I Married the President

Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Don’t Mention That Bastard to Me

Even though Jasmine Sinclair knew the old man was just trying to sweet-talk her, she still enjoyed hearing it. ”Since I’m the prettier one, are you still going to go hit on that woman?”

’Jasmine Sinclair is beautiful, sure, but she’s terribly short-sighted. If I hadn’t chosen her for being young, having a great body, and being obedient, I never would have married such a stupid woman.’

Despite his disdain, Hugh Carson patiently explained, ”Jasmine, that’s no ordinary woman. Her name is Claire Sinclair, the top reporter for the *Astoria Daily*. She’s not only backed by Quincy Manor, but she’s also Ethan Kingsley’s rumored girlfriend. As long as we get on good terms with her, it opens up connections to the *Astoria Daily*, Quincy Manor, and the Kingsley Family. Do you understand?”

Jasmine Sinclair was utterly stunned by what he said.

’In just over half a year, that damn bitch Claire has actually managed to climb to such a position. And look at me—I just ended up marrying a rich but unromantic old man.’

’Damn it!’

’Claire, you almost ruined my life, and now you dare to act all high and mighty in front of me? Just you wait, I’ll show you!’

Jasmine Sinclair was going mad with jealousy, wishing she could grind Claire Sinclair under her heel. Forcing a calm expression, she said, ”Oh, so that’s how it is. Carson, Claire Sinclair is a young woman. It wouldn’t look good for you to just go over and ask her. Why don’t I go get her phone number for you?”

”That works. After all, we’re married, so it’s more appropriate for you to approach her.” Hugh Carson was convinced. ”Jasmine, you have to do your best, okay? For our future.”

”Okay, I’m on my way!” Jasmine Sinclair swayed her hips, striding toward Claire Sinclair in her five-inch heels.

’Heh heh...’

’He wants a phone number? Please. I still have that damn bitch’s number saved in my phone!’

After entering the main hall, Claire Sinclair headed straight for the backstage area.

In some respects, especially when she was alone, Claire Sinclair still suffered from mild social anxiety. She didn’t dare linger by herself in a crowded place and just wanted to get to the back area quickly, find a place to sit, and wait for him.

As she walked down the long red carpet, she could feel the intense gazes of those around her—some filled with envy, others with admiration, and still others with jealousy. It felt like being adored by thousands, yet it was all so ostentatious and vulgar.

Just as she was about to reach the entrance to the backstage area, someone unexpectedly blocked her path—

Jasmine Sinclair stood before her, her arrogant and vain gaze undisguised as she stared brazenly at Claire Sinclair’s stunning face.

”Claire Sinclair, I bet you didn’t expect to see me here. I’m at the state banquet too, you know.”

’What a moron.’

Claire Sinclair cursed inwardly but kept a polite smile on her face. Her gaze drifted, as if by accident, to Jasmine’s flat stomach. ”I certainly didn’t. To think Second Miss Sinclair would attend a banquet so soon after giving birth. You’ve kept your figure so well. Is someone at home helping with the baby?”

Without a doubt, the word ”baby” struck a nerve with Jasmine Sinclair, and she instantly flew into a rage.

”Shut up! Don’t you dare mention that bastard to me!” she hissed, trying her best to keep her voice down so no one else would hear.

After all, getting pregnant out of wedlock and having an abortion was a disgraceful affair in high society. Besides, her current husband had no idea she’d ever terminated a pregnancy.

To increase her own value, Jasmine Sinclair had undergone hymen restoration surgery not long after the abortion. Otherwise, why would an old man like Hugh Carson have even looked her way?

Claire Sinclair didn’t know what had happened to Jasmine afterward, but seeing such a strong reaction, she knew the baby must have been aborted.
