Medical Sage

”And this one,” Chen Fei continued, ”is Gu Feishuang, a newcomer from Huashu Media. If it’s convenient for you, Boss Liu, please take good care of her.”

To this day, he still wasn’t aware that Liu Cheng was the very same head of Huashu Media he was speaking of, which made his words sound a bit strange. However, when Gu Feishuang saw Chen Fei introduce her to their company’s top boss and even specifically ask him to look after her, her heart couldn’t help but race, her small face flushing red with excitement.

I truly never dreamed this could happen. In the past, even when I had a little fame, I had to look up to him from afar. Now, I’m actually meeting him face-to-face, and he’s being asked to take special care of me. It’s like a pie falling from the sky! She was too overwhelmed with excitement to contain herself.

When Zhang Wan, standing beside Zheng Zeyu, heard this, her rosy face instantly turned pale, and her hands began to tremble. Having been in the entertainment industry for so many years, she was keenly aware of what it meant to receive special treatment from Liu Cheng, the CEO of Huashu Media! Clasping the arm of the man beside her, her own hand trembled as panic seized her heart.

”Huashu Media, isn’t that... uh.” Boss Liu froze for a moment before it clicked. Isn’t Huashu Media one of my own companies?

”Boss Liu, my name is Gu Feishuang. I’m an actress the company signed last year,” Gu Feishuang said, cleverly defusing the awkwardness the moment she saw the look on Liu Cheng’s face.

As the CEO of the country’s largest film and media corporation, Liu Cheng was almost always swamped with work, so he naturally wouldn’t notice every new talent the company signed. His focus was on the company’s pillars—the handful of megastars.

After hearing Gu Feishuang’s explanation, realization dawned on him. He extended a hand to shake hers and deliberately offered her his business card. ”Since Doctor Chen has asked, I naturally wouldn’t dare be neglectful. Miss Gu, if you ever need any particular help at the company, just give me a call. Here is my business card.”

”Thank you, Boss Liu! Thank you so much!” Gu Feishuang accepted Liu Cheng’s business card, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would leap out of her chest, her pretty face blushing furiously. With his promise, who in the industry would dare to mess with me now?

Meanwhile, Zhang Wan watched as Gu Feishuang received her own boss’s personal business card, with the possibility of special treatment in the future. She was so consumed with jealousy that she wished she could take her place, her face a mask of envy.

”Many thanks, Boss Liu. You and your friend seem busy, so I won’t disturb you any longer. See you later,” Chen Fei said, raising his wine glass in a toast before leaving with Hua Zhinan and the others with a smile.

Once Chen Fei’s group was gone, Wang Lehui immediately sidled up to his uncle. ”Uncle, look at that brat, putting on such airs,” he whispered. ”He even dared to be disrespectful to you.”

”Shut your mouth!” Wang Kai barked, shooting him a cold look. He quickly turned back to Liu Cheng, hoping to clear up the misunderstanding. ”Boss Liu, could your friend have mistaken me for someone else? I don’t believe I know him, nor have I ever offended him.”

In my eyes, anyone treated with such gravity by the great CEO of Huashu Media must have a formidable status and background. I definitely don’t want to make such a powerful enemy over a misunderstanding. Besides, although his Jin Zun Jewelry was firmly holding the top spot in the Jiangnan Province’s jewelry industry, he had recently encountered many headaches. Plagued by both internal and external problems, he was desperate to find an external breakthrough, and Huashu Media’s upcoming big-budget film was his most promising investment target.

”Is that so? President Wang, I wouldn’t have thought a man as clever as you could be so confused. You haven’t offended Mr. Chen, but has someone by your side offended him? Otherwise, why would a man of Mr. Chen’s stature act this way?” Before Liu Cheng could finish, President Xiao, Xiaao Ming’s father, spoke up, his eyes filled with irrepressible mockery. He had clearly just learned a few things from his son.

At that moment, Liu Cheng spoke, his face impassive. ”President Wang, I’m sorry, but we’ll have to reconsider our potential cooperation. Doctor Chen is someone I respect greatly, and I must take his opinion into account.”

