THE FORGOTTEN LADY'S LITTLE FARM

Chapter 82: Chapter Eighty: The Beacon That Should Never Shine

The golden light inside the tower grew brighter.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

BOOM.

A pulse of energy spread across the valley.

Every Heartline symbol lit up.

The settlement fell silent.

Children stopped playing.

Farmers dropped their tools.

The old woman who had brought Lin Yue there turned pale.

”No...”

Lin Yue immediately looked around.

”What happens when the beacon activates?”

The woman whispered:

”The Cartographer finds us.”

Shen Rui stepped closer.

”How long do we have?”

”We don’t know.”

Lin Yue’s expression became focused.

”Then we don’t waste time.”

The woman looked at her.

”What are you going to do?”

Lin Yue pointed toward the settlement.

”First, we establish whether anyone is in immediate danger.”

She pointed toward the tower.

”Second, we determine why the beacon activated.”

Then toward the outer fields.

”Third, we secure the settlement’s exits.”

Shen Rui understood immediately.

”And if the Cartographer comes?”

Lin Yue looked toward the mountains.

”Then we’ll deal with that when we have evidence he’s actually coming.”

The woman stared at her.

”You aren’t afraid?”

Lin Yue smiled faintly.

”Oh, I’m afraid.”

She tightened the strap on her field pack.

”I just don’t let fear make my decisions.”

Emergency Protocol

The settlement leaders gathered in the central square.

Lin Yue listened.

Not commanded.

Listened.

That was something she had learned in her previous life.

When entering an unfamiliar environment—

you didn’t assume you understood it better than the people who lived there.

You asked questions.

”How many people live here?”

”18,763.”

”Children?”

”Approximately four thousand.”

”Water?”

”Three wells and the river.”

”Food?”

”Enough for approximately six months.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”Medical supplies?”

The woman hesitated.

”Limited.”

”Shelter?”

”Most families have permanent homes.”

”Emergency shelters?”

”Seven.”

”Good.”

Lin Yue immediately looked at Shen Rui.

”We need to check them.”

He nodded.

”I’ll take the northern ones.”

”I’ll take the eastern shelters.”

”No.”

He stopped.

Lin Yue smiled.

”Together.”

He raised an eyebrow.

”You don’t trust me?”

”I trust you completely.”

She took his hand.

”That’s exactly why I want you beside me.”

His expression softened.

”Then together.”

The Old Survival Blogger Returns

They moved quickly.

But they didn’t panic.

Lin Yue remembered filming emergency preparedness videos during her previous life.

She had once told millions of viewers:

When something unexpected happens, don’t become part of the emergency.

She repeated the principle now.

”Everyone stays calm.”

”Don’t crowd the wells.”

”Don’t gather near the beacon.”

”Keep children inside the central settlement.”

”Prepare food and water.”

”Check injuries.”

”Do not leave alone.”

Her instructions spread through the settlement.

People obeyed.

Not because she was their leader.

Because her reasoning made sense.

Shen Rui watched her.

There was something different about Lin Yue now.

She wasn’t simply the woman he loved.

She was someone who became sharper when circumstances became dangerous.

He admired that.

But more importantly—

he trusted it.

The Water Check

Lin Yue inspected the main well.

Aster scanned it.

WATER QUALITY: STABLE.

She checked the second.

WATER QUALITY: STABLE.

The third—

WARNING.

Lin Yue frowned.

”What changed?”

Aster answered:

”Unknown energy contamination detected.”

Lin Yue immediately stopped the workers.

”Don’t use this well.”

The settlement’s water keeper stared at her.

”But we’ve used it for generations.”

”I understand.”

Lin Yue knelt.

She collected a sample.

”Which is why we need to know what’s changed before anyone drinks it.”

Shen Rui looked into the well.

”Could the beacon have caused it?”

”Possibly.”

Lin Yue looked toward the tower.

”Or something underneath the settlement.”

The Hidden Network

They returned to the tower.

The golden energy continued pulsing.

Aster projected a diagram.

The beacon wasn’t simply broadcasting upward.

Its energy traveled underground.

Across the entire settlement.

Then—

beyond it.

Lin Yue watched the lines spread.

”It’s connected to the old network.”

The settlement elder nodded.

”The Heartline Network.”

”How far does it reach?”

”We don’t know.”

Aster answered:

”Potential range exceeds current mapping capacity.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”So when the beacon activated...”

”It may have activated every surviving node.”

Shen Rui looked at the map.

”How many?”

Aster paused.

UNKNOWN.

Then—

new points appeared.

One.

Five.

Twenty.

Hundreds.

Lin Yue’s eyes widened.

”Those aren’t Cartographer signals.”

”No.”

