Medical Sage

Filling a basin with water was a simple matter, of course, but finding a small copper furnace proved somewhat troublesome. The hospital was certainly not prepared for such an odd request, so they had to buy one on the spot. Thus, a little under an hour later, a sweat-drenched Liu Cheng came in carrying a small basin of water, followed by a black-suited bodyguard holding a small copper furnace.

”Doctor Chen, do you think this will do?”

After everything that had happened, Liu Cheng didn’t dare to be anything but respectful to Chen Fei and asked reverently.

”Yes. Mr. Liu, could you please take off your shirt? Your condition is only on your arms and shoulders, right?” Chen Fei took the small Pill Furnace and nodded. He then pretended to take something out of his medicine box and place it inside. In truth, it was just for show, a maneuver to explain what was about to happen.

BOOM.

A strange noise erupted as a spark shot out from the small copper furnace. Strands of flame appeared before everyone, instantly raising the temperature of the furnace’s inner wall.

”Doctor Chen, what is this…” Dr. Xu Zhenxing couldn’t help but ask.

”Just a little trinket I play with when I’m idle. I didn’t expect it to come in handy today,” Chen Fei said with a smile, managing to bluff his way through thanks to his earlier act of taking something from his medicine box.

He then placed the basin of water on a side table next to Elder Liu Zhou. Looking at the elder, who had already removed his shirt, he said, ”Mr. Liu, if the pain becomes unbearable, let me know. If you can endure it, please try to do so.”

”Hahaha, Doctor Chen, rest assured! I still possess that much endurance,” Elder Liu Zhou declared heartily with a loud laugh.

”Alright. I’ll start with acupuncture anesthesia, and then I will make an incision on your left arm,” Chen Fei said while adeptly taking out a silver needle and inserting it into acupuncture points on Elder Liu Zhou’s body. After that, he took out a small knife and made a cut on his arm.

”Why is there no blood?” The cut Chen Fei made with the knife, astonishingly, didn’t bleed, leaving both Elder Liu Zhou and Liu Cheng completely stunned.

Only Dr. Xu Zhenxing looked thoroughly impressed. He said with admiration, ”Acupuncture to stop bleeding! It’s incredible that Doctor Chen is proficient in such an ancient and long-lost Acupuncture Technique. Truly humbling, humbling indeed!” He had spent the better part of his life in the field of Chinese medicine and was very knowledgeable. He recognized at a glance that the technique Chen Fei used was a secret method long thought to be lost.

”I’m about to begin. Mr. Liu, please bear with it.”

However, Chen Fei did not respond, as he was fully focused and ready to begin the treatment.

The next moment, he cradled the red-hot copper furnace. Wisps of smoke rose from it, its inner wall glowing as he slowly brought it closer to Elder Liu Zhou’s fish-scale-like diseased skin. As the scorching furnace drew nearer, Elder Liu Zhou’s brow involuntarily furrowed in pain.

Clearly, even though Chen Fei had used acupuncture to numb most of the pain, the touch of the red-hot furnace was still agonizing, and he cried out. But he remembered Chen Fei’s words—to endure if possible. After all, this was part of the treatment.

The entire clinic fell silent. Everyone held their breath in suspense, the only sounds being the crackling of the flames inside the furnace and Elder Liu Zhou’s occasional muffled groans of pain. Soon, dark red blood began to seep from the cut on his arm. The flow was slow, and the blood was thick.

”Can this really cure him? Uncle Xu, I really don’t understand what I’m seeing,” Liu Cheng, who had been watching Chen Fei’s actions, finally whispered.

”Although I don’t quite understand it either, Little Cheng, look at the Fire Poison rash on your father’s arm. Doesn’t it seem much better than before?” This time, Dr. Xu Zhenxing did not get angry. His cloudy eyes gleamed as he spoke calmly.

”...You’re right, Uncle Xu! The strange rash on his arm… it really does look much better than before!”

Liu Cheng was first taken aback by the words, but when he looked at his father’s left arm, he saw that the strange disease was visibly much better. He was completely astounded, overwhelmed with shock.

Could this inexplicable method really cure a disease?

”Mr. Liu, how do you feel?” Just then, Chen Fei set down the scorching copper furnace and smiled at the astonished Elder Liu Zhou.

”Much better, truly much better! I can clearly feel that my left arm is much stronger than my right now, and those strange rashes seem to have subsided. They don’t look as frightening as before. Doctor Chen, this is really miraculous! Hahaha!” Elder Liu Zhou laughed heartily, his face lit up with excitement.

After laughing, he turned to Chen Fei with genuine gratitude. ”Doctor Chen, there’s not much else to say. Thank you, I really mean it.”

”You’re too kind, Mr. Liu. The treatment isn’t over yet,” Chen Fei replied humbly with a smile.

