High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2281: Chapter 502: Information Behind the List

Crackle!

Accompanied by a faint sound as if a mosquito were buzzing.

An extremely thin lightning bolt, like a spark, fell from thin air, striking the young public student’s head, twisting his once-energetic hair into a tangled mess, and a strange burnt fragrance filled the air.

This bolt shattered the awful scene in Zheng Qing’s mind into pieces.

The wizard’s laughter came to an abrupt halt.

Stopping alongside him were Xin Fat Man, who was speaking loudly, and Doctor Xiao, who was listening earnestly. Both turned their heads in unison to look at the young public student, their eyes tinged with tension and suspicion.

The three exchanged glances.

In this unsettling silence, Zhang Ji Xin’s monotone recitation was particularly clear: ”... ’Enjoy Your Funeral,’ by George Mic, uses a meticulous touch to describe various aspects of life from the grave of the Blood Race, a classic work of the classical Blood Race metaphysics...”

Zheng Qing’s somewhat pale face scrunched up as he struggled to recall the seemingly familiar scene.

After a while, he rubbed his cheek, trying hard to clear the chaotic thoughts from his mind, while cautiously glancing up at the ceiling, fearing that the petty legendary figure might feel something and send down another bolt of lightning.

Then, he dryly spoke again.

”Must the High Priestess be a Legendary Wizard?” he attempted to change the topic.

The Fat Wizard didn’t immediately respond, cautiously scrutinizing the burnt, crooked hair on Zheng Qing’s head.

”Probably.”

He scratched his chin, his gaze flickering, skirting around some sensitive words: ”Based on the lists published annually by ’Magic Wand,’ it indeed seems that way... almost every vice principal is a Legendary Wizard, so Professor Emma’s situation is quite special... This time, she’s ranked fourth in the Great Arcana, titled ’Queen.’

The lightning didn’t reappear, giving the Fat Wizard much courage, his tone gradually returning to normal, and his speech speed increasing: ”Besides, this time ’Magic Wand’s list also reveals another appointment from the school... The holder of the ’Emperor’ title is our great, wise, and kind Professor Yao. Beneath the list, Professor Yao has gained a new title, Dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute...

The First University has four institutes: the comprehensive Institute of Applied Magic and the specialized ’Divination Institute,’ ’Astronomy Institute,’ and ’Magic Philosophy Institute.’

The dean of the Institute of Applied Magic holds the codename ’Hermit’ in the Great Arcana, and as the title suggests, even in the First University, few people know his true identity.

Compared to the Institute of Applied Magic, which has numerous publicly established laboratories, the other three institutes appear more low-key. Yet, everyone is familiar with the deans of these three institutes — the dean of the Divination Institute is the Great Diviner, Professor Yi. The dean of the Astronomy Institute is the current vice principal, Professor Emma, and the information about the former dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute has been erased. Presently, everyone only knows they were the ’Sun’ on the previous version of the Great Arcana list.

Xin Fat Man slightly lowered his voice, wearing an expression of conspiracy: ”There are rumors from the editorial department saying that the previous dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute went into a ’relevant department,’ so the school has ’encrypted’ information about him... To compensate for not becoming a vice principal, the school assigned the ’Magic Philosophy Institute’ to Professor Yao...

”So, now he’s both the dean of Jiuyou Academy and the dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute, and he’s also overseeing a large-scale magic experiment in the Black Prison?” Zheng Qing summed up, a hint of confusion on his face: ”Why do I always feel that he was already the dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute...

”Legendary Rank’s interference effects on reality.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses: ”Legendary Wizards can already touch the ’mist’ above the river of time, and any action they take now reverberates upstream through the river...

”Bingo!”

The Fat Wizard snapped his fingers with a sound like a fart, interrupting Doctor Xiao’s endless analysis, forcibly steering the topic back to his familiar domain: ”Speaking of the Black Prison, the previous holder of the ’Tower’ title in ’Magic Wand’ was the Black Prison Chief. But for reasons known to all, the Black Prison Chief didn’t enter the Great Arcana this time, and the new holder of the ’Tower’ title is our Magic Language Professor, Mr. Monteria, allegedly, his laboratory has made some astonishing achievements.

Zheng Qing squinted his eyes slightly.

In Tarot Cards, the Tower isn’t a good card. As the representative of Mars, the Tower gives the most intuitive impression of destruction, a sky-high tower struck by lightning, two wizards tumbling down — the previous holder of the ’Tower’ title, the Black Prison Chief, had already proven this with his miserable experience.

”Wait,” Xiao Xiao suddenly spoke up, interrupting the young public student’s wandering thoughts: ”You just said Old Yao also assumed the dean position of the Magic Philosophy Institute, and Old Yao is now the ’Emperor’?”

”Yes.”

”But we all know the previous dean of the Magic Philosophy Institute was the ’Sun’... so, who’s the ’Sun’ this time?”

The Fat Wizard displayed a satisfied smile, seemingly pleased that someone finally noticed this detail: ”You absolutely wouldn’t imagine... the new ’Sun’ is the Rat Immortal, yes, Zhu Si’s old man, the one who supposedly achieved Legendary Rank but nobody knows where he is!”

”The Rat Immortal joined the school?” Zheng Qing widened his eyes in surprise, instantly forgetting the ripple of thoughts Professor Monteria had stirred in his mind: ”I remember he stood with the Dark Council on the Black Prison Battlefield!”

”Do you remember what the Rat Immortal did last on the battlefield?” Xiao Xiao glanced at him.

”... It seemed like a really powerful spell.” Zheng Qing’s eyes suddenly became unfocused: ”The people of the Dark Council said it was a Forbidden Curse, but I think if it were truly a Forbidden Curse, the power wouldn’t have been so small.”

”I think so too.” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, his gaze returning from a certain restless person, simply summarizing: ”The Rat Immortal hasn’t appeared since reaching the Legendary Rank, but based on the changes on the Ears Brother, we have no reason to believe his advancement failed, so...

Crackle!

Another extremely thin lightning bolt appeared from thin air, striking the notebook in front of the Diviner, turning the review materials he painstakingly compiled into a scorched mess.

The doctor, who had been speaking fluently, was suddenly cut off like a choked chicken.

After a while.

He finally laughed dryly, glancing at his two confused companions, shrugging his shoulders: ”... Sometimes, a diviner speaking recklessly can shorten one’s lifespan.”
