Medical Sage

”My name is Chen Fei.”

Chen Fei was actually quite impressed by her. He was treating her wounds without any Silver Needles for anesthesia, yet she endured it without crying out. That alone proved this woman’s endurance was far from ordinary; it was terrifying.

”Can you hurry up?” Zhao Xin couldn’t help but ask, her face slightly flushed.

”I wish I could, but the blade on that guy’s shoe seems to be poisoned,” Chen Fei said with a frown, looking at the wound that was starting to turn black.

Although such a minor injury was nothing to him—even a poisoned one wasn’t a major issue—the problem was that he had no tools. Using his Spiritual Energy to heal her would be too strange and could easily expose him.

”What do we do then?” Upon hearing the blade was poisoned, Zhao Xin couldn’t help but frown.

”I need tools to detoxify and heal you. How about this: if you trust me, come with me,” Chen Fei said after a moment of silent consideration.

He knew that she likely had a complicated background, a story of her own. Bringing her along might embroil him in unnecessary trouble, where the costs would far outweigh the benefits. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to ignore someone who was injured. Besides, they had fought side-by-side earlier.

”No!”

But hearing his words, Zhao Xin shook her head decisively. ”I’m in a very dangerous situation right now, and I’m being hunted. I don’t want to drag you into this. Besides, I have to go retrieve something right now.” As she spoke, she struggled to stand up.

”You know it’s dangerous, yet you still insist on going. Is that thing more important than your life?” Chen Fei asked with a wry smile, holding her down.

Zhao Xin fell silent for a moment but continued to struggle to her feet.

”Alright, then.”

Chen Fei kept her down, not letting her have her way. He said softly, ”I’ll get it for you. Don’t worry, I won’t peek.”

”You’ll get it?” Zhao Xin looked up at Chen Fei, an unusual glint appearing in her eyes.

”What, you don’t think I can?” Chen Fei asked with a soft laugh.

”It’s not that...” Zhao Xin shook her head and hesitated. ”That item is top secret and extremely important. My colleagues and I nearly died to get it, so there can’t be any mishaps.”

”You and your colleagues?” Chen Fei paused and asked, ”Where are they now? You could tell me their location, and I’ll find them and have them get it.”

”Them?” A shadow fell over Zhao Xin’s face. ”They’re dead. Killed by those beasts from Tiger Leopard Hall...”

”Dead?” Chen Fei was stunned, his expression growing complicated.

He was beginning to understand why Zhao Xin didn’t trust him. Judging by her actions and words, she was definitely involved in something unusual.

But just then, Zhao Xin suddenly spoke again, looking at Chen Fei. ”I’ll trust you this one time. Please don’t let me down... Do you remember the spot where I got in the car earlier? From there, head north for a few kilometers, and you’ll find a small motel called ’Peng Yun’. The item is hidden under the bed in the second room from the far left on the second floor.”

Chen Fei paused again before nodding softly. ”I understand. You should rest for a while. You’re not in good shape right now.”

”Mhm...”

Zhao Xin gave a weak nod. Then, as if remembering something, she pulled a dagger from her waist, staggered to her feet, and walked over to Poison Scorpion, who Chen Fei had knocked unconscious with a kick. Her eyes turned cold as she drove the dagger straight through his chest.

SQUELCH!

Blood splattered everywhere.

Chen Fei felt a knot of discomfort in his stomach at the sight. He hesitated for a moment but swallowed his words and said nothing.

”Do you think I’m too cruel?” Zhao Xin asked, her face pale.

”Cruel? Not really. It’s just that I’ve never seen someone get killed before, so it’s a bit unsettling,” Chen Fei said after some thought, shaking his head.

”If you knew what these guys do, you wouldn’t pity them. Do you know? Conservatively, these three have at least a hundred lives on their hands,” Zhao Xin said coldly.

”A hundred lives? Then they really do deserve to die!” Chen Fei’s expression changed instantly, an uncontrollable rage welling up inside him.

If that was true, and if he had known earlier, he definitely wouldn’t have shown any mercy. With his current strength, one kick would have been enough to shatter the man’s skull.

Shortly after the call was connected, the California Garden Grand Hotel sent a car over. The driver and the hotel manager had strange expressions when they saw the injured Zhao Xin. However, they were tactful enough not to ask any questions and quietly drove her back to the hotel.

Chen Fei, meanwhile, hailed another cab and went to the motel named ’Pengcheng’ to retrieve the item Zhao Xin had left there. He didn’t look to see what it was, but he had a vague idea.

Soon, he returned to the hotel.

”You’re back? Where’s the item, did you get it?” Zhao Xin, lying on the bed, asked eagerly as soon as he returned. The fresh bandages on her wounds made it clear the hotel’s on-call doctor had already administered first aid.

”Yes, I got it,” Chen Fei nodded, handing the securely wrapped package to her.

Zhao Xin took it and inspected it carefully. Seeing that it was indeed the item she had risked her life for, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. The heavy stone in her heart was finally lifted.

”Thank goodness it was retrieved. Otherwise, my colleagues would have truly died in vain,” Zhao Xin murmured before thanking Chen Fei. ”In any case, thank you.”

After a pause, she added, ”However, this matter is of great importance, so I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you exactly what this is.”

”No need,” Chen Fei shook his head, replying calmly. ”I have a rough idea anyway. It’s about those people, right?”

Chen Fei pointed a finger upwards.

Zhao Xin looked startled for a moment, then sighed softly. ”Inside is a letter and a statement of account... What I can tell you is this: as long as I get this back, it will cause a major upheaval in Northern Mountain City.”

”Is that so?” Chen Fei nodded, not surprised. ”Alright, let’s not talk about this. I should treat your wounds first.”

”Treat my wounds? Hasn’t the doctor already tended to them?” Zhao Xin asked, puzzled.
