Ghost Catching System

The Underworld is extremely strict. Matters such as lifespan in the Book of Life and Death are no longer within the scope of what a Judgment Officer can access.

Chu Hao said, ”What are the benefits of registering as a Yin-Yang Person?”

The Judgment Officer said, ”First, by helping the Underworld catch wanted ghosts, you can earn Merit. This Merit will play a significant role in your future prospects.”

The Judgment Officer said, ”Second, you can use Merit to purchase some of the Underworld’s treasures. This is a privilege exclusive to Yin-Yang Persons.”

The Judgment Officer said, ”Third, you are eligible to take exams to join departments within the Underworld.”

Chu Hao was stunned and asked, ”What does it mean to take exams to join the Underworld’s departments?”

Biting its tongue, the Judgment Officer replied in a sharp voice, ”You are eligible to join the departments of the Underworld, managing certain affairs and receiving generous compensation. Of course, you need to pass the examinations first.”

You could even join the ranks of the Ghost Officiants and Judges—that is, to hold an official position in the Underworld. Wow, I never knew there was such a thing.

Chu Hao was somewhat surprised. ”With such great benefits from the Underworld, what do I need to do?”

The Judgment Officer replied, ”Nothing is required. Yin-Yang Persons register voluntarily. The Underworld simply facilitates things for Yin Yang Masters in the Human World, so they can help deal with threats from time to time, and in return, you will be rewarded. As for your affairs in the Human World, the Underworld will not interfere. However, everything will be settled after your death.”

Whichever genius came up with this idea, it’s quite creative.

Chu Hao asked, ”How many Yin Yang Masters in the Human World have joined the Underworld’s departments?”

The Judgment Officer indifferently replied, ”You have no right to know.”

Chu Hao asked, ”Then, are there any who do not register as a Yin-Yang Person?”

The Judgment Officer looked at Chu Hao and nodded, ”Yes.”

So there are people who don’t register as Yin-Yang Persons. Why don’t they register?

Chu Hao nodded and said, ”I’ll register.”

The Judgment Officer spread its hand, and a dark, dull book appeared.

The Judgment Officer said, ”Sign your name on it and stamp your handprint, and you will be an officially registered Yin-Yang Person of the Underworld.”

This is a very modern way of registering.

Chu Hao opened the book and discovered many more words inside. In essence, it stated that as an Underworld Yin-Yang Human, he had the right to enter and leave the Underworld at will, whether as a soul or in his physical body, without any restrictions from the Underworld.

Chu Hao also remembered the saying that when one’s physical body first entered the Underworld, their soul would be lost after seven days. This contract, it seemed, would resolve such troubles.

Additionally, the Underworld would intermittently release tasks, all of which involved helping it deal with wanted Fierce Ghosts in the Human World, among other things.

Whether to take on tasks is up to you; the system is very flexible and user-friendly.

The Judgment Officer took out a black token about the size of a palm and said, ”This is the Legitimacy Token for a Yin-Yang Person. Infuse it with True Qi, and you will activate it. Then you can see your own ranking and some tasks issued by the Underworld for wanted criminals.”

Chu Hao asked, ”What is the ranking on it based on?”

The Judgment Officer replied, ”Rankings based on completed tasks and rankings based on tests of strength.”

Chu Hao asked, ”Where do I go for the test?”

The Judgment Officer truthfully answered, ”To the Underworld for testing. There is one opportunity each year. You can inquire for more details.”

Chu Hao said, ”Will the Underworld still award Merit for eliminating the Black Water Ghost King?”

The Judgment Officer nodded and said, ”Yes.”

The Judgment Officer took out a black book, ancient in appearance, like the Book of Life and Death itself. It found Chu Hao’s name in it and wrote something down with a pen.

Chu Hao immediately felt a surge of energy infuse his body, and an additional piece of information appeared on the Legitimacy Token in his hand.

Chu Hao: 10,000 Underworld Merit.

The Judgment Officer put away the ancient book and said, ”If you have any further questions, you can get in touch using the Legitimacy Token. A Ghost Officiant will provide answers.”

With that, billowing black smoke rose from beneath its feet, and the Judgment Officer disappeared, leaving the room as it was.