”Those are Heartline settlements.”

The elder whispered:

”They’re alive.”

The Lost Worlds

One by one—

the map revealed hidden locations.

A settlement beneath a desert.

A farming community inside a mountain valley.

A floating city above the clouds.

A forest civilization.

An underwater settlement.

A ruined coastal kingdom.

And dozens more.

All connected.

All hidden.

All waiting.

Lin Yue stared.

For centuries—

they had thought themselves alone.

But they weren’t.

The Heartline World was much larger than anyone had imagined.

Shen Rui looked at her.

”What are you thinking?”

She smiled.

”We’ve been trying to find the missing settlement.”

She pointed toward the map.

”We just found an entire civilization network.”

The Cost of Being Found

The elder’s expression remained grim.

”And now they may all be exposed.”

Lin Yue stopped smiling.

”What exactly does the Cartographer do?”

The elder answered:

”He doesn’t conquer.”

”Then what?”

”He measures.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”Measures what?”

”Population.”

”Resources.”

”Magical capacity.”

”Technological development.”

”Environmental stability.”

”Potential.”

Lin Yue slowly understood.

”He decides which worlds are dangerous.”

”Yes.”

”And the ones he considers dangerous?”

The elder looked toward the mountains.

”They disappear.”

Silence filled the room.

Lin Yue’s Question

”How?”

The elder shook his head.

”We never saw it happen.”

”Then how do you know?”

”Because worlds stopped answering.”

Lin Yue studied the map.

Some points were dark.

Completely dark.

She pointed.

”Those?”

”Lost.”

”How many?”

The elder looked away.

”Too many.”

Lin Yue’s fingers tightened.

Shen Rui noticed.

He quietly placed his hand over hers.

She looked at him.

He didn’t say anything.

He didn’t need to.

A Memory From Earth

For a moment—

Lin Yue remembered her old life.

A wilderness expedition.

A mountain community threatened by a landslide.

She had once spent days helping villagers evacuate.

People had been frightened.

Some refused to leave.

Others didn’t know where to go.

She remembered telling them:

You don’t save everyone by pretending the danger isn’t there.

You save them by understanding the danger early enough to act.

The same principle applied now.

She looked at the map.

”Then we need information.”

The elder nodded.

”What kind?”

”Everything.”

”That’s impossible.”

Lin Yue smiled.

”I used to run a wilderness survival channel.”

He looked confused.

Shen Rui laughed.

”She means she’s very good at collecting information.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”Exactly.”

The Expedition Changes

Their original expedition had been simple.

Find the first settlement.

Investigate the Silent Continent.

Return home.

Now—

everything had changed.

Lin Yue looked at the map.

”We can’t explore randomly anymore.”

Shen Rui nodded.

”We need priorities.”

”Yes.”

She began writing.

1. FIND ACTIVE HEARTLINE NODES. 2. IDENTIFY SAFE ROUTES. 3. DETERMINE CARTOGRAPHER ACTIVITY. 4. SECURE FOOD AND WATER. 5. ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION. 6. FIND OUT WHO CONTROLS THE NETWORK. 7. PROTECT THE SETTLEMENT.

She paused.

Then added one final line.

8. FIND THE ORIGINAL KEEPER.

Shen Rui looked at her.

”You think she’s alive?”

Lin Yue looked at the map.

”I think someone wants me to believe she is.”

The Cartographer’s First Move

Aster suddenly sounded an alarm.

EXTERNAL SIGNAL DETECTED.

Everyone froze.

Lin Yue looked up.

”Where?”

Aster projected the sky.

A thin line of white light appeared above the mountains.

Then another.

Then another.

They formed a perfect geometric pattern.

The elder whispered:

”No.”

Shen Rui reached for his weapon.

Lin Yue stopped him.

”Wait.”

The pattern changed.

It wasn’t an attack.

It was a map.

A three-dimensional map of the valley.

Every house.

Every field.

Every person.

Lin Yue’s face hardened.

”They’re scanning us.”

The elder whispered:

”The Cartographer.”

The Decision

People began panicking.

Lin Yue stepped into the square.

”Everyone, listen!”

The noise gradually stopped.

”Do not run into the forest.”

People stared.

”Do not gather at the gates.”

”Do not activate unknown magical devices.”

”Take children inside.”

”Store water.”

”Keep emergency supplies with you.”

The elder looked at her.

”Why aren’t you telling them to fight?”

Lin Yue answered quietly:

”Because we don’t know what we’re fighting.”

She looked toward the sky.

”And I refuse to send people into danger based on fear.”

Shen Rui stood beside her.

”We’ll find out what the scan is measuring.”

Into the Tower

Lin Yue and Shen Rui entered the beacon tower.

