Child of Destiny

Chapter 2077: Aoki, the Forgotten King of Spears (Part 2)

...…

Arthur wanted to fight Gunner himself as well due to their certain history. Unfortunately, he knew that it would be better to let Aoki handle that guy, especially when his eyes were already locked on either Boa or the mysterious expert from the Dragon Pavilion.

Of course, there was also a change where the Dragon Pavilion and Hydra Guild would face for that round as well, which would greatly benefit them to a certain extent, especially when Arthur and Chaotic Luck would be forced to face each other next if the two of them face each other.

That way, they could satisfy their egos by rivaling organizations while also forcing the alliance created by their opponents to be broken without lifting a finger.

However, Arthur believed that those would most likely save their strength and wait for the final trial before deciding to face each other with their full strength.

That was the conclusion that he came up with, given his understanding of both sides. Of course, he also had to make his move as fast as possible when the current battle ended, making sure that he would be facing either of those two later.

…

Back on the battlefield, Aoki was currently carrying a spear and resting it on his shoulder in a somewhat laidback manner.

He knew that this would be quite a challenging battle, especially when his opponent was among the current top gods within the game.

Of course, he was not worried about himself, especially when his strength was not that bad either.

”Ah~! It has been a while since I got serious, huh? Should I stretch my muscles? I think it is good to remind the new generation about our existence,” he mumbled while staring at his opponent.

In the meantime, Gunner was currently having a serious look on his face. He knew that his current opponent was not going to be an easy pick, especially when they used to be one of the Kings reigning in the previous list of apex experts, such as the Monster Player List.

The monsters that came from that generation were no joke, even with the current gaming era.

Even though two years were quite a long hiatus within the virtual world, which also greatly bridged the gap between them and the other experts chasing right behind them, the godly existences of that time were still a force to reckon with.

Most of them just chose to remain silent and lie low, waiting for the right opportunity to appear once again.

During the previous patch, a few of these legendary Monster Class Players were already making their appearances one after another, seemingly announcing their return.

Quite a lot of them had already become more active around that time, making the situation within the game more complicated.

Among these legendary Monster Class Players, those who had founded most of the powerhouse guilds and strong organizations were among the most dangerous bunch.

As for the monstrous individuals who were acting as lone wolves during those times, most of them were from the even more terrifying bunch, just like Khing, who had dominated the rankings during his reign, and Pharaoh, who was among his strongest rivals.

There was also the Mercenary King, who was not weaker than either of those two and had founded the strongest mercenary group right after the incident of «True Era» had taken place.

Then there were others like Snow White, Cold Moon, Tora, and Yami, who belonged to powerful groups.

These legendary figures were just a few that could be listed.

Among these people, it was said that the man before Gunner was from the same batch as these monstrous people, even rivaling all those big names.

It was not clear who he was at that time since he was currently using a different in-game name right now. But it was suspected that he was among the dangerous people who were known for wielding the spear.

Among the legendary figures that he could think of, Gunner suspected that Aoki was the rumored King of Spears from that era.

He was somewhat forgotten due to his sudden disappearance alongside the other legendary figures, rivaling himself.

He was one of the most powerful and notorious names at that time, who was capable of fighting even an entire army by himself.

One of his most notable achievements was when he destroyed a coalition of guilds that were trying to hunt down his party.

During that battle, it was said that he had blocked a certain canyon, preventing anyone from passing.

He not only showcased his powerful combat prowess and unrivaled spearmanship at that time, but he also warded off the entire coalition by himself, not even letting a single person pass.

That had cemented his name within the annals of the virtual games.

What followed those achievements was his battle against certain individuals, who were as strong as he or fellow legends themselves.

It was still not confirmed if this person was truly that legendary figure, the forgotten King of Spears.

However, based on the clues that they had gathered and the current information that was presented to them just recently, there was a high chance that such an assumption was true.

”The King of Spears, huh? Letʼs see if you are worthy of such a title and whether you can still match the current era,” mumbled Gunner, along with a mocking smile.

He was confident in himself. He was not scared whether his opponent was someone from the current Godly Ranking List or the previous Monster Player List. For him, they were all stepping stones that he needed to surpass so that he could cement his name in the gaming world.

…

BOOM!

Right after their auras collided against one another, a powerful storm of energy filled the entire battlefield, spinning chaotically like a violent storm.

Not long after, they also released their respective Battle Spirits, which then manifested behind them.

A massive humanoid figure appeared behind, who looked like a warrior from the medieval era. Multiple weapons were hanging on his back, which also came from different varieties or types.

Bang!

Slamming the metal box right beside him, Gunner swiftly opened it before tossing the weapons within it into the air.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

These weapons then floated behind him and formed an array, seemingly acting as an organized military unit awaiting his orders.

He had also summoned his Elemental Spirits, initiating his version of Elemental Spirit Possession.

One of them swiftly possessed the metal box beside him, seemingly making it alive, while the other turned into multiple strings that attached themselves to all the weapons that were hovering behind Gunner and connected them to the metal box.

…

In the meantime, Aoki pursed his lips a little when he saw all these. He then released an even stronger aura, which swiftly manifested into his version of Battle Spirit.

Boom!

A seemingly powerful general from ancient times manifested behind him, donning a set of majestic armor and wielding a legendary spear.

This general was also riding a majestic horse, serving as his steed. This warhorse was also wearing a set of armor that seemed to have matched its masterʼs, complementing each otherʼs appearance.

BOOM!

Aokiʼs aura skyrocketed into a whole different level right after this Battle Spirit appeared, even dominating the entire battlefield due to his presence alone.

Gunner even felt that he was facing an entire army rather than a single person due to this overwhelming pressure.

He now somewhat understood why these people were called a legend within the game. They earned themselves those titles for a reason.

However, he would not back down and urged his powers to reach an even stronger state, rivaling his opponentʼs suppression.

BOOM!

He did not wait any longer and kicked the ground right after, propelling himself toward his opponent in an extremely aggressive manner.

Whoosh!

Cutting through the air, he dragged a massive hammer behind him. He had also produced a series of sonic booms during the process.

Swoosh!

He appeared before his opponent in almost an instant, brandishing his heavy hammer with all his might.

Boom!

The air around him seemed to have exploded due to his actions, creating a powerful and overlapping shockwave.

At the same time, a strong gravitational force locked onto Aokiʼs figure, preventing him from moving or doing anything.

Aoki, on the other hand, seemed to be completely unbothered by the incoming attack. He remained still and just stared at his opponent with his deep and mysterious gaze.

Whoosh!

He only made his move when the head of the hammer was about to strike him down.

His movements seemed to be extremely slow on the outside, making the surrounding people believe that he was moving in slow motion.

However, this simple and slow set of movements seemed to be capable of matching the actions of his opponent, which was supposed to be at extreme speed.

Then, everyone saw Aoki slowly lower his spear, pointing its tip toward his opponent.

Despite his slow movements, his spear still managed to catch up to his opponentʼs.

Bang!

Right after, the other parties witnessed the tip of the spear accurately hitting the center of the hammerhead, killing the latterʼs momentum in an instant.

”What!?”

Gunner was taken aback at how his opponent easily stopped that full-blown attack from him.

Moreover, the opposing party also saw through his techniques in an instant and spotted its weakness.

While he remained suspended in the air, Aoki stared at him with eyes devoid of emotion.

”Kids these days easily become confident and lack respect toward the previous generation,” mumbled Aoki to himself before pouring more strength into his arms and pushing the spear forward.

Boom!

With that seemingly slight push, his opponent was sent flying toward the opposite direction like a kite with a broken string.

”Let me remind you about the forgotten legend.”
