Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 899: Chapter 527: Planting the Giant Tree, Disaster Strikes Again!

Xu Xin walked towards the palace.

Zeng Tao and Jin Yue followed behind him.

”Keke! Keke!” Zeng Tao kept shouting for Keke around him, then complained, ”Where did that little one run off to now!”

Xu Xin wasn’t worried about Keke’s safety; even if he got into danger, Keke wouldn’t be in danger.

He walked towards the palace, observing the surroundings as he went.

Previously, when underground, the palace had been surrounded by swarms of flying insects, and after reaching the surface in a rush, he hadn’t had a chance to properly take in the environment around them.

Now it appeared that the area around the palace was actually very open. Besides the Crystal Palace itself, which had a massive courtyard, there was an open space of about two hundred meters surrounding the palace.

It’s only natural, after all, this palace seems to be the residence of the supreme ruler of the entire Crystal City. According to normal city planning, the palace wouldn’t be grouped with the other lower crystal buildings.

However, this area is quite large indeed.

Moreover, besides the lake that occupied part of it before, the rest was fertile soil emitting a blue light, and Xu Xin even saw a few glimmers of purple light!

This place is really nice.

He walked around to the back of the palace, where there was an open space that resembled a vast plaza.

”Can’t we plant something here?” Zeng Tao’s eyes lit up as she looked at the open space around the palace. ”Hey, that premium treehouse seed! That treehouse seed would be perfect in this area!”

Indeed.

Xu Xin had also thought of this.

The palace was precisely at the center of this area. If the premium treehouse seed could indeed grow into the towering giant tree he had seen in Shi Wanyun’s image, then this would be the most suitable location.

The Crystal City and the giant tree could provide protection for each other.

Although he still didn’t know the purpose of the towering giant tree produced by this premium treehouse seed, it was definitely fine to plant it within Crystal City.

As for the problem of the giant tree’s dense canopy blocking the light, that was even less of a concern.

The lighting within Crystal City was already bright enough, creating daylight conditions even underground, let alone on the surface.

The interior of this Crystal City is really suitable as their headquarters.

If they could transplant their current treehouse here, it would be perfect.

While Crystal City has strong defenses and the ability to withstand extreme weather, it lacks the various functions of the treehouse itself. Combining the two would be perfect.

But their treehouse currently cannot be transplanted.

If the treehouse could be transplanted, then explorers like them wouldn’t be spread out across the 188 District, unable to offer each other timely help as they do now.

... No, that’s not right.

The treehouse seeds they, as survivors, have were prepared by those people, and this Crystal City was prepared by the same group.

Since that other self planned to gather everyone here, didn’t he consider how to gather comrades scattered in various places during preparation?

Or does living in this Crystal City mean having to abandon the treehouse?

... Other ordinary survivors might do that, but there’s no way he could abandon his treehouse.

His treehouse represented his efforts over a long time. Its many powerful capabilities, especially the much-valued [Random Augmentation] ability, couldn’t be retained without sleeping in the treehouse.

Also, despite their fallout with that mysterious voice, its constant emphasis that ”Never abandon your treehouse; it is your only reliance” since the survivors entered this world still lingered in Xu Xin’s mind.

... He’d deal with these matters later.

Judging by the time, those people probably hadn’t yet gone through the high-speed metabolic phase, so... he would go inside the palace first.

”This Crystal City is very safe; you might as well go check out the spots you’ve been interested in,” Xu Xin said to the two beside him.

”Are you heading to the palace? We’ll join you,” Zeng Tao said, eyeing the palace, ”I also want to have a look inside! Maybe I can return to the past just like them; I want to see my home too!”

Jin Yue hesitated for a moment, then shook her head: ”I’ll... pass. I’m not going. I’ll help you find Keke instead.”

”Huh? You don’t want to take a look?”

”No.”

Like a person fleeing, Jin Yue kicked off the ground and quickly distanced herself from the vicinity of the palace.

Watching her leave, it seemed she didn’t want to see her family from the original world forgetting what she looked like.

”Hmm... isn’t seeing your original home a good thing?” Zeng Tao said, confused.

”What you’d see would mostly just be an image of the past,” Xu Xin sighed, understanding her feelings too. ”Perhaps, she doesn’t want to give up that little bit of hope in her heart.”

A hope that they might return to their original world and live happily with family and friends again.

”That’s just escapism,” Zeng Tao responded, shaking her head. ”It’s better to look at the past one last time and then summon the strength to look forward.”

Xu Xin gave her a slightly surprised look.

”What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

”Heh, I just didn’t expect you to say something so sensible.”
