Medical Sage

On the second day, Chen Fei set off alone for Northern Mountain City on a high-speed train. Slickhead was busy with the Jin Zun Jewelry partnership, Gu Feishuang was preparing for an audition, and Xiao Ming had his hands full with family matters, so naturally, no one was available to accompany him.

Then he made a call to Young Master Huang Feng. ”Young Master Feng? It’s me. I need a favor.”

Over on the other end, Huang Feng was enjoying a gentle massage from a cute young beauty. But as soon as he heard the special ringtone he had set for a certain person, his expression changed instantly. He shot up from the massage bed and answered the call.

”Hello, is this Doctor Chen? A favor? Just say the word! I’ll do my utmost to help you,” Huang Feng said excitedly, his words rushing out as soon as he heard Chen Fei needed his help.

No way! This was the first time Chen Fei had personally asked him for help. If he handled this well, wouldn’t it be a great achievement? Of course, he couldn’t help but be excited.

”Here’s the thing,” Chen Fei said. ”I’ve been thinking about buying a car recently, but getting my driver’s license is a hassle; it’s taking too long. Could you pull some strings for me? Maybe set up a time so I can go over and take all the tests at once?”

”A driver’s license?”

Huang Feng was taken aback. He regarded Chen Fei as a god-like figure, yet here he was asking for help with such a trivial matter. He was a little disappointed at first, but then he quickly replied, ”That’s no problem at all. How about this, Doctor Chen? Just tell me when you’re free, and I’ll arrange everything for that day.”

”That would be great. Let’s make it tomorrow. I’m free all day,” Chen Fei said, delighted. If he had known Huang Feng could handle this, he would have called sooner instead of waiting all those days, still not even scheduled for his practical exam.

If he kept waiting, heaven knows when he would get his license. By the time he did, he might not even feel like driving anymore.

After all, for the current Chen Fei, buying a car was just a whim. If he wanted one, he’d buy it; if not, he wouldn’t. He had the money to be capricious!

The next day, Huang Feng used his connections to arrange Chen Fei’s driving test for early that morning. Seeing such a spectacle, with Deputy Mayor Huang’s son personally clearing the way, the examiners were all prepared to turn a blind eye. No matter how terrible or unsightly Chen Fei’s driving was, they were ready to give him the green light all the way through and issue the license.

Clearly, they all saw Chen Fei as some big shot whose driving was so awful that he had to pull strings to get a license.

However, when Chen Fei passed all four sections of the test almost perfectly, they were all stunned, their jaws nearly hitting the ground.

It wasn’t that his driving was bad; it was that it was exceptionally good. It was so good that even seasoned drivers with twenty or thirty years of experience covered their faces in shame, feeling utterly outclassed.

What the hell, is this some kind of joke? With skills like these, he needs connections to get a driver’s license? What does that make us? We might as well just find a block of tofu to smash our heads on and end it all.

Northern Mountain City was one of the top cities in Jiangnan Province, its economic strength and cultural heritage second only to the provincial capital. Naturally, it was favored by many domestic and international automobile brands, which established dealerships there, with the highest concentration along Airport Avenue.

From lower-end brands like Hyundai, Kia, Great Wall, and Geely…

To mid-to-high-end ones like Chevrolet, Peugeot, Buick, and Honda…

To higher-end marques like Jaguar, Lexus, Infiniti, and Mercedes-Benz…

And even the top-tier brands like Porsche, Maserati, Ferrari, and Bentley…

You could say that Airport Avenue had it all. This was, of course, related to the city’s early urban planning. The city’s leaders had the foresight to develop the area into the automotive hub of southwestern Huaxia, with a car market even more popular than the provincial capital’s, which spoke volumes.

Chen Fei arrived by bus. As he stepped off, he was greeted by a wide road lined with luxurious 4S dealerships on both sides.

There are so many dealerships here. Which one should I start with? Since he hadn’t given any thought to what kind of car he wanted, Chen Fei found himself at a loss standing by the bus stop.

In his view, a car just needed to be easy to drive, nice to look at, and comfortable to sit in. The price was certainly not an issue. After all, he was now a legitimate multi-millionaire. What couldn’t he afford, aside from those absurdly expensive collector’s edition sports cars?

”Young man, are you here to buy a car, too? What a coincidence, so am I. You seem to be having trouble. Are you on a tight budget and don’t know what to choose? Mind telling me your price range? I might not be an expert in much, but when it comes to cars, I know a thing or two,” a middle-aged man in a black shirt asked with a friendly smile, having apparently overheard Chen Fei muttering to himself.

