Chapter 2260: Chapter 481: Three Witches, Three Dances, and Three Conversations (Extra)

The plump fireflies clung to the flower branches drooping in the night, their bellies pulsating, casting silver-white beams that flickered and interlaced with the cold moonlight outside the dance floor, together creating the mystique of the Clans of the Moon.

Furthermore, there were transparent bubbles encasing bright candlelight, floating low in groups, while sprites with magic wands draped in light gauze, laughed as they chased the bubbles, sprinkling colorful glows like rainbows, embellishing the ball with magnificence.

Yet, neither the blossoms scattered across the heavens nor the rainbows glistening in night could rival the striking figures in the dance floor.

Without a doubt, the duet dance of Su Shijun and Jiang Yu was the centerpiece of the ball now; to apply an ancient formula, the charm of the Moonlit Ball accounts for one talent, and these two witches alone claimed eight-tenths of it.

The remaining two-tenths were shared between tonight’s moonlight and the splendid ball atmosphere.

Zheng Qing had turned from initial trepidation to relief—thanks to the witches’ dance capturing the majority of attention, he and Korma became marginal, no longer the focal point of the ball.

This way, the risk of getting hit should sharply lessen, the boy mused inwardly.

”Who do you plan to choose?”

Having just spun around with the music, Korma suddenly threw out this question, interrupting the young cost student’s reverie. Noticing Zheng Qing’s alarmed expression, the Northern District Great Wise Person’s mouth curled slightly: ”Relax, I have a measure... This question is only for you and me to hear, as a Big Wizard, I have that confidence.”

The young cost student cautiously glanced not far away.

The witch in the red gown and the witch in the blue gown were still dancing gracefully in the center of the dance floor, seemingly oblivious to the small conversation here.

This somewhat eased his mind.

”I don’t know.”

The warlock answered honestly—this wasn’t perfunctory, for if judged by personality, age, and interests, he’d have the best rapport with Jiang Yu; however, warlocks are also visual creatures, and Su Shijun is unreasonably beautiful. More importantly, this Upper House Member also has Poseidon.

The existence of Poseidon was the greatest dilemma.

”Don’t know?” The witch raised an eyebrow: ”Not knowing is the worst answer. Even the worst choice is better than no choice. Only the dead have no choices.”

”I’d rather die.” Zheng Qing muttered.

Compared to making an immediate choice, dying seemed easier. After all, he had died once before, with some experience. But as for choosing, he had no experience.

”Such greed.”

The Northern District Grand-Wizard keenly pointed out the young cost student’s biggest problem: ”A man’s biggest issue is wanting it all... An old saying among Alpha elite students goes, Study, Sleep, Social; you can only choose two. Even abusing Energy Potion, it’s hard to balance these three S’s. Some give up studying, choosing sleep and social, but more would give up sleep. In sum, you must give up something to keep life’s balance.”

”That sounds a bit like the Mendel’s Paradox.” Zheng Qing immediately thought of a similar concept.

Korma glanced at him in surprise: ”A very apt comparison. A wizard can’t simultaneously achieve species transformation freedom, magic power stability, and will independence. Aspiring to be an excellent Transformation Master, one must learn to relinquish.”

”Not necessarily.” The young cost student muttered quietly, suddenly realizing Korma’s logic rather explained another possibility to him.

He shook his head vigorously, trying to shake the unrealistic possibility out of his head.

Then, he realized he had to seize control of the conversation, or he’d be perpetually led around by this young Big Wizard.

”The lipstick color you’re wearing today is nice,” he abruptly interrupted the witch’s rhythm with an unexpected compliment: ”The pale pearl color looks like fine snowflakes swirling in the brilliant sunshine...”

”Thank you.”

The Northern District Great Sage showed modesty typical of a witch hearing such a compliment: ”It’s the latest from Shepherdess this month, if you’re thinking of giving...”

”Why did you ask me to dance?” Seeing the witch about to seize control again, the boy hastily interrupted her, throwing out another question he’d prepared.

Korma seemed caught off guard by this question, gently blinking——research shows blinking acts as punctuation for thought processes, refreshing the mind for subsequent actions or thoughts when a thought ends in the mind.

”Why?” She repeated the warlock’s question, clearly still organizing her thoughts.

”Why.”

Zheng Qing echoed the word, pressing a step forward with her dance step, wrapping his arm around the witch’s waist, watching her lean back, her silver-white hair cascading like a waterfall, revealing a snow-white neck.

The ball’s music surged past the climax, flowing back into a gentle rhythm. Korma stood up, rotated lightly with the boy’s dance step, the tension in her eyes gradually dissipated, she tilted her head and gave Zheng Qing a slight smile, seemingly having made a decision: ”Because you are very much like the Northern District Wizard.”

Zheng Qing had considered many possibilities.

Perhaps she was bored to static from tranquility; perhaps she wanted to reach some accord with Greenhill Mansion using him as a go-between; or perhaps the dance, like the promise during the student council interview, was just an occasional quirk of hers, and so on.

But none aligned with the answer Korma gave.

Perhaps noticing the warlock’s confusion.

The witch chuckled lightly, explaining in a soft voice: ”You resemble a brilliant meteor, the Northern District Wizard a raging wildfire. I say you’re alike because the brighter the glow you emit now, the quicker you burn to ash. I don’t want the Northern District Wizard to become ash. Do you know about the ’Please Give Me a Frog’ movement? Someone is eagerly pouring oil on the burning wildfire.”

”So, I want the entire Alliance to see me dancing with you.”

”I want the Moon Council to know that the Northern District Wizard has other choices.”

”I also want to visit your mentor, the owner of San You Bookstore... I’ve gone alone many times, and the store has always been empty.”

Zheng Qing felt like a fish caught in the air, helplessly flapping his fins, his mouth opening and closing. After a long pause, he hoarsely asked back: ”What exactly do you know?”

Korma blinked again, her face displaying a mischievous smile: ”Not much, but divination tells me you are the Northern District Wizard’s best choice. So, learn from me, be decisive when making choices, don’t hesitate.”

Zheng Qing detested Divination Magic.
