Medical Sage

”A problem during cultivation?”

Chen Fei’s brow furrowed. He knew well that this kind of problem could range from minor to severe. If it was serious, it could easily be fatal.

However, he was still confident in his medical skills and said promptly, ”Elder Du, thank you for your trouble.”

”No trouble at all, no trouble. This old man is also curious to see how you Ancient Martial Artists treat ailments, and how it differs from what I know,” Elder Du said with a smile as the car slowly drove away from Phoenix Mountain.

Dusk fell. This time, Gao Zhinan did not accompany them. It was just Chen Fei and Elder Du in an ordinary sedan, speeding toward a famous villa district on the outskirts of Tongzhou City.

Green Land Home was one of the most prestigious villa districts in Tongzhou City. Although it couldn’t compare to Phoenix Mountain, it was still a gathering place for the city’s true social elite, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold.

According to Elder Du, Elder Dong had one son and one daughter. The older son was Dong Wencheng, who had entered politics and now held a high position as the Party Secretary of the provincial capital, with a limitless future ahead of him. As for the younger daughter, she had married the only son of a wealthy Hong Kong family and become a rich man’s wife. Naturally, money was no object. She had generously purchased a large villa in this prime location for her father, a very filial act.

As night fell, the Dong Family mansion was brilliantly lit, with a steady stream of cars arriving. Today was the seventieth birthday banquet for Secretary Dong’s father, making it the perfect opportunity for mingling and building connections. Naturally, everyone, whether they had a connection or not, wanted to attend and get in with the powerful Dong Family.

However, it was still early before the banquet began, and guests were arriving in a steady trickle. Of course, no one noticed that an ordinary-looking sedan had quietly driven into the Dong Family mansion.

”Uncle Du, you’ve finally arrived! Please, come in, come in. My father has been waiting anxiously for you. He would have scolded me if you hadn’t come today!” As soon as Elder Du and Chen Fei stepped out of the car, a middle-aged man with thick lips hurried to greet them. He looked to be about fifty, with an unremarkable appearance, but he was radiating enthusiasm.

”You rascal, what have I told you? Stop with all this ’elder’ talk! I still plan to live another twenty or thirty years!” Elder Du said with an air of casual annoyance.

”Uncle Du, what are you saying? Oh, and who is this young man?” The thick-lipped middle-aged man noticed Chen Fei, a look of surprise on his face.

”Come, Wencheng, let me introduce you two,” Elder Du said, beckoning him over. ”Doctor Chen, this is Elder Dong’s eldest son, Dong Wencheng. Wencheng, this is Doctor Chen, whose medical skills are quite exceptional. I specifically brought him here to take a look at Old Dong.”

”To treat my father?”

Dong Wencheng was stunned. He pointed at Chen Fei and looked at Elder Du in disbelief. ”Uncle Du, are you saying his medical skills are even better than yours? That’s impossible, isn’t it?”

In fact, he had personally called to invite Elder Du. Yet now, Elder Du was introducing a young man to him with such gravity, which left his head spinning.

”Shut up, don’t talk nonsense. Doctor Chen’s medical skills are certainly not inferior to mine!” Elder Du said at once when he heard Dong Wencheng’s words.

Just then, Chen Fei smiled and spoke. ”Secretary Dong, a pleasure to meet you. I am Chen Fei. Elder Du is a master of medicine, and I’m certainly not as skilled as he is. But since Elder Dong’s condition is from a cultivation issue, perhaps I can help.”

”What you mean is...” Dong Wencheng’s eyes flashed with a keen light.

”What I mean is this!” Chen Fei smiled, then suddenly moved. His finger shot out like a bolt of lightning and tapped the other man’s forehead, so fast that neither Elder Du nor Dong Wencheng had time to react. Of course, even if they had, they could neither have dodged nor stopped it.

”So, you’re also a martial artist. My apologies for the discourtesy earlier. Gentlemen, please, this way.” Seeing the finger that had suddenly appeared on his forehead, Dong Wencheng broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly clasped his hands in a gesture of respect.

His father was a true martial artist, an inheritor of Ancient Martial Arts, so he was privy to many things, especially concerning that circle. He himself was even a Third-Tier Expert.

But now, with a finger touching his forehead, he found he hadn’t even been able to react. It was clear the young man was an Ancient Martial Artist whose skill far surpassed his own.

