Goat milk?

In fact, Li Younan doesn’t really like drinking goat milk.

Compared to cows, goats have a strong gamey smell.

Of course, the gamey smell of this goat milk is much less compared to the goats themselves.

While some people can get used to the taste, Li Younan isn’t very fond of it.

Compared to female goats, the gamey smell of male goats is indeed stronger.

Female goats have less developed sweat glands than male goats, so their gamey smell is more tolerable.

Li Younan put the female goat in the basket in front of him.

Since Li Younan has slaughtering skills, he is very familiar with the structure of animals’ bodies and can be very precise when slaughtering them. If he applies this ability to other situations, such as the current one, he can effectively avoid further injuries to the female goat.

Li Younan speculates that the young goat might have accidentally fallen from the valley, causing the mother goat to panic, attempting to save her kid, or she simply jumped down after it.

Of course, it could also be because of a wild animal chasing them, like the small coyote he saw earlier.

But truth be told, for stone goats, climbing such steep slopes shouldn’t be overly dangerous—90 degrees is a wall, while 89 degrees is a slope for them.

So, this female goat is truly quite unfortunate.

It seems the mother goat can sense that Li Younan doesn’t intend to harm her. After Li Younan buried the young goat, she stopped struggling and let him place her in the basket.

The upcoming climb poses a certain challenge for Li Younan.

Although the female goat is not that heavy, and her injuries prevent her from struggling too much, Li Younan still took the precaution of finding a stick nearby to secure her further before starting to climb up the valley.

Being a top-notch climber, this valley, though steep, offers more footing spots in width and grip points compared to the artificially created routes in climbing clubs.

Li Younan chose a relatively gentle path and spent about ten minutes successfully climbing up the valley with the female goat.

The moment he reached the top, the female goat became noticeable agitated, seemingly wanting to break free and escape.

As soon as she began to struggle in the basket, Li Younan gave her a firm tap on the head, causing her to settle down considerably.

”Baaa...”

On the way back, Li Younan was in high spirits, and he couldn’t help but hum a little tune.

The trees here are quite tall, and there are fewer shrubs, with ample space between each tree, making it relatively easy to navigate through the forest.

Despite his great mood, Li Younan remained vigilant.

Besides keeping an eye out for any large wild animals that might appear, he also cautiously observed the surrounding environment details.

After all, in this wilderness, avoiding an attack from large animals but getting unexpectedly bitten by venomous insects or snakes would be quite a tragedy.

Fortunately, Li Younan’s skills as a zoologist allow him to effectively avoid the activity areas of these small deadly creatures.

He didn’t encounter any unexpected events on the majority of the return journey.

However, Li Younan was pondering another issue—according to his plan, the female goat in the basket was not meant to be eaten, so did that mean today’s trip yielded no meat?

Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, his gaze focused, and slowly nocked the arrow onto the bowstring.

Right in front of him, a short distance away, was a mountain chicken, and he felt a surge of delight.

This bird closely resembles the wild chickens native to China—a bird slightly smaller than a chicken, with vibrant plumage.

At the moment, the mountain chicken is about forty to fifty meters away from Li Younan. To ensure his arrow finds its mark, he decides to get a bit closer.

As he slows his steps, he opens a sports camera and softly says, ”Hey, look what we found—a moving roast chicken!”

He crouched down, holding his breath, inching closer carefully.

When he was about twenty to thirty meters away, the mountain chicken suddenly grew alert, looking around nervously.

Li Younan halted his steps and slowly raised the bow and arrow.

The mountain chicken surveyed its surroundings, seemingly not noticing Li Younan, or perhaps it thought that at this distance, Li Younan, as a mammal, posed no threat, and continued pecking at insects on the ground.

The next moment, Li Younan swiftly shot an arrow.

...

The female goat in the basket looked disdainfully at the mountain chicken placed atop it.

At the moment, the mountain chicken isn’t dead yet; it’s just been shot through the wing by Li Younan.

Faced with the mountain chicken, Li Younan was not as gentle as he was with the female goat. After shooting its wing, he ran over and broke its other wing, then thoughtfully used a piece of wood with a hole to clamp its beak, but he didn’t kill the mountain chicken immediately.

Any regular chicken handler knows that after slaughtering a chicken, the feathers need to be immediately scalded with hot water to make them easy to pluck, and the blood should be drained quickly as failing to do so affects the taste greatly.

Therefore, Li Younan planned to handle the mountain chicken back at camp later.