Chu Hao held the Legitimacy Token in his hand. Is it really as magical as it seems?

This black token was about the size of a mobile phone. It was made from some unknown, dark, and inscrutable material.

”For real?”

Chu Hao channeled True Qi into the black Legitimacy Token, which flashed for a moment, revealing a line of text: Welcome to the Underworld Legitimacy Mobile Phone.

Holy crap! Is this thing seriously an Underworld mobile phone?

Chu Hao had been to Fengdu before, so it wasn’t his first time seeing ghosts use mobile phones.

It was similar to mobile phones used in the Human World, with functions like tasks, ranking, consultation, Merit, purchase, and so on.

Chu Hao opened the Merit section and saw his name with 10,000 Underworld Merit Points displayed.

The consultation function, needless to say, was for asking Ghost Officiants questions about Yin-Yang Persons.

Chu Hao then opened the ranking to see his name listed at 36,781st place. He wondered if his eyes were deceiving him and exclaimed, ”What’s going on here? Didn’t Lan Zhen say we only have 105 Inborn Experts here?”

Thirty-six thousand seven hundred eighty-first... such a number is just too exaggerated.

Chu Hao noticed there was prompt text in the lower-left corner.

”Yin-Yang Persons have been included in the overall Underworld rankings, integrating the rankings of Ghost Cultivators, Ghost Demons, Fierce Ghosts, Demons, and so on.”

The overall Underworld ranking... that means most of the names listed are from the Underworld.

Scrolling up, Chu Hao realized he could only see the names within ten ranks above and below his own; other names were not visible.

For example, the name right before his was Black Dragon (Snake Demon King).

Damn! If it hadn’t specified ’Snake Demon King,’ I would have almost thought this fellow was an actual Dragon.

Looking further up, Chu Hao didn’t recognize anyone; most of them were names of Ghost Cultivators.

Chu Hao tapped on consultation and was quickly connected to a Ghost Officiant through the Underworld mobile phone.

A female voice came through, saying, ”Hello, may I ask what you would like to consult about?”

Impressive. This consultation service is truly professional.

Chu Hao asked, ”Why are Ghost Demons and Fierce Ghosts included in the rankings?”

The consulting Ghost Officiant answered, ”The Fierce Ghosts and Ghost Demons listed in the ranking are considered legal existences by the Underworld.”

Freaking hell, even these creatures are legal? Same as me.

”Do you have any other questions?”

Chu Hao said, ”No, that’s all.”

After hanging up the consultation call, Chu Hao opened the tasks and saw quite a few, mostly Underworld tasks.

Task: ”Capture the wanted Ghost Cultivator Zhao Nan to obtain 5,000 Merit.”

Task: ”Proceed to the Land of the Vast Ancient to support XXX against the Foreign Ghost Army and obtain 3,000 Merit.”

There were many other tasks. Their descriptions might seem simple, but they were actually very dangerous, requiring one to risk their life for completion.

Chu Hao noticed another option in the bottom-left corner of the tasks: Mundane Tasks.

A new interface popped up. Below were the Human World tasks, such as capturing a certain Fierce Ghost, assisting a Ghost Officiant, and so on.

Chu Hao did not find any tasks related to capturing Demons. This made sense; Demons aren’t under the Underworld’s jurisdiction. If they were included in tasks, it would imply the Underworld had strong opinions about Demons.

However, even if Demons aren’t governed by the Underworld, they surely have to report there after death. At that time, the evil ones will definitely be held accountable.

Chu Hao browsed some of the tasks. Fierce Ghosts like the Black Water Ghost King were rare in the Human World, but there were still some exceptionally dangerous entities.

Task: ”Slay the Golden-Wood Drought Demon to obtain 20,000 Underworld Merit Points.”

Golden-Wood Drought Demon description: ”A dual-elemental Drought Fiend of immeasurable power. It once slaughtered 40,000 people and killed 1,700 Underworld Yin Soldiers. Extremely dangerous.”

The Golden-Wood Drought Demon is a task. Lan Zhen must have seen this and wanted to team up.

Twenty thousand Underworld Merit Points; that Golden-Wood Drought Demon is quite formidable.
