I Am Scouted by Real Madrid

Chapter 732: Chapter 22: What! Chen Is Standing in Front of the Goal!

”What?”

”Chen Zhong as goalkeeper?”

”Where’s Real Madrid’s backup goalkeeper?”

”What? Injured before even taking the field???”

Only two minutes into the match, some fans were still arriving at the stadium late, while others watching from home had just turned on their TVs, only to see Chen Zhong donning the green goalkeeper jersey, putting on gloves, and standing in front of the goal.

Many fans couldn’t resist rubbing their eyes.

What’s going on, Chen Zhong is actually playing as goalkeeper?

This is truly a case of being Real Madrid’s versatile player, a brick that can be moved wherever needed!

Besides, from the looks of it, Chen Zhong might soon face his first test.

That test is Luis Garcia’s free kick.

Spain has two Garcias, one is the forward Sergio Garcia, and the other is the midfielder Luis Garcia, and it was Sergio Garcia who earned Casillas the red card.

”Spanish free kick.”

”This position allows a direct shot on goal.”

”Chen Zhong stands in front of the goal, directing the players’ positioning.”

”This is his first time playing the role of goalkeeper in his career.”

”However, we can have some expectations since Chen Zhong has tried multiple positions throughout his career.”

”And each time, his debut in a new position has been impressive.”

The Spanish team highly values this free kick, they intend to leverage Chen Zhong playing as goalkeeper to try and score directly from the free kick.

They have skilled free-kick takers in their team.

Luis Garcia is precisely there to take the free kick.

At this moment, he stands in front of the ball, his eyes sharply focusing on the direction of the goal, seemingly pondering what kind of technique to use to kick the ball in.

Chen Zhong shouts loudly in front of the goal, instructing his teammates to move and prepare to block the opponent’s shooting angles.

During this process, Chen Zhong also checked his goalkeeper attributes.

While he certainly doesn’t have a badge, his reaction speed is quite good, combined with his height and build, along with a calm mind and strong physique, Chen Zhong feels that as long as he cooperates well with his teammates in front of the goal, it should suffice.

Luis Garcia stands at the 25-yard line, continuously taking deep breaths, adjusting his rhythm. His gaze is directed towards the goal, and amidst the fans’ cheers, he steps with determination and strikes the ball.

The ball curves around Real Madrid’s wall.

The Spanish fans in the stands crane their necks while Mourinho on the sidelines is somewhat nervous.

The quality of this free kick shot is pretty good, Chen Zhong...

Can he make it?

If it was an average impromptu goalkeeper, they’d probably be feeling a bit panicked right now, but Chen Zhong is different; he remains very calm and can predict the ball’s trajectory early.

He moves as the ball just clears the wall, positioning himself at the spot where it will land.

This is a very risky move, as a misjudgment could result in the embarrassing scenario of ushering the ball into the net.

The ball is moving very quickly, Chen Zhong picked a good spot, opting not to try catching the ball securely but instead punching it upward with his fists.

This scene nearly made Mourinho’s heartbeat skip, but seeing the ball fly over the crossbar, he lets out a sigh of relief. He was indeed worried that Chen Zhong would judge the position right but fumble the save, leading to a goal!

That would be a major blow to both the player himself and his teammates.

Though Chen Zhong’s handling wasn’t very ”professional,” his positioning was decent enough, and his save was successful.

”The Spanish free kick!”

”Garcia!”

”Chen Zhong knocks the ball out of bounds.”

”This was a very unprofessional save.”

”The only consolation is, his save was successful.”

The commentator jokes, while the fans in the stands gasp in surprise. To be honest, a save like Chen Zhong’s is rarely seen.

Especially for Real Madrid fans, who erupt in laughter after the gasps of surprise.

On the Real Madrid bench, players like Benzema and Di Maria, who haven’t taken the field yet, are craning their necks, watching intently.

And players not in the roster, like Paul Pogba, are showing peculiar smiles.

”The Spanish team takes their first corner kick.”

”Garcia kicks the ball out.”

”Into the middle!”

”Chen Zhong!”

”Leaps high.”

”Heads the ball???!!!”

The commentator’s voice changes a bit; in all his years of commentating, it’s the first time he sees a goalkeeper using his head instead of his hands for a clearance. But to be fair, Chen Zhong’s leap was incredibly high!

Even beyond the commentator.

Players from both teams, seeing this, are quite stunned.

One aspect is the shock at Chen Zhong’s leaping ability!

Jumping so high.

The other aspect is the surprise at seeing Chen Zhong wearing the green goalkeeper’s kit, yet choosing to use his head to clear instead of his hands...

It’s common to see goalkeepers charge out, but a keeper in the box using his head to clear? How often have you seen that!

”Chen! Chen!” Marcelo calls out loudly to Chen Zhong: ”Look at your hands! Your hands!”

Initially, Chen Zhong doesn’t understand what Marcelo means, but then he looks down at his gloves and suddenly realizes!

Oh crap!

Right! I’m the goalkeeper!

Why am I using my head?!

Chen Zhong pats his head, nodding towards Marcelo to show he understands, and Marcelo, slightly perturbed, turns away pondering if Chen Zhong can really defend the goal well like this.
