High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2272: Chapter 493: Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining

”You’re really brave, truly.”

”I never expected you’d so openly give a gift to the monitor... This courage far exceeds my expectations of you. I admit I was wrong... Have you chosen your epitaph yet?”

”Before choosing an epitaph, you need to give Su Councilor an explanation.”

”Tomorrow, by the latest tomorrow, this matter will definitely be on those gossip rags outside the school! This kind of news can sell for at least four or five gold beans! If you find the right outlet, the price could be even higher!”

”Before explaining to Greenhill Mansion, I think he should find a way to deal with the anger of Su Councilor’s supporters first... To know, this afternoon those white-robed folks from Alpha were also in class with us... Didn’t you see Andrew Taylor’s mouth almost reach his ears?”

”Was he laughing?”

”The conflict between Alpha’s conservatives and reformers is increasingly intensifying, only external enemies can temporarily unite the white-robed ones. This unexpected event is very important for Sepulano right now. Unfortunately, Mr. Zha is about to become Alpha’s adhesive.”

In dormitory 403, Zheng Qing’s roommates were loudly discussing the scene from the afternoon practice class.

The young cost student sat dazed at the desk, his eyes occasionally drifting over the bed, withdrawing immediately as if struck by lightning. He couldn’t imagine what kind of monster he might encounter in his dreams after an evening of fermenting that afternoon scene.

Couldn’t just sit and wait to die.

After a simple calculation, the warlock let out a breath softly, his gaze gradually firming up.

”Fatty!”

He first looked at Xin, asking very sincerely, ”You said that piece of news could sell for at least four or five gold beans... Does it mean you can find the ’right’ outlet?”

The fat wizard nodded in confusion: ”At least I count as a seasoned media person.”

Snap.

Zheng Qing snapped his fingers, very decisively pointing at the fat wizard: ”Alright, I authorize you to sell this news, we split the profits fifty-fifty... If you can make the news slightly ’reasonable’, like saying ’it’s normal for classmates to give gifts’ or add some details, like ’Zheng Qing also has a fling with that Little Red Riding Hood’, then the money from selling the news is all yours.”

Xin Fat Man raised his eyebrows high.

After a while, he gave the young cost student a thumbs up: ”After being sick for a long time, you truly understand public opinion... How about adding a few mare or ghost girlfriends for you?”

Without another word, Zheng Qing flicked out two copper coins to the fat wizard.

The fat wizard accepted with a broad smile, not even considering it too little.

”Wait, Mr. Zha, when did you get a girlfriend, Little Red Riding Hood?” Dylan, whose head was resting on the edge of the coffin, hadn’t caught on, his eyes wide open.

Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, summarizing for Mister Blood Werewolf’s confusion: ”Public opinion is easily disturbed, and so is public perception... When a warlock who usually maintains a ’respectable’ image in public opinion, and holds titles like the Merlin Medal and cost student, without any background, suddenly gets embroiled in a pile of unsourced tabloid news, public attention easily shifts from the tabloid content to why such things would happen.”

”Moreover, the public easily summarizes relevant reasons for the ’victim’.”

The fat wizard was already lying on the desk writing a letter, adding without raising his head: ”For instance, some bigwigs jealous of Mr. Zha’s relationship with Su Councilor spreading rumors, or witches wanting to undermine Su Councilor’s foundations... etc... Thus is the truth buried under numerous noise pollutions.”

In fact, Zheng Qing had deeper considerations for how to handle this unexpected situation—his relationship with Jiang Yu could never remain hidden from others forever, so instead of constantly deceiving others, it’s better to preemptively explode.

As long as the first round of rumors loses the public’s trust, then even if similar news explodes again later, it will greatly weaken the damage to himself and Jiang Yu.

Dylan from Starry Sky Academy was evidently not used to such convolutions.

He turned to look at Zheng Qing, wanting to ask something, only to be surprised to find the young cost student changing into robes, looking ready to go out.

Before he could open his mouth, Zheng Qing pointed to the stack of boxes piled in the corner of the room—that was the batch of Christmas gifts he hadn’t had time to unwrap by noon—and said, ”You can help unwrap those gifts while I’m not around... Be sure to take precautions.”

As he spoke, he slapped two dozen anti-evil charms onto the desk.

”What about you?”

Mister Blood Werewolf looked at the pocket watch: ”It’s almost six o’clock, at this hour, the library doesn’t have any seats left... Or do you already have the courage to go to the study room now?”

”I’m going to deliver Christmas gifts to Poseidon.” The young cost student replied sullenly, hiding most of his face within the hood, then turned to open the door and head out.

Outside, the cold was biting.

Though it was mid-winter, by dusk the sky was still slightly bright, due to the snow, the sun was not seen all day, the sky covered in thick clouds. Even so, Zheng Qing still spotted a conspicuous glow at the edge of the clouds.

Each cloud had a silver lining.

The warlock’s mind flashed the phrase—every cloud has a silver lining, even in the darkness, there’s a glimmer of light—this wasn’t his blind optimism, the results of previous calculations and divination also gave him immense confidence.

Crunch, crunch.

Shoes stepped on snow, emitting cold sounds, akin to the light between heaven and earth, pale white with a touch of chill. The young cost student lowered his head, hanging the Armor Horse Charm, swiftly headed to the Greenhill Mansion.

Once past the garden, Poseidon was seen holding a thick reference book, lying at the window doing homework, the outside light shining through the colored glass, seemingly glazing it, each tuft of its fur alluringly coated.

From afar, like a polished, translucent gemstone.

When Zheng Qing pushed the door open, the Little Fox remained lying in front of the book, its ear slightly twitching, yet it didn’t even glance at him. This greatly amazed the warlock, and upon closer look, he found this little creature’s nose was wedged in the book’s gap, eyes squinted, using the reading opportunity to doze off.

He pinched Poseidon’s ear, and knowing the warlock was harmless, the Little Fox casually shook its ear to flick off those few annoying fingers, continuing to comfortably enjoy the pleasures of reading.

”Where’s your miss?”

Zheng Qing glanced back at Su Ya, supervising Poseidon’s reading, couldn’t help but chuckle silently—this little fox was half dazed too, its fluffy big tail drooped from the skirt unnoticed, if seen by Su Man, the head maid, she’d be punished to scrub the floor.

”Miss... miss?”

The groggy Fox Maid suddenly woke up, panicky searching left and right, simultaneously shouting, ”Miss, I wasn’t sleeping! Just zoned out a bit ago!”

She mistakenly thought Su Shijun had arrived.
