Chapter 2268: Chapter 489: When We Grow Up

Poseidon really did send a gift.

After rummaging through the gifts from those strangers for a while, Zheng Qing finally spotted a suspected insignia of Greenhill Mansion on a palm-sized square box—this insignia was probably drawn by the Little Fox itself. The nine swirling fox tails were drawn almost like an octopus, extremely abstract, with a diamond-shaped plum blossom paw print pressed in the center of the insignia.

If not for the familiar paw print, Zheng Qing would certainly not have easily opened this gift box.

The gift inside the box was a green apple.

The young public student weighed the apple carefully, sniffed it cautiously for a long time, and then had the Doctor and Xin take a look before finally confirming that it was just an ordinary apple, with no magical or miraculous effects.

”An apple is nice too.” Zheng Qing held the apple, showing an aunt-like smile of an old father: ”An apple a day keeps the doctor away...”

Snap!

Xiao Xiao snapped his fingers.

”Oh, I remember now,” the Absolution’s Diviner flipped through his black notebook with a sudden realization in his tone: ”Do you remember the day of the Lower Yuan Festival when Poseidon stayed in our dorm for a day?”

”What about it?”

”On that day, Fatty asked me if our academy had any Christmas traditions, and I replied, ’We exchange apples’... Poseidon probably noted down our conversation then.”

With Xiao Xiao’s reminder, Zheng Qing vaguely remembered such a conversation did occur. But he also recalled that when Su Ya brought Poseidon over that day, she had specifically instructed him - he distinctly remembered that apples held quite a prominent place on the Greenhill Mansion’s meal list.

The young public student was very suspicious that this apple was given to him because the Little Fox didn’t want to eat it.

But this kind of suspicion wasn’t fitting to mention in the current atmosphere.

”What a good kid.”

Xin Fat Man wiped the corner of his eye with a sleeve, making a moved expression, then looked at Zheng Qing: ”The child is so well-behaved, you can’t just return an apple for a gift. What do you intend to give as a return gift?”

A return gift?

Upon hearing this word, Zheng Qing immediately came to his senses; he still had two Moonlight Boxes waiting to be ’perfected’! He exclaimed, pulled out his pocket watch, and checked the time.

It was already past 1 p.m.

Less than fifty minutes before class.

”Oh no, oh no.”

The young public student hurriedly pulled out two treasure boxes and placed them on the desk, carefully took out a strand of hair, but his eyes were drawn to the Fox Tail Brush nearby—honestly, the situation didn’t seem too bad, as during this delay, he had opened Su Shijun’s gift and unexpectedly discovered that both Moonlight Boxes could be fully modulated.

”Is this what you’re preparing as a return gift?”

The Fat Wizard came over with great interest, carefully scrutinizing the ornamentation on the box, eyebrows raised so high: ”Huck Brothers’ Watch Shop? Never heard of giving clocks as gifts for the holidays... What’s on your mind!”

”Huck Brothers do more than make watches.” Xiao Xiao answered Fatty’s doubts for Zheng Qing.

So Zheng Qing didn’t argue further, quietly opened the wooden box, displaying the two crystals resembling bubbles to his companions. Unlike the shop’s dim lighting, the desk in dorm room 403 was next to the window, and under the bright midday light, the two crystal balls emitted an enchanting hue.

Unlike under the moonlight, under the sunlight, the witch in the Moonlight Box wasn’t playing around in gardens; instead, she sat quietly between pavilions and towers, playing musical instruments and painting, with melodious music faintly heard flowing around through the transparent crystal cover.

”Draw the curtains!”

Zheng Qing instructed while rolling up his sleeves, as the light in the house was too strong, causing the witch to hide among those exquisite buildings, which was detrimental to his next step of essence infusion.

Snap!

Clatter!

Xiao Xiao snapped his fingers again, and the curtains seemed to be pulled sharply by an invisible giant hand, instantly darkening the dormitory. The Fat Cat, originally toying with a lunar instrument, suddenly yawned, stretched lazily, and weakly jumped into the blanket of the Fat Man.

The strand of hair Zheng Qing held silently turned into ashes and disappeared, transforming into a wisp of aura swirling around the Warlock’s fingers, and then, following the Huck Brothers’ guidance, he gradually infused that wisp of aura into the crystal ball as if performing crystal ball divination.

Meanwhile, he was trying hard to visualize Jiang Yu’s appearance, outfit, and makeup; her every move, smile, and frown; her manner of speaking, her expression when sulking.

Inexplicably, from time to time, a fleeting image of the Little White Cat on the Cat Fruit Tree flashed in the Warlock’s mind—a white cat with quite a temper that would knock the Black Cat off the tree at any moment.

”It’s changing, it’s changing!” came the exaggerated voice of Xin Fat Man nearby.

Zheng Qing opened his eyes.

I saw the mist on the witch’s face inside the crystal cover gradually dissipating, revealing a dignified and beautiful face, and the two mists at her feet also rolled into two small cats, one black and one white, playing and frolicking joyfully.

Everything inside the Moonlight Box followed the Huck Brothers’ description.

The only problem was that the witch’s appearance wasn’t quite as Zheng Qing had envisioned. Although there was a slight resemblance to Jiang Yu in the eyebrows, the young public student was quite certain she was not her.

”Who is she?”

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, carefully examining the witch inside the crystal cover, looking puzzled: ”Who are you planning to give this unfamiliar witch to, Su Councilor or Jiang class leader?”

Zheng Qing’s face turned ashen, realizing that the hair Li Meng gave him had gone awry.

Just then.

The piece of stationery he had discarded earlier suddenly caught fire, and in moments turned into a plume of ash. Then, a wisp of eerie wind swept through, sketching a small, ash-grey humanoid figure, crossing its arms and laughing shrilly:

”Fool! Scumbag! Shameless rascal!”

”How could I possibly give you my cousin’s hair!”

”Only God knows what wicked thoughts you harbor for my cousin! No matter what villainy you plan, come at me if you can get past me! Wahahahaha!”

Zheng Qing rolled his eyes in annoyance, slapping the short figure away.

There goes thirty jade coins down the drain.

Fortunately, as long as the gift hasn’t been given out, there’s still room to correct the mistake.

”Hmm... do you guys think this person kind of resembles Li Meng?” Xin Fat Man squinted, examining the witch inside the crystal cover with some uncertainty: ”... I don’t mean the little guy who just appeared, I mean Li Meng when she grows up.”

Having once coveted the Little Witch, the Fat Wizard’s eyes were much more accurate than his two companions.

Zheng Qing heaved a heavy sigh.

It’s hard to determine whether having the hair belong to Li Meng or some other unfamiliar witch would be worse. The one thing he was quite sure of was that his other thirty jade coins shouldn’t be wasted.

While pondering, he weighed the beautiful Fox Tail Brush.