”Alright, no need for such formalities. Let’s go see Old Dong. You said he can no longer walk?” Seeing that Chen Fei had subdued Dong Wencheng in an instant, Elder Du grinned. It was indeed easier to communicate with someone from the same circle, sparing him a lengthy explanation.

”Yes. My father tried to forcibly break through to the First-Class Master level by trying to convert his overt power into a subtle, internal one, but he failed. The power in his body went out of control, and he collapsed completely.” As he spoke of his father’s condition, Dong Wencheng’s eyes reddened slightly.

”Forcing his way to the First-Class Master level... Your father is certainly bold,” Chen Fei remarked, a little stunned.

From what he knew, such breakthroughs could only happen naturally when the time was right, after a long period of accumulation. Forcing it rarely ended well.

”Sigh. My father has practiced martial arts for a full sixty years, yet he’s never been able to break through his bottleneck and reach the level of a First-Class Master. This has always been a great burden on his heart, making him feel that he has let down his founding master,” Dong Wencheng said with a sigh, not a hint of anger in his voice.

It takes one to know one. For any Ancient Martial Artist, a Heart Demon was the ultimate taboo. But once it took root, it wasn’t easily dispelled.

”Ah, it’s a good thing I invited Doctor Chen today. Otherwise, I wouldn’t understand a word you’re saying and would probably only make things worse,” Elder Du said, shaking his head. Then he suddenly asked, ”Doctor Chen, are you confident about this situation?”

”It’s too early to speak of confidence. Let’s meet him and diagnose the situation first. As long as it’s not too severe, I believe it should be treatable,” Chen Fei said, choosing his words carefully.

In fact, if the situation was just as Dong Wencheng described, he was one hundred percent confident he could save him. After all, he was already at the Qi Refining Third Layer. In the eyes of ordinary people, many of his techniques were indistinguishable from magic.

”Really? Doctor Chen, my father is resting on the second floor. Please, follow me,” Dong Wencheng said excitedly.

He led Chen Fei and Elder Du up to the villa’s second floor and walked directly to the room at the far end of the hall. He pushed the door open and went inside. There, besides a woman in her forties, was an old man in a wheelchair, looking listless and frail.

”Old Du... Daoist Chen, is that you?” The old man greeted Elder Du, but when his peripheral vision caught Chen Fei standing nearby, he first froze, then exclaimed in surprise.

This old man in the wheelchair was none other than the practitioner of Eight Trigrams Fist who had sparred with Chen Fei on Northern Mountain—Elder Dong!

Having been close friends for decades, Elder Du understood Elder Dong’s state of mind and couldn’t help but say, ”I say, Old Dong, things haven’t reached that point. Why are you acting like this?”

”Ah, old friend, it’s not that I don’t trust your medical skills, but this isn’t an illness! It’s the aftereffect of a failed breakthrough attempt. Your usual treatments probably won’t help me,” Elder Dong said with a sigh.

”I can’t help you, but what about Doctor Chen? Don’t forget, I brought him here today to treat you,” Elder Du said helplessly.

”Daoist Chen?”

A glint of light flashed in Elder Dong’s murky eyes, but he quickly shook his head. ”Daoist Chen, for my condition, unless a First-Class Master is willing to damage their own foundation to cleanse my meridians and heal my injuries, I really don’t know of any other way to save me.”

Obviously, while he acknowledged Chen Fei’s talent and strength, the young man was, after all, only about as strong as he was, and so young. If he couldn’t save himself, how could Chen Fei possibly have a solution?

”Elder Dong, I don’t like it when people underestimate my medical skills.”

Chen Fei suddenly smiled. He walked up to Elder Dong, placed a hand on his wrist, and began to take his pulse. ”Whether it’s possible or not, let me take a look first. What if I do have a way?”

”Then... I’ll have to trouble you, Daoist Chen.” Elder Dong’s mouth hung open for a moment, but in the end, he said nothing more.

Seeing Chen Fei ’forcefully’ taking her father’s pulse, Dong Shuxian frowned slightly. But remembering what had happened earlier, she didn’t dare say anything this time. Everyone waited in silence as Chen Fei took Elder Dong’s pulse.

About five or six minutes later, Chen Fei retracted his hand, his expression unreadable.

Elder Du immediately couldn’t help but ask, ”Doctor Chen, can Old Dong’s condition be cured?”