The energy was stronger inside.

A circular platform stood in the center.

A symbol appeared.

OBSERVER ACCESS.

Lin Yue stared.

”What does that mean?”

Aster replied:

”Your previous-life identity may provide authorization.”

She froze.

”My previous life?”

”Yes.”

”Why would my Earth identity matter?”

”Because the network identifies knowledge patterns.”

Shen Rui frowned.

”Knowledge patterns?”

Aster explained:

”Your previous-world survival archive is encoded within your memory.”

Lin Yue slowly understood.

The network wasn’t recognizing her face.

It was recognizing her experience.

Her knowledge.

Her way of thinking.

Her old wilderness training.

Her years of observation.

Her ability to read an unfamiliar environment.

The network recognized the person she had become.

The Old Camera

Lin Yue raised her camera.

The beacon reacted.

Golden light flowed toward it.

The screen activated.

OBSERVER ARCHIVE FOUND.

Then—

thousands of old photographs appeared.

Mountains.

Forests.

Rivers.

Camps.

Plants.

Animals.

Maps.

Survival notes.

Videos.

Her entire previous-life archive.

Shen Rui stared.

”You recorded all of that?”

”Years of it.”

”Why?”

Lin Yue smiled.

”Because I wanted people to learn.”

The beacon pulsed.

KNOWLEDGE PRESERVATION: CONFIRMED. FIELD EXPERIENCE: CONFIRMED. OBSERVER STATUS: RESTORED.

Lin Yue whispered:

”I’m not just the person who inherited the Golden Space.”

The beacon answered.

CORRECT.

A second message appeared.

YOU ARE THE OBSERVER.

The Hidden Door

The floor opened.

A staircase appeared.

It descended beneath the tower.

The elder stepped forward.

”No one has opened that in three hundred years.”

Lin Yue looked down.

”Then perhaps it wasn’t meant to open for anyone else.”

Shen Rui looked at her.

”You’re going down.”

”Yes.”

”I thought you’d say that.”

He followed.

Lumi hovered behind them.

”I’m coming too.”

Lin Yue smiled.

”Of course.”

Beneath Heartline One

The staircase descended far deeper than expected.

The walls changed.

Stone became metal.

Metal became crystal.

Crystal became something Lin Yue couldn’t identify.

At the bottom—

they found a chamber.

In its center stood a circular table.

On it—

was a single object.

A compass.

Lin Yue approached.

Her old wilderness instincts immediately noticed something strange.

The needle wasn’t pointing north.

It pointed toward her.

She picked it up.

The needle moved.

It pointed toward Shen Rui.

Then Lumi.

Then Aster.

Finally—

it pointed downward.

Lin Yue looked at the floor.

”What’s underneath us?”

Aster scanned.

DEPTH UNKNOWN. SIGNAL DETECTED. SOURCE: HEARTLINE ORIGIN.

Lin Yue’s heart raced.

”The origin.”

Shen Rui stepped beside her.

”The beginning of the network?”

”Maybe.”

The compass pulsed.

A voice echoed through the chamber.

Not the Cartographer.

Not the Original.

A woman’s voice.

Familiar.

Gentle.

And impossibly close.

”Lin Yue.”

She froze.

Shen Rui grabbed her hand.

The voice continued.

”If you can hear me...”

The compass opened.

Inside was a tiny recording.

The woman’s face appeared.

The First Keeper.

Lin Yue stared.

The woman smiled.

”I knew you would come.”

Lin Yue whispered:

”Who are you?”

The woman answered:

”I am not another version of you.”

She paused.

”I am the woman who watched your previous life.”

Lin Yue’s eyes widened.

The recording continued.

”I watched you learn.”

”I watched you explore.”

”I watched you teach millions of people about the wilderness.”

”I watched you die.”

Lin Yue’s breath caught.

”And I chose you.”

Shen Rui’s expression hardened.

”Why?”

The woman looked toward the camera.

”Because the Cartographer cannot understand what he cannot measure.”

Her eyes returned to Lin Yue.

”And Lin Yue...”

A faint smile appeared.

”You have spent your entire previous life learning how to survive where maps end.”

The recording flickered.

The final message appeared.

NEXT DESTINATION: THE PLACE WHERE THE FIRST MAP WAS DRAWN.

Lin Yue looked at the compass.

The needle turned.

Not north.

Not south.

Not east.

Not west.

It pointed straight through the floor.

Toward something beneath the world.

Shen Rui squeezed her hand.

”Ready?”

Lin Yue smiled.

The wilderness blogger awakened inside her once again.

”Always.”

Above them—

the Cartographer’s scan intensified.

And far beyond the mountains—

something answered.

To be continued...
