So efficient. You truly are the kind of major client Black Shark admires. Until we meet again.” Hearing this, a twisted smile spread across Black Shark’s face. He cut the transmission, and the monstrous black Hummer vanished at the end of the road.

「...」

As for Chen Fei, who had just survived the terrifying attack, he was sitting expressionlessly not far from the wreckage.

He glanced at the shattered pieces of the phone he had just tossed aside, then took one last, deep look at the charred form within the taxi’s wreckage. A flicker of apology crossed his eyes, followed instantly by a terrifyingly sharp glint. Then, he stood up and walked away.