”Doctor Chen, please forgive me for not recognizing your great ability earlier and for doubting your medical skills. I am truly sorry.” Seeing his father’s condition genuinely improve, Liu Cheng knew the young doctor before him was a true master with peerless medical skills. He hastily and awkwardly apologized, while internally overcome with profound admiration.

This was a strange illness that had stumped numerous Western medical experts and masters of Traditional Chinese medicine, yet it was so easily resolved in this young man’s hands. How could that not be astonishing?

After his sincere apology, he couldn’t resist glancing at the basin of water. It would have been better if he hadn’t looked. What should have been a basin of crystal-clear water was now murky, as if dyed with red ink—a thick, dark-red sludge.

”This… this… what is this…” He trembled, an inexplicable chill running down his spine.

”That is the Fire Poison that has accumulated in your father’s body over the years. Don’t touch it. Have it flushed down the toilet later,” Chen Fei explained.

Hearing this, Liu Cheng immediately ordered a bodyguard to carefully dispose of the water. Another bodyguard then brought back a basin filled with fresh Qingshui.

”Doctor Chen, what about my other arm? Will you treat it now?” Elder Liu Zhou couldn’t help but ask, his face full of anticipation. Although his left arm seemed to be treated, he still had another one. Surely it would be taken care of as well.

”Let’s rest for a moment,” Chen Fei replied.

Only then did everyone notice that his complexion had turned somewhat pale and his voice sounded weaker.

”What are you standing around for, you rascal? Go and get Doctor Chen a glass of water!” Elder Liu Zhou, who had traveled extensively over the years, was a man of some insight. He vaguely guessed that Chen Fei’s weakness was a result of treating him, and he was immediately filled with immense gratitude and a sense of guilt.

Without waiting for his son to act, Elder Liu Zhou personally poured a glass of water for Chen Fei and handed it to him. ”Thank you so much for working so hard to treat me, Doctor Chen. Here, have some water.”

”Mr. Liu, you are too kind.”

Chen Fei smiled modestly, took the glass, and sipped the water lightly. He then sat back down in his chair and closed his eyes to rest.

Seeing this, Mr. Liu gestured to his son and his old classmate, Xu Zhenxing. They all tiptoed out of the clinic, leaving Chen Fei to rest alone without being disturbed.

Once they were in the corridor, Elder Liu Zhou spoke with a sigh of admiration, ”Old Xu, who would have thought your hospital was hiding a true master, a Divine Doctor.”

”Now you believe me?” Xu Zhenxing said, tilting his head with a hint of annoyance.

”Uncle Xu, I was wrong earlier. I shouldn’t have doubted you or Doctor Chen. My apologies, I’m truly sorry,” Liu Cheng immediately said, his face flush with embarrassment as Xu Zhenxing brought up the past again.

It was clear that although his intentions had been good—he dared not treat his father’s illness as a joke—he had also nearly made a terrible mistake out of good intentions by turning away a Divine Doctor. It was a blunder he had to take responsibility for.

”I’m not talking about that,” Elder Liu Zhou said, shaking his head gravely. ”If I’m not mistaken, the method Doctor Chen used to treat me is probably related to… those people.”

”Those people? Old Xu, you mean…?” Xu Zhenxing froze, a strange expression on his face.

”Yes, exactly. Ancient Martial Artists!” Elder Liu Zhou spoke emphatically, a hint of reminiscence in his eyes. ”You should remember, over a decade ago, I had a serious illness and nearly died. In the end, it was someone from the circle of Ancient Martial Artists who cured me. When he treated me, it felt just like now, as if some kind of current was moving inside me.”

”Then this Doctor Chen…” Liu Cheng was also taken aback. As the CEO of a company worth nearly four billion yuan, he knew exactly what Ancient Martial Artists represented. Many of them were people he could not afford to offend, possessing terrifying power.

”If I’m not mistaken, Doctor Chen is one of them. Little Cheng, you were far too reckless earlier. You’re lucky he has a good temper and didn’t hold it against you. If it had been someone with a short fuse, you can imagine how much trouble you’d be in!” Elder Liu Zhou said sternly.

”This… Uncle Xu, Dad, what should I do now?” The thought of those fearsome Ancient Martial Artists made Liu Cheng’s blood run cold, despite his status. His forehead broke out in a cold sweat. He had personally heard about a tycoon with wealth comparable to his own who had offended a major figure from the Ancient Martial Artist circle over a misunderstanding. In a single night, his family was ruined and his vast corporate empire crumbled. The mere thought was horrifying.

”Calm down,” Xu Zhenxing said. ”Even if Doctor Chen is from that circle, he doesn’t seem petty. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have exhausted himself treating Elder Liu. Just remember to apologize properly to him later and present him with the fee. That should be enough.”
