High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2252: Chapter 473: Silent Night

The main venue of the moonlit ball is set on a sprawling meadow.

The entrance is through the back door of the Baroque-style building, which serves as the resting place for the ball; Out the door to the left, stands a tall Christmas tree, on which still sit many singing little wizards; On the other side is a high platform, constructed with Han Baiyu stone, wide at the base and narrow at the top, the top layer spans a hundred meters, with only an exaggeratedly large golden high-back chair positioned inside.

The Fox Witch led Zheng Qing, walking in a shadow, and soon, they climbed up the steps behind the high platform to the small open space at the top. Along the way, the young cost student counted in his mind, this high platform, resembling an Aztec Pyramid, has seven layers, with elegant short phrases in Magic Script carved between the tiers, seemingly poems left by ancient wizards.

”You may wait on the moon platform for a while.”

The Fox Witch bowed slightly, finally casting a curious glance at Zheng Qing, and silently retreated from the high platform.

The warlock tightened his robe against him, striving to maintain a ’noble’ posture in the night wind, even though he shivered with cold, he dared not show a shrunken or hunched form.

Otherwise, it would become a scandal spread across the entire wizard world afterward.

Zheng Qing leaned on his cane, tracing the tip, and looked up at the night sky.

The moon is exceptionally large tonight.

Or rather, in this dance venue, the moon seems exceptionally large—it’s as tall as a person, with a clear dark shadow on its silver-white disc, like a baby curled up in its mother’s belly.

Around the moon, the sky is a pale purple, further out, it’s pitch black. Between the purple and black, scattered starlight, resembling broken diamonds flung on a black curtain, emits a captivating brilliance.

The moon platform Zheng Qing stood on is probably the highest point of the entire ball, with copper dragon, phoenix, turtle, and unicorn standing at each corner, each carrying treasures like basins, plates, pots, bowls, reaching upward, probably meant to collect dew.

The front of the moon platform is a jade-colored stair stone, winding and extending downward into the dance pool.

The dance pool is located at the center of the main venue, raised a foot above the meadow, paved entirely with cyan jade stone, capable of accommodating hundreds of people dancing simultaneously within. Around the dance pool are forty-nine exquisitely carved stone columns, enshrined with various divine birds and spiritual beasts, occasionally one or two can be seen climbing to the top of the columns, gazing at the moon and yelling.

At this moment, the young male and female wizards attending this ball are still on the meadow outside the dance pool, holding cups, linking arms, or strolling, gathered in groups of threes and twos, walking together, laughing together.

Zheng Qing stood at the edge of the moon platform, wearing a reserved smile, his gaze sweeping over every corner of the meadow, seeing many familiar figures—like Lin Yan from the Fringe Hunting Team, Andrew Taylor from the Ouroboros Hunting Team, the earliest one he hit, Arthur Ness, classmates from Astronomy Class 08-1 Matthew Karen and Matthew’s cousin Sir Friedman, etc.

Until his gaze drifted to the edge of the meadow, seeing a long red dress.

The smile on the young cost student’s face suddenly froze.

He blinked firmly.

Suddenly took a small breath of cold air.

The wind was bone-chilling, but it was not as cold as his heart, which felt like an ice cellar at the moment.

He squeezed the cane handle hard, the solid silver head hurting his palm. No, he wouldn’t be mistaken, it was Jiang Yu. Though the distance was slightly far, he was adamant he wouldn’t mistake it.

Jiang Yu, in a bright red dress, stood serenely on the edge of the meadow, seemingly looking towards the direction of the moon platform at this moment.

The young cost student instinctively shrank back, but then gritted his teeth, sticking his head out again—although the bright red clashed with the background colors of the whole ball, many enthusiastic young warlocks still surrounded her, and he needed to remember which little bastards were offering her flattery.

At this moment.

The sky abruptly changed.

”The moon!”

An exclamation came from afar.

The young wizards on the meadow quickly looked up towards the sky.

Only to see the originally silver-white moon somehow coated with a layer of light green color, perhaps aware of the gathered gazes below, the light green suddenly began to spin, casting a layer upon layer of green radiance like clouds or flowing mists in all directions, resembling the sleeves of a dancer on stage, or like aurora in the permanence of night, appearing misty yet with clear boundaries against the deep background.

The pitch-black night sky was torn apart by this green radiance, faintly revealing some images more splendid than the small starlights beyond this piece of meadow, blooming with their brilliance far away.

And the young wizards could clearly see the endless rolling powerful magic at the ’tearing’ edge.

The melody played by the strings at the ball suddenly changed from joyful and lively to magnificent and elegant—Zheng Qing could hardly imagine that he would one day be able to hear ’magnificence’ and ’elegance’, such complex concepts, from music.

Suddenly.

A strand of green silk fell from the center of the moon.

From high to low, piercing the night; from far to near, it continually became broader and brighter. Initially as thin as a green silk thread, gradually like a fine rope, like a jade belt, like a stream, like a river—wide like a river falling from the heavens is probably used to describe this scene—the green river arrives from the horizon, descending to the earth, walking in the river is a beautiful silhouette.

At this moment, everyone knows who she is.

Everyone holds their breath.

Even though the increasingly bright light stings their eyes, causing tears to blur their makeup, many still reluctantly wipe their eyes, looking up, eagerly watching that approaching, increasingly towering silhouette.

Finally, Su Shijun stepped onto a brilliant radiance, along with the rushing river, landing on the golden Throne. The great green fox tail blooms like a lotus flower on the high platform, swaying slightly in the night wind, almost covering half the sky.

The ball venue.

Crickets chirping, wind howling, string sounds of piano and zither, clinking of glasses, little wizards singing, elves fluttering wings, and even wizards whispering, all sounds fell silent.

Young male and female wizards in splendid attire bowed their heads and genuflected, paying their highest respect for the presence under the moon of the Upper House Member; the giant Christmas tree at the edge of the venue extinguished its lights, unfolded its rough face, opened its cloudy eyes, stood up from the position it sat for a long time, then wobbled to kneel on one knee.

A phrase suddenly surfaced in Zheng Qing’s mind—the whole world had gone out, but she still glowed.

He could not help turning his face to look again at the edge of the meadow, that long red dress resembling a small red flower breaking through the earth on the snowy ground, solitary and proud looking towards the high platform, it did not bow. Next to her, the originally attentive young warlocks were nervously moving around, soon a large piece of dark meadow in the night separated around her.

Zheng Qing felt he could hardly breathe anymore.
