Ghost Catching System

At this moment, Chu Hao’s gaze was fixed on the balcony. Although it was very dark, the darkness didn’t hinder his vision at all. He finally spotted a furtive dark figure sneaking onto the balcony.

The figure grabbed a piece of underwear and sniffed it, its face full of surprise and delight.

Chu Hao said excitedly, ”It’s here.”

Lin Wan, of course, couldn’t see; she was too far away.

Chu Hao took out the True Word Brush, a finely crafted tool. He skillfully chanted a spell and wrote the character for ’Imprison.’

This character sealed the space between Heaven and Earth; it was a very strong enchantment.

Chu Hao sealed the ground to prevent the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit from escaping by burrowing.

The vigilant Polygonum multiflorum Spirit felt a ripple of energy and reacted strongly, immediately turning to run.

However, when the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit tried to burrow underground, it was bounced back up. It panicked.

The toad, squatting in the bushes, was excited by the scene. Indeed, only by cooperating with Chu Hao could he catch this Polygonum multiflorum Spirit! The toad, long famished and parched, pounced with incredible speed, its wide mouth opening to bite the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit.

Seeing this, Chu Hao was furious. That toad really is trying to hog the catch!

The Polygonum multiflorum Spirit couldn’t burrow underground, but it was still incredibly fast. Startled by the toad’s sudden appearance, the spirit dropped the underwear and turned to run.

The toad missed its leap and was extremely annoyed. ”Don’t run!”

Chu Hao also gave chase, using the True Word Brush to write the character for ’Swiftness.’ His speed instantly increased severalfold, turning him into a gust of wind and even causing the air to erupt with a ROAR. Am I almost reaching the speed of sound?

Lin Wan saw Chu Hao disappear on the spot. Her ears buzzed from the shock of his speed, her mouth agape.

Chu Hao’s current speed was incredible. It wasn’t quite the speed of sound, but before the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit could even react, Chu Hao had grabbed it and thrown it directly into the Demon-catching Mirror.

”Got it!” Chu Hao said with a beaming smile.

At that moment, the toad finally lunged, snapping at Chu Hao’s wrist in an attempt to snatch the Demon-catching Mirror.

Chu Hao was well-prepared and showed no mercy, bringing the Ritian Stick down with a forceful blow. The toad puffed up its cheeks, its belly swelling like a rubber ball, deflecting the Ritian Stick and bouncing it back.

Chu Hao couldn’t help but step back, cursing, ”Warty Toad, trying to snatch it again!”

The toad looked at him with pleading eyes. ”Why don’t you put me in the Demon-catching Mirror too?”

Chu Hao packed up the Ritian Stick and the Demon-catching Mirror, then turned to leave, saying, ”Go play somewhere else.”

The toad was helpless; it knew it had overstepped this time. Its attempt to monopolize the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit had failed, and it had been outmaneuvered by this kid.

「Back in the dormitory」

Li Yin and his two roommates weren’t there; they had gone out for an all-night gaming session. They had invited Chu Hao, but he hadn’t had time to go.

Inside the dormitory, Chu Hao took out the True Word Brush, sealed the surroundings, and then released the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit.

The tiny creature, about the size of two palms, had a woody body resembling a chubby little person, complete with eyes and nostrils. Once released, it immediately tried to run but collided with the seal.

Chu Hao stroked his chin. ”Now, how should we divide this thing?”

The toad drooled, wary that the little spirit might suddenly pounce. ”Is there even a need to ask? Cut it in half!”

Upon hearing this, the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit shivered in the corner, utterly despaired. If only it had known, it would never have left its mountain!

Chu Hao said, ”Just cutting it in half is boring. Why not catch a snake, a wild pheasant, or a Yellow Weasel and make a stew?”

Actually, the wild Polygonum multiflorum exuded an enticing aroma, making it perfect as an ingredient.

The toad declared, ”This Emperor also thinks that’s an excellent idea! I’ll go catch an old hen right now.”

The Polygonum multiflorum Spirit was so frightened it fell over with a THUD and fainted.

