Chapter 835: Whereʼs The Logic?

The Incubus System Chapter 825. Whereʼs The Logic?

I couldnʼt help but retort in exasperation, ʼWhy? Do they want to send him to his death?ʼ

The senators ought to know that Nathan and I were worlds apart in terms of power. Pitting him against me was nothing short of a death sentence.

ʼThis has something to do with the Angel Creation Project. They want to test how far Nathan can deal with you,ʼ she explained. ʼThat will make it a comparison to your strength later.ʼ

I narrowed my eyes at Nathan. The Angel Creation Project, a dangerous experiment born from the senatorsʼ desire. The fact that they were willing to send Nathan, a talented but outmatched demon hunter, as a pawn in this game, spoke volumes about their ruthlessness.

ʼRight.ʼ

With a heavy sigh, I realized my hands were tied. My control over the senators who were, at least partially, under my influence was limited. I couldnʼt force their hands or halt this reckless plan, yet.

I turned my attention to Nathan. He didnʼt realize that he had become a pawn of the power-hungry senators.

Nathan responded to my displeasure with a determined glare. His narrowed eyes locked onto mine, and he seemed to interpret my frustration as a challenge.

Without hesitation, he summoned his arsenal, seven gleaming light swords, each radiating a soft, ethereal glow. They circled him like guardian spirits, poised and ready for action.

The display of power was impressive, even if it was ill-advised given our vast power difference. This demon hunter was willing to stand his ground against a demon lord.

He gestured forward, sending those radiant blades hurtling toward me. But I didnʼt need to unleash my Demonic Spike or engage in direct combat. I had a powerful trick up my sleeve.

ʼTeleportation.ʼ

In an instant, I disappeared from my current spot.

The gleaming swords sliced through the space where I had been standing just moments before and embedded themselves in the ground.

A deafening boom echoed, and a cloud of dust and smoke rose from the impact. In the next instant, I reappeared directly in front of Nathan.

Swiftly, I reached out and gripped his face firmly. With a concentrated focus, I activated my skill, ʼMind Corruption, read.ʼ

I delved into Nathanʼs thoughts, and a wealth of information surfaced. I began to understand the inner workings of his mind, the motivations that had driven him to confront me.

The senators, it seemed, had been the instigators behind this challenge. They had conveyed to Nathan their desire to test his abilities against mine. This test was to serve as a measure of his strength in comparison to mine, part of some larger plan connected to the Angel Creation Project.

Nathanʼs personal aspirations became evident as well. He harbored a deep-seated desire to surpass my human father, striving to become the strongest demon hunter in existence. He yearned for recognition, to establish himself as an extraordinary figure within his realm. His animosity toward me, rooted in my identity as Ethan, my fatherʼs son, had festered. Nathan resented me because he believed my existence had overshadowed his own.

In essence, he sought to prove his worth, to show that he could stand alongside, if not above, any other demon hunter. The confrontation with me was his way of attempting to make this claim to power and recognition.

ʼManipulation. Sleep.ʼ

With a simple command, I ordered Nathan to sleep, and almost immediately, his eyelids drooped, and he fell into a deep slumber. His body went limp, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Nathan lay unconscious at my feet, and Mrs. Clea, who had been lurking in the shadows, seemed about to step into the open. But before she could make her move, a new voice, a male voice, emerged from the periphery.

”Release him!” Larryʼs voice rang in my ears, and I turned my head to the familiar sound.

There he stood, Larry, in his demon hunter uniform. His hand was poised, a blue Mana Spike ready to unleash its power. But I couldnʼt ignore the subtle quiver in his hand. It was clear that while he grasped the gravity of the situation, his determination to help Nathan pushed him to face his fears.

”You owe me one, remember?” he reminded me, referencing our last battle. ”Now I want you to pay. Let him go.”

I took a moment to consider the situation. It was evident that Larry was trying to balance his personal debt to me with his duty as a demon hunter. My eyes shifted between Nathan, still unconscious on the ground, and Larryʼs determined yet shaky posture.

My smirk deepened, but I took a deliberate moment to respond. With a flick of my fingers, I engaged my Telekinesis once more. Nathanʼs unconscious form floated into the air, then gently descended into Larryʼs waiting arms.

”Now I donʼt owe you anything,” I declared, my tone cool.

Larry regarded me carefully, his expression a mixture of emotions. ”Thank you, Great Demon,” he said, and it was hard to decipher if he was expressing gratitude or just a deep sense of relief that I had spared Nathanʼs life.
