High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2262: Chapter 83: New Help

Linda Barnes finally showed great mercy and led Zheng Qing through several hidden doors and winding corridors back to the lakeside of Lin Zhong Lake at Jiuyou Academy.

Only then did the young cost student realize that not every guest attending the ball needed to take a carriage or a pumpkin car. These were tools to highlight the esteemed status of certain guests. Most young wizards still traveled to the ballroom in the most primitive way.

”You don’t interact much with the most orthodox Clans of the Moon at the school, so you might not know their strange and outdated rules. Attend a few more such balls, and you’ll understand...”

”I don’t want to understand their rules.” Zheng Qing declined the suggestion of the blonde witch with appreciation.

On the way back, Linda brought up the question she had repeated many times again: ”Why won’t Su Councilor agree to an interview? Does she have any conditions? I can agree to them.”

”Why do you have to interview her?” The boy rubbed his temple helplessly.

”Because I’m about to graduate.”

The former deputy editor of the campus newspaper showed a trace of melancholy on her face: ”I’m not good at fighting, and I don’t plan to join any hunting team to venture into the New World or anywhere else. My internship is just in the nearby Silent Forest, and the experience is not outstanding. If I want to get a good position in the Alliance Organization and quickly accumulate enough magic resources, I must have an exceptionally outstanding resume in some aspect...”

”Isn’t being a deputy editor of the campus newspaper already outstanding enough?” Zheng Qing couldn’t understand: ”I heard from the fatty that very few students take on important editorial roles as sophomores.”

The witch looked at him in surprise, seemingly gaining a new understanding of his dullness, but she patiently explained: ”The reputation of the campus newspaper mainly comes from the First University. More importantly, the deputy editor changes every year, and there’s not just one. At best, I’m just a slightly outstanding graduate... If I just want to become a senior journalist at the Beta Town Post, of course, it’s enough. But if I want to be a formal employee of the Alliance Public Relations Department, this level of excellence is far from sufficient.”

Zheng Qing admired the young witch’s ambition and effort.

But truth be told, in this world, not all ambitions and efforts yield corresponding results.

The two walked silently one after another in the corridor. The boy glanced outside the corridor, happening to see a kappa sneakily crawling out of a hole, clutching a wet water snake in its claw.

”From what I know about Su Councilor, if she’s already vetoed something, the likelihood of restarting it is minimal.” The young cost student’s gaze returned from the kappa, chose his words carefully, and offered his suggestion: ”Why don’t you consider interviewing other wizards?”

”Like who?”

”How about Korma, the North District Great Wise Person? She’s only a year ahead of you and is a younger Big Wizard than Su Councilor. With your connections, it shouldn’t be hard to interview her, right?”

Linda Barnes almost immediately shook her head: ”The North District Wizards are in a very delicate situation right now, and Senior Sister Korma’s advancement ceremony is also very special... The Alliance won’t like such an article.”

Zheng Qing had a sudden inspiration and gave a second suggestion: ”Do you know Doctor Du Zemu? The creator of the Man-made Philosopher’s Stone, participant in the Battle of the Black Prison, once the pride of the First University, and had his independent laboratory while still a student...”

”If you can find the whereabouts of the doctor, I would be very willing.” The blonde witch interrupted the boy’s suggestion, gave him a glance with a faint tone: ”The fatty once asked me to help find Doctor Du Zemu’s whereabouts... It’s rumored to be an internal task of the Atonement Hunting Team.”

Zheng Qing let out a dry laugh, surprisingly, his face didn’t feel hot.

This is probably what growth is, the thought silently passed through his mind.

Not far off, the gurgling sound of Lin Zhong Lake could be clearly heard. Through sparse shrubs, the boy could see the shimmering water and the faint shimmering lights—those were the Lingzhong Lake Night Patrol Team’s Deadly Wind Lamps. Upon encountering them again, Zheng Qing unexpectedly felt a tinge of nostalgia.

Night, kappa, and patrols.

Another name suddenly popped into the boy’s mind.

”Do you know Professor Montreya?” he asked softly.

The blonde witch thought for a moment and then gave an accurate answer: ”An expert in magic script and bloodline at the First University, one of the top registered wizards, has his own independent laboratory in the school, and might advance to Big Wizard at any time... What’s special about him?”

She very keenly sensed the abruptness in the boy’s suggestion.

Zheng Qing said vaguely: ”I’m not sure either, but I’ve heard from an elder before that Professor Montreya had some very radical ideas about bloodline research... Of course, as far as I know, the school is well aware of this situation, and those ideas are just ideas... I mean, maybe you could investigate those ravens by interviewing professionals.”

The witch’s footsteps suddenly stopped.

She tilted her head and looked at the young cost student.

”The fatty’s description wasn’t accurate at all,” she scrutinized the warlock up and down, with a slightly teasing tone: ”He said you might be a bit of a jerk, but inherently honest and straightforward... I’ve already seen the ’jerk’ side of you at the ball tonight, but I didn’t feel the honesty. Just now, out of the three options you gave me, two are related to the task your Atonement team is investigating. I just want to gild my resume and find a good job, not stir up trouble. If you want to catch ravens, you’d better ask someone better suited.”

Zheng Qing, thick-skinned, laughed twice without a hint of embarrassment, self-consolingly waved his hand: ”What jerk or no jerk, it’s all a joke... I just think those ravens are getting a lot of attention lately. If you really investigate something, it could certainly add a vivid stroke to your résumé.”

Although the witch still shook her head, her gaze revealed a hint of contemplation, indicating she might be tempted.

Zheng Qing seized the moment: ”Besides, you’re not fighting alone. If you uncover any clues, my Atonement Hunting Team, and even the Fringe Hunting Team, would assist you... Do you know who the advisor of the Fringe Hunting Team is? Her father... Uh... I mean, although it’s unlikely to gain the friendship of a Legendary Wizard, maneuvering a bit to get a better job offer surely isn’t difficult.”

The blonde witch squinted her eyes slightly.

”Are you certain?” Her choice of words and attitude were just as ambiguous.

Zheng Qing’s spirit lifted, and he patted his chest, taking on everything: ”Don’t worry, if you do uncover something and still don’t get a suitable job offer, I’ll even risk my face to get you an exclusive interview with Su Councilor.”

”Deal.” The witch straightforwardly extended her hand.

Slap!

The two palms clapped heavily together in the lakeside corridor.