”My budget... well, I’m not really worried about the price. I just want to find a car that’s comfortable to drive,” Chen Fei replied with a grateful smile.

”Price isn’t a concern? Well, what do you know? You’re a rich man, hahaha!”

The middle-aged man laughed in surprise, then offered some advice. ”Since price isn’t a concern and you want comfort, I suggest you consider an SUV. Jaguar and Land Rover are both pretty good. Of course, if you prefer sedans, I’d recommend Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. Isn’t there that saying, ’Drive a Benz, ride in a BMW’?”

”Lexus and Mercedes-Benz? I think Lexus is a Japanese brand, right? I’ll go check out the Mercedes-Benz dealership, then. Thanks, uncle,” Chen Fei said with a nod, politely taking his leave of the kind man.

Although he didn’t know much about cars, he was at least aware of the three big names famous in the country: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. He knew Audi, for example, was known for being a government official’s car, but he found its styling too monotonous and uniform for his taste, so he immediately ruled it out.

As for the remaining two, Mercedes-Benz and BMW… there was indeed the saying, ”Drive a Benz, ride in a BMW,” which implied that the driving experience of a Mercedes-Benz was superior. In terms of exterior design, Chen Fei also preferred the former.

As for why he didn’t choose an SUV, it was probably because he didn’t really understand what ”SUV” meant. English, no understand!

As one of the three most famous automotive giants in the country, the Mercedes-Benz 4S dealership occupied a prime spot in the most conspicuous and bustling location on Airport Avenue. It was a luxurious building, three or four stories tall, looking impressive and stylish from a distance. Chen Fei casually walked inside.

Through the semi-transparent glass walls of the first-floor showroom, an array of the brand’s classic models were displayed majestically—the S-Class, E320, C200, GL400, and more—in a dazzling exhibit.

So many cars.

At that moment, even Chen Fei couldn’t help but look like a country bumpkin in the big city. It was his first time seeing so many luxury cars gathered in one place, all brand new and gleaming. The effect was amplified by the bright lights and the endless bombardment of LED promotional videos, creating an overwhelming spectacle.

However, he had barely been standing there for a moment when a sales associate with light makeup approached him. ”Hello, sir. Are you here to look at cars? Please let me know if there’s anything you need.”

It had to be said, as one of the country’s three automotive giants, Mercedes-Benz certainly had a system for selecting and training its sales staff. It wasn’t that the saleswoman was particularly beautiful or flauntingly suggestive, hinting that she wouldn’t mind a ”special encounter” if it led to a sale. On the contrary, the woman attending to Chen Fei was not only very attractive and easy on the eyes, but she also lacked the snobbish attitude of looking down on people.

To be honest, judging by Chen Fei’s cheap clothes, he didn’t look like someone who could afford a Mercedes-Benz.

”I’m not too familiar with cars. Maybe you could give me an introduction?” Chen Fei said with a smile.

The saleswoman didn’t seem irritated by his comment at all. ”Of course, sir. Please follow me,” she said cheerfully, guiding him through the showroom. ”As you can see, these are our brand’s flagship models, mostly sedans like the C-Class C200 and the E-Class E260 and E300. Of course, if you like SUVs, you might also want to look at this GLK260. We’re currently running a promotion on this model, with a discount of ten to twenty thousand Yuann.”

Clearly, the saleswoman was smart. She understood that since Chen Fei didn’t know much about cars, there was no point in giving him a long lecture about new technologies or engines. That would only backfire, as he wouldn’t understand a word and would naturally grow bored.

Chen Fei glanced at the cars she introduced but found them either too small or simply not to his liking. His gaze swept across the other vehicles on display when his eyes suddenly lit up. He pointed to a particularly large and imposing black SUV. ”What about this one?” he asked.

Evidently, he had found a car that suited his taste.

”That one…” The saleswoman followed his finger, paused for a moment, and then lowered her voice to a whisper. ”Sir, I’m afraid that car is a bit expensive. The cheapest model is over 1.2 million Yuann.”

The saleswoman was now having her doubts. The car Chen Fei had chosen was from the GL series, one of the high-end lines in the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup.

To be fair, this was a high-end luxury car, with prices starting at over a million. If he could really afford it, she would be absolutely delighted. She would get a sales commission, and even a small percentage would be a significant amount of money. But… this customer obviously didn’t know anything about cars. He was probably just looking.

But before she could even feel disappointed, Chen Fei’s enthusiastic voice rang in her ear, startling her. ”Oh, over 1.2 million Yuann? That must be for the base model, right? How much is the fully-loaded version? I’ll take one.”
