Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 857: Chapter 631: Islandwide Mobilization (Part 2)

The success of a son is the greatest motivation for a father.

He hopes his son can become a Martial Artist at fifteen, because then his son can go to college, and once he graduates, he will surely find a respectable job in the government as a Government Official, as a soldier in the Navy, or as a guard in a commercial company.

Especially joining the Navy, it has always been his dream.

Unfortunately, he no longer has the opportunity to realize this dream, but his eldest son has a chance to fulfill his dream.

Thinking of his eldest son joining the Navy in the future, Gao Qinghai felt a surge of warmth in his heart, and worked more vigorously.

Just as Gao Qinghai was working hard in the fields, the village’s bronze bell suddenly rang urgently.

“Dad, Dad, the village bell is ringing!”

His younger son, who was helping beside him, heard the bell and quickly shouted to Gao Qinghai.

Gao Qinghai put down the plow and looked towards the village direction, many villagers around had already dropped their tools and ran towards the village. He too dared not delay and shouted to his younger son: “Drive the cattle home, Dad will go back and take a look first!”

“Okay! Dad, you should hurry up!” The younger son was curious about what was happening in the village and urged his father to return quickly.

Without wasting any words, Gao Qinghai ran while lowering his trousers, and within half an hour, he was back in the village.

At this moment, more than two hundred strong men had already gathered on the square in front of the village school, all of them in their twenties and thirties, the Martial Arts instructor stood in front of them waiting, surrounded by many women and children watching curiously.

The village bell has many uses, it rings during school hours, the village head also rings it to gather villagers, but the rhythm and sound are different.

The bell sound to gather young men is urgent and loud, continuously ringing for a long time, making it easy to identify.

However, this kind of bell sound for gathering young men hadn’t rung for many years, the last time was eight years ago, when the Star Moon Island navy dealt with Desheng Dynasty, and the government organized young men to help transport supplies.

“What’s going on?” Gao Qinghai arrived at the square and asked the neighbors.

“It might be a war, didn’t they say the Navy has already blocked the northern sea route a few days ago?” the neighbor replied.

“Really? Does that mean we are going out to sea again?” Gao Qinghai’s eyes brightened.

Joining the Navy was his dream, and while he certainly could not achieve it, going out to sea with the Navy to fight would be a dream come true experience.

Moreover, going out to sea as logistics labor would also earn a lot of silver, one sea trip would earn him as much as half a year’s harvest from the fields.

“Probably!” the neighbor replied uncertainly.

At this moment, the Martial Arts instructor standing in front cleared his throat and shouted, “Attention!”

More than two hundred young men immediately stood straight as reflex.

“Align to the right!”

“Look forward!”

“Count off!”

“One”

“Two”

“Three”

Soon all the young men finished counting, Beihenan Village registered three hundred twelve people, with two hundred fifty-six present, those absent were likely working elsewhere.

Many tasks at the port require young labor, and village young men often run there to work.

The Martial Arts instructor didn’t mind, and directly started the briefing: “According to the government’s instructions, from today onwards, there might be foreign enemies invading our Star Moon Island, the government orders all young men from each village and town to prepare for battle!”

“From now on, all villages and towns are under military control, all matters adhere to the government’s instructions, understand?”

“Understood!”

All young men responded loudly.

“Good! Now go and receive your weapons.” The Martial Arts instructor said calmly.

No weapons were banned on Star Moon Island, each household had some, but those were personal belongings, if the government required them for battle, the government would provide the weapons.

The government had established armories in each village and town, with ample weapons inside.

Of course, these armaments were not top-quality, just the common long spears and big knives.

Although Star Moon Island is affluent, it’s not extravagant enough to equip every person with a Divine weapon.

Gao Qinghai quickly received his weaponry, a vine shield, a waist saber, and four javelins.

He was the vine shield handler in his small team.

Yang Zhenshan, having written the Training Soldiers Chronicles, naturally wouldn’t forget Commander Qi’s Yuan Yang Formation.

However, previously he led soldiers in Chongshan Town, primarily focusing on Cavalry, thus the Yuan Yang Formation’s power couldn’t be fully utilized.

Later, in Tenglong Guard, he trained Camp Soldiers mainly in Cavalry too, hence he didn’t use Yuan Yang Formation.

But after coming to Star Moon Island, Yang Zhenshan popularized Yuan Yang Formation, incidentally modifying it into the Three Talents Formation and Five Elements Formation.

That is having vine shield handlers in front and spearmen behind, forming three-man and five-man formations.

The modifications had to be made as naval board-to-board combat usually has limited space, unsuitable for a squad of eleven men fighting together, dividing into three or five people is more appropriate.

And whether it is Yuan Yang Formation or Three Talents Formation and Five Elements Formation, the key lies in the mutual cooperation among soldiers.

However, Three Talents Formation and Five Elements Formation are skills required for Navy soldiers and fleet guards, whereas young men like Gao Qinghai only underwent Yuan Yang Formation training.

After receiving the weapons, Gao Qinghai immediately met his team members, the team underwent an hour of recovery training, and then each returned home.

The Gao family hadn’t split up, his parents were still around, no reason to split family now, but the three brothers each had their own courtyard, problem was the village built courtyards with three main rooms and two side rooms, unable to accommodate such a large family.

So, although they hadn’t split the family, they practically lived separately, much like splitting the family.

After greeting his parents, Gao Qinghai immediately ran back to his courtyard.

“Husband, is there going to be a war?” Lady Gao asked as she saw him return.

“Yes, the school instructor said foreign enemies might invade, we’re told to be prepared!” Gao Qinghai said while running to the bedroom, retrieving two long sabers from under the bed.

“Hold these first, in case enemies come, use them for self-defense.”

Lady Gao drew a saber, slashed twice casually, “Luckily I practice daily, haven’t neglected my martial arts!”

Lady Gao had also attended school and practiced Martial Arts, in fact, she was a genuine Martial Artist.

On Star Moon Island, there was a large group of female Martial Artists, but compared to men, their cultivation was much weaker, mainly due to getting married and having children, childbirth delays a year, once martial skills are neglected picking them up again is challenging.

So, women’s cultivation is far more difficult than men’s.

Lady Gao gave birth to five kids over ten years of marriage, maintaining daily practice is already quite remarkable.

“Haha, the lady is mighty!” Gao Qinghai praised.

Lady Gao rolled her eyes, “It’s getting late, I’ll go cook!”

She knew her own abilities best, although she hadn’t neglected practice, her combat power was not much different from ordinary women.

After all, she had never actually seen blood.

Nonetheless, she wasn’t too worried, she was aware of Star Moon Island’s strength, plus there’s the Island Master’s protection, those enemies definitely aren’t the Island Master’s match.

Indeed, they had confidence in Yang Zhenshan, believing as long as Yang Zhenshan was around, Star Moon Island would be safe.

This was why Yang Zhenshan wanted to mobilize all the young men on the island.

The islanders lacked a sense of crisis, probably because the Yang family’s protection was too good, causing them to think the world was peaceful.

Thus Yang Zhenshan truly hoped Divine Wood Island and Taro Dynasty’s Navy would attack Star Moon Island, to warn these islanders and make them realize this is a brutal ocean.

Only after experiencing bloodshed would they treasure the peace they have more, only after experiencing life and death would they strive harder in their cultivation.
