Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Chapter 164: Chapter 101: Check-In Complete, Hotpot Restaurant Opens!

The days once again passed leisurely.

Li Younan’s renovation plan didn’t include painting, plumbing, or masonry work; he was entirely focused on dealing with a pile of wood.

Every day, he would come to the shop to do woodworking, carefully crafting each plank, gradually making them into part of the hotpot restaurant’s walls.

As time went on, the previously slightly shabby hotpot restaurant began to show a new look bit by bit.

Throughout this process, Chen Kunjie was always by his side, helping him film videos.

You see, Chen Kunjie studied fine arts, which shares many similarities with carving.

Li Younan was also quite skilled at sketching, after all, carving can be seen as a form of sketching to some extent.

However, when it came to systematic painting skills, he was somewhat lacking. Once it involved soft brushes, paint, and other such things, his actions became rather clumsy.

On the other hand, Chen Kunjie could not only carve various objects or directly create boards with unique shapes, but he often had sudden bursts of inspiration, taking up a bunch of paints to draw or add colors on them.

Of course, if the hotpot restaurant was made too garishly decorated, it wouldn’t look good. Using paint, which contains formaldehyde, wouldn’t be suitable for opening right away.

So they chose to apply only a layer of anti-oxidation paint and used paints to replace lacquer, which turned out much better.

Chen Kunjie certainly understood how to maintain that balance between being neither too flamboyant nor too plain, while still appearing fresh and beautiful.

The two worked together very smoothly, and the renovation progressed rapidly.

The two waitresses in the shop also started officially working.

During this time, with not many complicated tasks at hand, they helped around the shop doing odds and ends, like cleaning or moving things.

These two young ladies were from rural Chongqing, and both Chen Kunjie and Li Younan were quite good-looking. Occasionally chatting with them during the renovation would make the young ladies blush now and then.

They worked particularly diligently. If asked to help fetch a tool or sweep up the wood shavings on the floor, they would run like the wind.

Although their job was to be waitresses, before officially serving customers, they also had to help with food preparation in the mornings.

Both looked quite experienced, needing little reminder from Chen Kunjie.

They quickly became quite familiar with each other.

Li Younan’s work efficiency was extremely high, and in a matter of days, the hotpot restaurant had undergone a complete transformation.

Meanwhile, Chen Kunjie’s skills in crafting hotpot base became increasingly refined and mature.

During this time, tasting Chongqing hotpot naturally became a daily habit.

The ten hotpot restaurants on the punch card list posed quite a challenge for Li Younan at first.

After all, if someone grew up not eating much chili, their tolerance for spiciness would be relatively low.

Li Younan often found himself reaching for milk when overwhelmed by spiciness. However, with more attempts, he gradually grew fond of the unique sensation of spicy and flavorful stimulation on his taste buds, and the frequency of using hot water to rinse his food also decreased.

Seeing this, Chen Kunjie, who accompanied him to eat hotpot, felt very gratified and gently patted Li Younan on the shoulder, saying, ”You’re finally like a Sichuan person.”

Li Younan, meanwhile, took a big gulp of ice water and smirked, ”Heh.”

Things were going particularly smoothly, and just before Li Younan was about to finish renovating the shop, he successfully completed the punch card task.

This made Li Younan even more fond of his system.

The system didn’t set tasks requiring intense conflict but allowed the user to experience the unique aspects of a place in a leisurely manner.

Of course, these things weren’t necessarily the most representative or quintessential of the place but were indeed interesting.

Even the seemingly tedious tasks like sitting on a park bench for six hours or punching in at Duoyun Academy among the tasks Li Younan completed were actually quite enjoyable.

Due to such task settings, Li Younan didn’t have to constantly chase after the system’s punch card tasks and was always able to maintain a relaxed, carefree mindset.

If a trip is undertaken with overly strong objectives, it often destroys the atmosphere of traveling, and Li Younan is very concerned with the atmospheric feel of the travel process.

Next came the reward stage for the punch card task.

[Punch card completed!]

[Random reward in progress...]

[Chess skill +1]

[Chess Skill lv.1: Whether it’s Chinese chess or international chess, you can compete with top players... although you’ll most likely lose, other than top players, no one else is likely to beat you.]

Normally, Li Younan also played chess but hadn’t formally studied it systematically.

His chess playing relied more on his own calculations, whereas for a truly professional chess player, memorizing chess strategies was a fundamental skill.

There are only so many opening moves in chess, and the diverse tactics that evolve from each opening move are brilliantly and comprehensively recorded in various chess strategies.

Once Li Younan acquired this skill, his mind was instantly filled with various chess strategies.

He then somewhat understood the meaning of being able to compete with top chess players as mentioned in the skill description.

Though he now had vast knowledge of chess strategies, his calculation ability was still at a level typical of a regular science student. Only during the middle or end game, when the situation changes less, could he truly utilize this skill’s advantage.

If he could predict every move from the start, that would be the level of a master or even a legendary player.