His words made both Wang Kai and Xiaao Ming’s father’s expressions change. They hadn’t expected Chen Fei to be so important to Liu Cheng that a mere misunderstanding would cause him to reconsider a partnership with his biggest investor. It truly caught them by surprise.

This was especially true for Xiaao Ming’s father. Although he had learned some things about Chen Fei from his son, that knowledge was limited to Northern Mountain City and Deputy Mayor Huang’s family. But now, even the esteemed CEO of Huashu Media held Chen Fei in such high regard that he was willing to abandon a multi-million-dollar investment for his sake. How could he not be utterly shocked?

”Boss Liu, you... weren’t our talks going well?” Wang Kai’s face was extremely grim, but he held his temper. He knew this film was a major project for Liu Cheng, one that many wealthy investors had their eyes on. They didn’t need his family’s investment; if he pulled out, another would quickly take his place without any issue. This was likely why Liu Cheng could afford to give Chen Fei so much face, willing to switch investors over a simple misunderstanding.

”The talks were going well,” Liu Cheng said calmly. ”But who told you to offend Doctor Chen?”

SLAP!

At those words, Wang Kai’s eyelid twitched. He spun around and viciously slapped Wang Lehui across the face, startling Zhang Wan who was standing nearby. ”You worthless dog, what exactly happened just now? Spill it, right now! If you don’t, I’ll break your damn legs!”

”Uncle, let me explain! It really wasn’t my fault. That guy was just too arrogant and showed me no respect, so I...” Wang Lehui argued, still looking defiant despite the sting of the slap.

SLAP!

Another slap cut him off before he could finish.

”What do you think you are? So what if he didn’t respect you? Let me tell you, don’t get full of yourself just because I’m usually nice to you. This world is full of powerful people who could crush you with one finger! Consider these two slaps a lesson. From now on, you will have nothing to do with Jin Zun Jewelry’s business. Get the hell back to the countryside and learn to farm!” Wang Kai scolded, his face cold as ice.

So that’s why he was so angry… angry enough to hold a grudge against me too. Dammit, if I’d run into an idiot like this, I’d feel the same way! How could I have been so blind? Why did I choose to groom such a useless piece of trash? What a mess.

Wang Lehui’s face changed instantly. Initially just terrified, he completely panicked upon hearing that he was to be cut off from Jin Zun Jewelry. Wang Kai had no children and had been grooming him as a successor. But now that his uncle wanted him out of the business, it meant he had been abandoned. He no longer had any chance of inheriting Wang Kai’s fortune. How could he not be frantic? ”Uncle, no, I was wrong, Uncle! You can’t treat me like this over an outsider! I’m your own nephew!”

”Get out,” Wang Kai said, his voice cold and merciless. ”From this moment on, I don’t want to see your worthless face again.”

He then turned back to Liu Cheng. ”Boss Liu, are you satisfied with how I’ve handled this?”

”President Wang is indeed decisive,” Liu Cheng said, giving him a deep look. ”But whether I’m satisfied isn’t what matters. What matters is that Doctor Chen is satisfied.”

”President Wang is truly a man of action. I, Xiao, must admit I’m impressed,” said Xiaao Ming’s father, also marveling at Wang Kai’s resolve.

Wang Kai let out an imperceptible sigh and couldn’t help but ask, ”Gentlemen, who exactly is that young man? Although I, Wang Kai, admit defeat this time, you have to at least let me know who I’ve offended, right?”

He was still wondering who that young man could be, to warrant such deferential treatment from the president of Huashu Media, and even that old fox from the Xiao Family treated him with such respect.

”Well,” Liu Cheng hesitated, not giving a direct answer. It seemed he wasn’t entirely sure of the young man’s background either, other than the fact that he had cured his father’s strange illness.

Seeing this, Wang Kai’s heart leaped, misinterpreting the hesitation, and his gaze shifted to Xiaao Ming’s father.

”Don’t look at me,” President Xiao said, glancing at Liu Cheng and shaking his head with a wry smile. ”Regarding Mr. Chen, it’s best you investigate on your own. It’s really not convenient for me to say more.”

Hearing this, Wang Kai’s heart clenched with alarm, and a fine layer of cold sweat broke out on his forehead. At this moment, he was finally certain that his earlier, decisive action had been the right one. Otherwise, he would have been in far greater trouble.
