Chapter 851: You Will Forget Your Origins?

The Incubus System Chapter 841. You Will Forget Your Origins?

Celiaʼs gaze lingered on me, her concern was clear.

”You talk as if you were never human, brother,” she remarked.

A dry smile stretched across my lips, acknowledging the truth in her words.

I nodded repeatedly. ”The more I live my life as a demon, the more I forget my daily life as a human,” I confessed.

”Why? Does that mean there will be a point where you will forget your origins?” Celiaʼs question held a tinge of worry.

I shook my head in response.

”No, itʼs not that Iʼve lost my memory. Itʼs just that my thought process has changed. I donʼt forget my past, I just think less like a human these days. The weight of my responsibilities requires me to think more like a demon now. Itʼs a necessity,” I explained, trying to clarify my mindset to her.

”Itʼs not like when I plan to travel, I immediately think about taking a car, the MRT, or a bus. My first thought goes straight to utilizing my portal skill or teleportation... maybe even considering flying with my wings,” I added.

Celia listened intently, nodding. ”I see... So you mean youʼre increasingly reliant on your powers and more inclined to embrace your status as a demon,” she interpreted.

Her assessment was pretty much on point. I couldnʼt help but nod in agreement.

”Exactly. Itʼs not that Iʼve lost touch with being human or forgotten my past experiences. Itʼs just that my priorities have shifted. My responsibility as a demon lord demands a different perspective,” I clarified.

The weight of my dual existence was the crux of the matter. The inherent demands of being a demon lord entailed a shift in focus and a different set of priorities. It wasnʼt that I wanted to forget my human side, but the overwhelming responsibilities and the need to navigate the complexities often took precedence, altering the way I approached daily life and decision making.

”You have nothing to worry about,” I assured Celia, aiming to alleviate her concerns. ”Itʼs just…” But even as I said it, a sense of unease lingered within me, a feeling that was hard to shake off.

I turned my attention to the TV screen, where the police were carefully combing through Peace Blossom Square, making sure there were no lingering victims or signs of trouble.

Watching their meticulous search, an unspoken thought rattled around my mind.

ʼItʼs just that Iʼm starting to think that humans are too weak.ʼ

But saying those exact words? That felt like a line I couldnʼt cross.

”It is just?” Celia inquired, her eyes locked on me, seeking an explanation to my unfinished sentence.

”Itʼs just that I donʼt regret gaining this power,” I began, trying to steer the conversation away from the darker thoughts swirling in my mind.

I forced a grin, attempting to lighten the mood. ”I mean, come on, Iʼm practically a hero now, right? A masked hero, protecting the human world from all the darkness,” I joked, my attempt at humor a tad cringe-worthy, even to my own ears. But I hoped it would be enough to mask to what I was thinking.

”You are a demon lord, brother. They donʼt think of that. They think you are a threat,” Celia reminded me.

”And I donʼt mind that,” I stated with a hint of defiance. A sly smirk appeared on my lips. ”They should fear me. Because I want them to grow and not always rely on me,” I remarked, my tone firm.

”Who knows, I might retire early. The idea of a prince of darkness who ʼsorta protects the human worldʼ sounds messed up, you know,” I added, highlighting the irony of the situation. It was almost comical in a way... me, a demon lord, attempting to protect the human world.

At some point, I realized I might not be patrolling every night, hunting down the demons that prowled in the darkness. It was a notion I had considered more than once lately.

”True,” Celia conceded reluctantly.

The idea of transitioning from the role of the protector to fostering self-reliance within the human world posed a complex challenge. It wasnʼt just about safeguarding against immediate threats but also guiding them to stand on their own against the dangers that lurked in the shadows.

”Anyway… thanks for the lunch. Itʼs tasty,” I praised. The flavors lingered in my mouth, a brief moment of delight in the midst of a tumultuous day.

I rose from my seat and planted a kiss on Celiaʼs cheek, showing gratitude for the meal before preparing to make my exit.

But as I took a step, something prompted me to pause and pivot back towards her.

”Oh, right. Also, could you please turn it off?” I pointed toward the TV. ”They called me hideous like seven times. If I hear it once again, Iʼll probably step into that reporterʼs dream and give it a little twist. Iʼd have her thinking Iʼm the most stunning creature in this world,” I jested, a sardonic smile etching my face as I strolled away.
