Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Of all the tools Li Younan made, his favorite and the most practical one is the one he’s holding right now.

What is the most troublesome thing about being outdoors? It’s not being tired with nowhere to rest, nor is it lacking food to munch on. It’s when you’re tired and want to drink water but have no water to drink.

Previously, a big factor limiting Li Younan from long-distance exploration was the lack of any water container in his equipment.

He certainly couldn’t fill a pot with water and then run around carrying the pot, could he?

So before he set out, he made a water-storage bottle from wood, filled with his brewed tea.

When he gets tired, he takes it out and drinks a sip.

Today he’s not expecting to immediately find large wild animals, but he still grips his bow and arrow tightly, ready to shoot at any time.

This time, the valley where he found a female goat before yielded no anomalies or unexpected finds.

He’s slightly disappointed because last time he arrived here, he encountered a bear and a coyote.

After walking for another half hour or so, Li Younan climbed up a slope, and his view finally opened up.

This is already a relatively high terrain, standing here you can even directly see Chilco Lake.

Li Younan stood in place and observed around, suddenly making a thrilling discovery — a pile of dung.

He immediately recognized this pile of dung was buffalo dung.

Information about buffalo near the lakeshore popped into his mind.

The cows living here, unsurprisingly, should be wild buffalo.

He checked around again and didn’t find a large area of dung, indicating this buffalo probably isn’t moving in a herd.

Slightly disappointing is that it’s not winter, there’s no snow on the ground, so although he found some footprints, it’s hard to discern the buffalo’s direction.

Fortunately, the dung seems fairly fresh, which suggests the buffalo that left it may not have wandered far.

Li Younan then decided to explore around.

Li Younan spent about two hours investigating the area.

This hard work was not without gains.

The good news is he did find traces of buffalo; the bad news is he saw several buffalo fleeing on the opposite hillside from afar.

But getting to the opposite hillside requires traveling too far, and the path has dense forests with possibly dangerous slopes and cliffs.

Even if he manages to get to the other side, the buffalo might have already slipped away.

However, at least it is confirmed today that after reaching this high ground, there are indeed traces of large wild animals.

And since buffalo dung can be found here, at least it indicates buffalo do move around on this grassy slope.

Li Younan is not discouraged, but today’s search ends here.

He must hurry back, if delayed any longer, the time to get back to camp will be somewhat late.

And if he hasn’t returned to the shelter before dark, it will cause some trouble.

However, Li Younan still doesn’t plan to return empty-handed; on the way back he gathered quite a bit of tuber and fungi from this area.

During training, instructors repeatedly emphasized for participants not to eat mushrooms around the lakeshore because many toxic mushrooms differ subtly from edible ones.

If one doesn’t have professional botanical knowledge, it’s difficult to identify those toxic mushrooms.

Once mistakenly eaten, some highly toxic mushrooms may lead to not holding out until rescue personnel arrive.

Bear in mind the program crew only has a camp near Chilco Lake, with limited rescue means.

Once poisoned, it could likely cause a significant safety issue.

Thus when Li Younan gathered these mushrooms, he didn’t bother filming them, lest the program crew warn him.

As for the risk of poisoning, for him naturally, it isn’t a concern.

The judgment ability granted to him is incredibly exceptional, even with two almost identical mushrooms, he can easily discern the difference.

He even knows clearly what conditions render the toxicity of some mushrooms inactive.

These mushrooms can supply high-quality carbohydrates and proteins, and can be used as two extra meals.

If lucky next, he could catch a mountain chicken, then chicken stew with mushrooms — just imagine, mouth-watering.

Just as Li Younan was heading back, he found another pleasant plant — wild onions.

Its scientific name in Canada is meadow garlic.

In previous seasons of the show, some participants had found these too.

He excitedly turned on the camera and explained to everyone: ”Folks, look what I’ve discovered? This is meadow garlic! Let me briefly introduce this plant — the whole thing has an onion flavor.”

”Oh, our luck is amazing, this is a fresh wild onion.”

”Look here, the tender leaves can replace chives, flower buds are edible too.”

”This season is its best flavor time, let’s search the vicinity to see if there are more wild onions.”

With Li Younan’s search, he dug up seven or eight wild onion plants.
