The Incubus System

Chapter 840: Mask

The Incubus System Chapter 830. Mask

Breaking the silence, I leaned forward.

”Mind explaining further?” I inquired.

The very fact that Azrael and Lord Damon were discussing this made it clear that this was no trifling matter.

Azrael shook his head from side to side. ”I canʼt give more information. Thatʼs all I know,” he admitted. ”I just felt a huge, strange power. Something Iʼve never felt before... It felt very faint, like a distant echo.”

He continued. ”At first, I thought it might be a sign of another demon lordʼs birth, so I decided to investigate. But when I traced it to the source, there was nothing there. It was in the middle of nowhere.”

”Strangely,” he added, ”I felt a presence there, but then it faded, and just disappeared into thin air. Iʼve never encountered anything like it before.”

Azraelʼs territory was indeed far from the capital and he didnʼt have a portal. But he had one of the best speeds among the demon lords so he could arrive here in no time in a few hours.

”Hmm…” My eyes darted around the room, searching for clues that might connect the dots between this peculiar incident and the recent attacks on the human world. I felt that this couldnʼt be a mere coincidence.

ʼThis is strange, the attack on the human world just happened,ʼ I mused. ʼHe should be just feeling it, but why did he feel it a few hours ago?ʼ

But then, doubts began to creep into my thoughts.

ʼIs it because of something else?ʼ I pondered internally, my eyes narrowing in concentration. ʼOr is he…ʼ My thoughts trailed off, a bold accusation flashing through my mind.

It couldnʼt be, could it?

The possibility that Azrael might be involved, intentionally or otherwise.

I clenched my jaw, knowing that jumping to conclusions without any evidence was reckless. It was just a suspicion that had emerged for no apparent reason. But it seemed like every time I attempted to draw a logical conclusion, new questions showed up.

”The power... Is it something similar to Zatan and Beelʼs?” I inquired, leaning in closer.

Once again, Azrael shook his head. ”The power…” he began, his voice trailing off as he sought the right words to describe it. ”It isnʼt quite like a typical demon lordʼs power. Wait…”

He fell into a brief silence, deep in thought as he tried to find a comparison. His furrowed eyebrows indicated his disbelief at what he was about to say.

”It was kind of similar to a demon lordʼs,” he continued, his tone fraught with confusion, ”but not quite. Itʼs like it belongs to a demon lord, yet it doesnʼt feel like it belongs to our kin. Itʼs somewhere in between, like a hybrid of a demon lordʼs power and that of some other creature. But, Damian, I really donʼt know what it is.”

”For sure, it is not angelic power,” he stated firmly.

Lord Damonʼs face contorted with seriousness. ”Okay, what creature do you mean?” he inquired.

Azrael pondered the question, his eyes drifting toward the floor. ”Hmm…” he mused.

He had to sift through his impressions.

”Iʼm not sure about that. Itʼs not human either.” His gaze was distant, as if trying to grasp a fleeting memory. ”But I feel nostalgia from it. Itʼs like belonging to this demon world. Like… the core maybe?”

In that fraction of a moment, I noticed a subtle change in Lord Damonʼs expression, a flicker of realization that crossed his face. It was fleeting, easily missed, but it didnʼt escape my observation. He knew something, and that small revelation had set off alarm bells in my mind. R̃άNꝋꞖЁş

Yet, like the skilled diplomat he was, Lord Damon quickly masked his reaction.
