Livestream Matchmaking: My Intel Infinitely Refreshes

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Visiting an Industry Senior

”That’s just how protagonists in web novels are,” Zhang Zhe said, holding back a laugh. ”If they find someone annoying, they give them one warning. If the warning isn’t heeded, they just mow them all down.”

”Th-that’s a bit too extreme, isn’t it?”

”Then you just have to increase your own tolerance.”

”It’s one of two paths: change the world or change yourself. You pick. I’m a matchmaking streamer; I won’t say any more on the matter.”

Zhang Zhe had no intention of being this girl’s life coach. His own life wasn’t even sorted out yet, and he couldn’t be bothered with pointless lectures.

The only reason he gave her a pointer at all was because she was on a blind date with him.

Once the girl disconnected from the call, Zhang Zhe quickly tried to welcome the next female caller.

Boss He must have paid for promotion, because there were a ton of viewers today.

But the old woman seemed to have forgotten to hire any shills. In a stream with over 1,000 viewers, not a single person requested to join the call.

He waited a full ten minutes, but there was still no activity.

But Zhang Zhe wasn’t bored for long.

Just as he was wondering if he should send out a ”lucky bag” to attract people to the stream, there was a knock on the door.

Boss He quietly called for him to come out...

The moment Zhang Zhe stepped out, the old woman showered him with praise:

”Xiaozhang, your performance today was excellent!”

”The leadership is very satisfied with your stream overall. Sure, a few clueless people had some minor complaints about your suggestion for civil servants to date preschool teachers, but that’s just because they don’t see the big picture. They don’t realize how great your idea is.”

”Thanks to you, our matchmaking agency already has business lined up for next month.”

’What part of my performance was so good?’ Zhang Zhe wondered. ’Maybe this is what it’s like to be exceptional—even my burps are outstanding?’

But if his performance was so exceptional, wasn’t a verbal reward a little half-assed?

”Is that so? I can even bring business to our matchmaking agency?”

”So, what’s my cut of that business?” Zhang Zhe asked cheerfully.

When Boss He heard that, the smile on her face froze for a moment.

But she was an old pro, after all. She immediately started smiling again, her words sweet as honey:

”I was thinking of giving you a cut, but an old friend of mine reminded me that rewarding a young man like you with money is meaningless.”

”You’ll have plenty of opportunities to make money later on.”

”Right now, you still need to improve your skills.”

”I think your approach to matchmaking is on the right track, but you still need to practice the art of communication. Some of the things you say are too hurtful.”

”As it happens, I have an old friend who also livestreams for matchmaking. She should be on right now. How about I take you to see her?”

”No thanks. Just giving me the money would be easier,” Zhang Zhe said, pointing to the room. ”I’m busy here. I’m still live.”

”It’s fine, it’s fine! She’s just in the next housing complex over. It’s okay if you come back to stream later.” Boss He had already figured out how to entice Zhang Zhe. ”Didn’t I promise to help find you a match last time?”

”Well, my good friend has some suitable candidates. You can go over and look at their profiles. If someone seems like a good fit, we can arrange for you to meet them right away.”

”Really?”

”It’s true. If I’m lying, may I be struck by good luck.”

Seeing how brave Boss He was being, Zhang Zhe hesitated for a moment.

’More than half the viewers in the stream are paid bots anyway,’ he thought. ’Douyin’s traffic-pushing algorithm is interesting. It decides how many viewers you should have, and once you hit that number, it stops recommending you, forcing you to pay for more traffic.’

’These paid bots have lowered the quality of the audience. Otherwise, there’s no way ten minutes would go by without anyone requesting to join the call.’

”Alright, I’ll go with you to pay my respects to this senior of the trade.”

...

The ”senior” Boss He mentioned was the owner of a matchmaking agency in the neighboring housing complex, and also the founder of the Qing City Matchmaker Association.

Everyone called her Mrs. Xu.

She was already retired, but anyone who knew a Matchmaker knew that they only become more zealous after retirement. They practically wish they could pay to become a divine Matchmaker in the heavens, forgoing food and drink just to connect people day in and day out.

The old lady wasn’t in good health. Her legs were weak, and after a fall a few winters ago, she now needed a cane to get around.

So, she simply stopped going out and became a Matchmaker who livestreamed from home.

At first, she streamed on Kuaishou, but after about a month, she was driven mad by the platform’s energetic young trolls. They’d join her call not to ask about matchmaking, but to do viral dances, shout internet catchphrases, and even start eating on camera.

Concerned for the old lady’s mental health, her daughter-in-law managed to persuade her to move her stream over to Xiaohongshu.

It was only when Zhang Zhe arrived at the old lady’s matchmaking agency and saw her streaming that he realized you could even livestream on Xiaohongshu.

And she had quite a few viewers, too—more than two thousand.

’Considering the user demographics of Xiaohongshu,’ he thought, ’out of those two thousand-plus viewers, there are probably two thousand-plus women interested in matchmaking.’

’If every single one of these people went on one blind date with me...’

’Ignoring the mental toll, I could probably unlock all the System’s rewards, right?’

Zhang Zhe watched Mrs. Xu livestreaming and felt a pang of envy.

Too bad the account belonged to the old veteran.

All he could do was watch from the side and learn from her advanced experience.

...

Zhang Zhe and Boss He had arrived at just the right time. Mrs. Xu had just taken a consultation from a 28-year-old woman about her marriage prospects.

On the small whiteboard next to the old lady, the woman’s basic information was already written out:

Born in ’97, height 166cm, weight 46kg;

Self-assessed looks: 5/10;

Graduate of a Tier 1 university, works at a foreign company in Zebra Town, annual income ~120,000 yuan;

Family situation listed as ”average,” has a younger brother, no dowry;

Has a boyfriend of five years, currently planning to get married...

Zhang Zhe quickly scanned the woman’s details. ’Completely average,’ he thought. ’Not only is there no family support to speak of, but she also has a younger brother to help support.’

’A 5/10 for looks seems high.’

’But this is Xiaohongshu, a place where even if a chubby girl rated herself a 1/10, people would comment, ”Ahhh, sis, you’re so cute! You’d be gorgeous if you lost weight!”’

’Her real score is probably a 3.’

’With stats like these, she’s practically invisible on the matchmaking market.’

”My boyfriend has his bachelor’s and master’s from a Project 985 university. He was born in ’96, is also an only son from an average family, and is what you’d call a classic ’small-town swot.’”

”He works at a major tech company now, with an annual salary of around 300,000 yuan.”

”He’s 173cm tall, about 72kg. He’s quite handsome, but his hairline is just a tiiiny bit high.”

”He’s a typical STEM guy—kind of awkward and can’t really provide much emotional support. The good thing is that he’s a decent person and is very emotionally stable.”

”But he has one major flaw: he’s pretty stingy.”

”We’ve been together for so many years, and the most expensive gift he’s ever given me was a gold necklace. But the other day, when we were discussing marriage, he actually asked if we could count that necklace as part of the ’three golds’ betrothal gift...”

The girl on the call rambled on and on.

Zhang Zhe had stopped listening halfway through.

He was already eagerly typing in his old university group chat:

Anyone know a guy like this?

His girlfriend is about to be single.

A Project 985 bachelor’s/master’s grad in Zebra Town... so hard to guess. Is he from the Jiedaokou area (Wuda University) or the Guanshankou area (Huake)?
