Livestream Matchmaking: My Intel Infinitely Refreshes

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Just Here for the Streamer

Actually, there was a lot more to the story of the overseas-educated master’s graduate.

For example, she had dated a university professor and then a handsome, wealthy heir. But now, when discussing her requirements for marriage, that first relationship was conveniently ignored.

It’s not like the professor was richer or more handsome, right?

So how did she stomach it back then?

Another point: her ex-boyfriend was supposedly so great, yet he never married her. The reason for that must be an interesting story in itself.

For many men, if a woman is charming enough—she doesn’t even have to be beautiful, just captivating—and isn’t a hassle, they don’t mind spending a little money to maintain a relationship with her.

It was just like the female boss Zhang Zhe had a matchmaking session with before—a ”short-term selection” type of relationship. A hookup disguised as romance.

Zhang Zhe briefly went over all these points in his head.

Considering he wasn’t the life coach she hired, he didn’t say any of this out loud. Otherwise, it would have been a soul-crushing blow.

”I’m not saying he has to be as handsome or as rich as my ex-boyfriend. That guy actually had a lot of flaws and wasn’t marriage material.”

The woman thought for a moment, then defended herself:

”It’s easy to go from frugal to lavish, but hard to go back. I’m used to eating at Michelin-starred restaurants; now, trying to swallow bucket rice is a bit difficult.”

[What did bucket rice ever do to you?]

[You sure you were eating Michelin and not just the tires?]

[Just ignore women like this. Wait till she’s a bit older and no one wants to be set up with her. She’ll get realistic then.]

”But you don’t have money right now, so you can only afford bucket rice.”

Zhang Zhe stated objectively, ”When you go to the matchmaking event tomorrow, take a look at the other women around 35. See the caliber of men who are interested in them.”

(At many matchmaking events, showing interest means giving a bouquet of flowers)

”Divorced with kids and a potbelly is the norm.”

”Being poor or ugly might just be their most minor flaws.”

”You’re thinking of using marriage to make your life better than it is now. Right—find a rich, handsome guy who can provide emotional support and spend money on you. Who wouldn’t want that?”

”But the reality is, the women your age you’re competing with are just looking for someone to get by with.”

”Well...” The woman was at a loss for words. Just as Zhang Zhe had noted before, she wasn’t stupid, so she understood what he was saying.

But understanding didn’t mean she could accept it.

It even seemed to hit a nerve. Finally, she blurted out, ”Then why should I get married? What’s in it for me?”

”Don’t ask me that,” Zhang Zhe couldn’t help but laugh. ”How should I know why you’re only thinking about marriage now?”

”I may be a matchmaking streamer, but I have to say, some people just aren’t cut out for marriage.”

”Like you.”

”If you hold your nose and settle down now, it would be a disaster for you and for your future husband.”

”Otherwise, why do you think all those men and women who get married through matchmaking end up in huge fights, with one slapping the other and the other stabbing back?”

[So true. For some people, getting married just ruins two families.]

[Is it possible the ’sisters’ just get married to get out of debt?]

[There’s no benefit for men to get married these days. The so-called ’continuing the family line’ just means having a bunch of wage slaves.]

[It’s survival of the fittest. People who don’t want to marry and reproduce are meant to be weeded out by nature anyway.]

Zhang Zhe’s final words truly struck a chord with the woman on the other end of the video call.

She was silent for a long, long time.

Anyone watching might have thought she’d fallen asleep.

Twice, Zhang Zhe was about to end the call, but both times she said:

”Sir, wait a moment. Let me think a little more. I feel like I’m close to figuring it out.”

A full three minutes passed. Zhang Zhe had run out of things to say to the live chat by the time the woman finally squeezed out a sentence:

”Thank you, sir. I think I know what my problem is now. I’m really not cut out for marriage. I’ll have to think more about this whole matchmaking thing.”

”Mhm, you should definitely think it over.”

After ending the call, Zhang Zhe glanced at the live chat. Everyone was saying he’d done a great service for his fellow men.

Teaching a woman like that a lesson and stopping her from going out and ruining someone’s life was practically a virtuous deed.

Otherwise, whoever married her would probably be tormented by her contempt, either for being too ugly or too poor.

”I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a virtuous deed.”

”’Sage points’ could definitely get a +1, though.”

”I just like to speak the truth. Anyway, my stream is purely for the public good. I don’t need to suck up to you guys for gifts.”

”Don’t get me wrong, I’m really not hinting for you to send gifts.”

”If you really think this streamer is great, just help me out with some likes and share the stream...”

Watching his viewer count steadily climbing, Zhang Zhe felt a strong sense of accomplishment.

Besides, his gains weren’t limited to the stream’s stats.

The most important thing was the system’s reward.

[Current Accumulated Happiness Points: 4]

[Currently Exchangeable Items: Basic Body Building Pill, Wisdom Refining Pill]

[6 more points required to unlock the next exchangeable item]

Zhang Zhe could now exchange for a Wisdom Refining Pill.

Considering the effect of the Body Building Pill, Zhang Zhe figured the Wisdom Refining Pill couldn’t be too bad. After taking it, his IQ would go up by at least 1, right?

For someone as smart as him, even a single point increase was a huge improvement.

Intelligence has almost no diminishing returns; the smarter, the better.

However, he still had to stream in the afternoon, and Zhang Zhe was worried that using the pill might cause some strange side effects, like smoke rising from his head or his eyes glowing gold.

If he exposed himself on the livestream and attracted the attention of Institute 749, that would be bad.

Besides, he was very curious about what kind of wondrous item would be next, the one that required 10 points to unlock.

Could it be a Spirit Liquid for cleansing one’s essence and refining their marrow?

Anyway, there was still plenty of time left today. Zhang Zhe decided to carefully take stock of his gains tonight.

For now, he would focus on the stream.

After quickly eating a cup of instant noodles, he rushed right back to his stream.

Quite a few viewers had left.

But that was fine. All he had to do was end the stream and start it again, and everyone would know that the handsome newcomer to the matchmaking streaming world was back in business.

”Just like that, it’s already afternoon.”

”Is anyone in the chat here for Service A?”

[Is the streamer that desperate to get married?]

[You’re really that thirsty.]

[Seriously, bro? You’re actually trying to find a date online? I thought you were just doing it for content.]

[The last time I saw a real matchmaking session, it was between a couple in their 60s.]

[I think matchmaking should be done offline, right? Online is just for consultations, more or less.]

”Everyone, don’t misunderstand online matchmaking.”

Having gained so much in just one morning, Zhang Zhe already felt that livestreamed matchmaking was a viable path, so he wanted to set the record straight about it:

”Offline matchmaking definitely has advantages over online. For example, you might not get a real sense of someone’s height and weight from text, but in person, you can tell in a single glance if they’re a big fat pig.”

”But online matchmaking has one feature that offline can never compete with.”

”And that’s directness.”

”You can say whatever is on your mind.”

”In real life, a lot of people are too concerned with saving face. Even when they’re not satisfied, they have to rack their brains for an excuse. You don’t have that concern on the internet...”

”See? Someone agrees with me. Welcome, [Lilith]. Just from a name like Lilith, I can tell you’re an interesting one.”

Lilith was Adam’s first wife—the same Adam from the story of Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit in Western mythology. She was cast out of the Garden of Eden for defying God, and in literature, she is often seen as a symbol of female rebellion.

”Streamer, you actually know what my username means!” The girl’s voice was very feminine and a little coy. ”I was right about you. You’re very smart.”

”I want to be matched with you!”