When the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit came to, it saw the man and the toad gathered around an induction cooker, stewing an old hen. It fainted once more.

The stewed hen was almost ready; it was time to slice the Polygonum multiflorum.

At that moment, a strong wind picked up outside, whipping against the windows and making them rattle violently.

The wind was unsettlingly strong. Chu Hao closed the window. Just then, someone knocked at the door.

He thought it was Li Yin and the others returning. But when he opened the door, he saw a little girl about 1.3 meters tall, dressed in red with a purple cloak draped over her shoulders.

She looked to be about eight or nine years old, exquisitely pretty as if carved from jade, with bright, sparkling eyes like twinkling little stars. She had a ponytail and carried a large gourd on her back—a gourd nearly as big as herself, round and looking quite comical.

Chu Hao was taken aback. ”Who are you looking for?”

The little girl peered in, pointed to the unconscious Polygonum multiflorum Spirit, and said in a sweet, childish voice, ”I’m looking for Little Wu.”

Little Wu?

Seeing her point to the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit, it was clear she knew it.

Chu Hao sized up the little girl. She isn’t a Demon or a Ghost; she’s a living person.

Chu Hao asked doubtfully, ”You know this Polygonum multiflorum Spirit?”

”It’s my pet,” the little girl said in her sweet, childish voice. ”What are you trying to do to Little Wu?”

Chu Hao was immediately displeased. He wasn’t about to release the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit just because of what this girl said. ”I caught it,” he stated.

The little girl glanced at Chu Hao and snorted. ”It’s the one I raised! What right do you have to catch it?”

The Toad Spirit hopped over. Finding the exquisitely pretty little girl very cute, his eyes gleamed. ”Little girl,” he croaked, ”if you want a share, just say so. Don’t leave tonight; stay and warm my bed.”

Chu Hao was somewhat speechless. This rogue Toad Spirit speaks so shamelessly! Isn’t he afraid of scaring the little girl? And ’warm my bed’? Does he have any sense of decency at all?

To his surprise, the little girl didn’t seem afraid at all when she saw the Toad Spirit speak.

Unexpectedly, the exquisitely pretty little girl also had quite a temper. She was adorable when angry. Pouting, she retorted fiercely, ”Toad Spirit, if you dare eat Little Wu, I’ll burn you!”

The Toad Spirit cursed, ”Damn it! Where did this wild brat come from, daring to threaten to burn This Emperor?”

The little girl took the large gourd off her back. She seemed to be talking to it, patting the round gourd twice before removing the stopper.

Then, an unbelievable scene unfolded.

A fierce wind erupted from the gourd, whipping through the room and making everything creak and strain. All the bunk beds and piles of luggage were tossed about.

However, in less than a second, everything in the room—including the Toad Spirit—was sucked into the gourd.

Chu Hao stared, dumbfounded. Seeing the little girl grab the Polygonum multiflorum Spirit and turn to leave, he quickly shouted, ”Wait a minute!”

The exquisitely pretty little girl turned, her sweet, childish voice asking, ”Do you want to be sucked in too?”

Damn it!

Who on earth is this little girl? The Toad Spirit was actually sucked away! That large gourd... it gives me a very dangerous feeling.

Chu Hao asked seriously, ”Who are you?”

The little girl secured the gourd on her back and lifted her head. Her small, fair face, exquisite as if carved from jade, met his gaze. ”My name is Zi Jing.”

Chu Hao couldn’t let Zi Jing take the Toad Spirit. He said, ”Let the Toad Spirit out, and I’ll let you take Little Wu.”

Zi Jing shook her head. ”If Zi Jing says she’ll cook the Toad Spirit, she’ll do it.”

Chu Hao was speechless. The Toad Spirit really is unlucky to have encountered such a bizarre little girl. He then said, ”That’s not acceptable. I won’t let you take him.”

Zi Jing shook her head again, her voice sweet and childish. ”Big brother, you’re no match for me.”

Chu Hao: ”...”
