Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1544: Chapter 1545: Special Attention

An Jing, having had breakfast, asked people to pack their things. She and Xiao Changyi were going to take their four children back to the Xiyun mansion.

While the eunuchs and palace maids packed, An Jing and Xiao Changyi played with their four children on the side.

Today is the nineteenth of December, with only eleven days left until the New Year. The children temporarily do not need to attend the Upper Study Room for schooling. They will continue their studies there after the fifteenth of the first month of next year.

Su Chengyu came over right after the morning court session. Seeing that they were already starting to pack, Su Chengyu was a bit disappointed: ”Brother Yi’s sister-in-law, I originally thought you would stay here in the palace for a few more days.”

An Jing laughed and said: ”You better not say anymore, if you keep saying it, your Brother Yi will truly be angry with you. Not only did you make your Brother Yi the Shoulder-to-Shoulder King, but you also renovated our home without telling us anything. To be honest, I am a bit angry. I was used to living in that original main courtyard. Now I don’t even know what it has been transformed into.”

Su Chengyu immediately smiled in accompaniment, ”I didn’t renovate, just expanded it a bit to make it bigger. As for the main courtyard where you lived before, I didn’t let anyone touch it at all, so Sister-in-law doesn’t need to worry.” He paused, ”The national treasury doesn’t have that much extra tael to build more, or else I would have wanted to create a separate place. Right now, I’ll have to wrong Brother Yi and Sister-in-law to live like this.”

Xiao Changyi didn’t say anything, showing no expression, just sitting there. Meanwhile An Yiqing mischievously climbed onto his back, sat on his shoulders, and held his head with two little hands, fearing he would fall off.

An Jing could only find it amusing: ”It’s not wronging at all. As long as there are a few rooms, it’s enough. Now, you even have so many courtyards and so many rooms built for us, won’t they just remain empty in the future? What a waste.”

”How is it a waste then?” Su Chengyu disagreed. ”Brother Yi is now King of Xiyun. If the mansion cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with the Imperial Palace, spreading this word would be laughable.”

Here, the mansion is a symbol of one’s status and position, especially for nobles. The kind of status and position one has determines the kind of mansion one is matched with; not even the slightest sloppiness is acceptable, anyway, it’s particularly meticulous.

Seeing Su Chengyu like this, An Jing didn’t speak about the mansion anymore but said: ”Although your Brother Yi has become the Shoulder-to-Shoulder King, shoulders of Xiyun future still rely on you. Don’t blame your Brother Yi for letting go. He’s not interested in these affairs. He’d rather stay at home and plant cabbage than handle the paperwork on your desk.”

Su Chengyu said: ”I understand. I also have nothing else to bestow upon Brother Yi, so I could only force him to become the Shoulder-to-Shoulder King. Brother Yi hasn’t blamed me, and I’m already very happy. How could I truly force Brother Yi to help me govern Xiyun? However, if something arises in the future that I cannot resolve, I hope Brother Yi’s sister-in-law won’t be troubled to lend a hand in solving it.”

Su Chengyu has truly been open-hearted with them all along, every word sincere, and moreover, Su Chengyu is their younger brother, so An Jing and Xiao Changyi couldn’t possibly truly let go completely.

Just heard An Jing laugh, ”If there truly are issues you cannot resolve, and need our help, feel free to say so. You’re our younger brother. If you have difficult matters, we couldn’t possibly ignore it.”

”Then I’ll thank Brother Yi’s sister-in-law here and now.” Su Chengyu immediately said joyfully.

At that moment, Su Yixing, who was lying on Xiao Changyi’s legs playing, noticed that while the palace maids and eunuchs had packed everything, they hadn’t packed his treasures, and he instantly became anxious.
