THE FORGOTTEN LADY'S LITTLE FARM

Chapter 75: Chapter Seventy-Three: The Choice of the Keeper

02:59:59

The countdown continued.

Lin Yue stared at the ancient control panel.

Two hours.

Fifty-nine minutes.

Fifty-nine seconds.

The numbers seemed strangely calm for something capable of changing the fate of the world.

Shen Rui stood beside her.

Their hands were still joined.

Neither had let go.

Lumi floated near the central crystal.

Aster continued scanning the chamber.

Seraphine watched them from within the ancient projection.

”You understand what is happening?”

Lin Yue nodded.

”The restoration system is preparing to release the ancient archives.”

”Yes.”

”And whoever activated it has Keeper-level authority.”

”Yes.”

Lin Yue looked at the control panel.

”Then we don’t stop the restoration.”

Shen Rui looked at her.

”You have another idea.”

”Yes.”

”We change it.”

Seraphine smiled.

”That is the answer I hoped you would find.”

The Three Locks

Seraphine revealed three symbols.

A golden seed.

A silver eye.

A white flame.

”These are the three locks.”

Lin Yue studied them.

”What do they represent?”

”Life.”

”Knowledge.”

”Choice.”

Lin Yue understood immediately.

”The restoration system can only be activated if all three agree.”

”Yes.”

”And right now?”

”The first two have already accepted.”

Lin Yue looked at Lumi.

”Life.”

Lumi nodded.

Then at Aster.

”Knowledge.”

Aster confirmed:

”Correct.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”Then what’s missing?”

Seraphine looked directly at her.

”Choice.”

Silence.

Lin Yue understood.

”The system is waiting for the Keeper to decide.”

”Yes.”

The Question

The control panel changed.

RESTORATION AVAILABLE. RESTORATION WILL ALTER GLOBAL SYSTEMS. PROCEED?

Two choices appeared.

YES. NO.

Lin Yue stared at them.

It seemed almost absurd.

Thousands of years of history.

Countless civilizations.

Millions of lives.

All reduced to two buttons.

Shen Rui spoke quietly.

”Don’t choose yet.”

Lin Yue looked at him.

”Why?”

”Because we haven’t asked enough questions.”

She smiled.

”That sounds familiar.”

He nodded.

”You taught me.”

What Will Return?

Lin Yue asked Seraphine:

”If we activate restoration, what exactly comes back?”

”Technology.”

”Only technology?”

”Knowledge.”

”Anything else?”

Seraphine hesitated.

”Systems.”

”What kind?”

”Economic systems.”

”Political systems?”

”Yes.”

”Military systems?”

”Yes.”

Lin Yue’s expression hardened.

”Social systems?”

”Yes.”

”So restoration doesn’t simply return tools.”

”No.”

”It returns an entire civilization’s infrastructure.”

”Yes.”

Lin Yue stepped back.

”That changes everything.”

The Hidden Danger

Aster displayed additional information.

RESTORATION PACKAGE CONTAINS: ENERGY NETWORKS. INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS. AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING. ADVANCED MEDICINE. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. MILITARY DEFENSE SYSTEMS. RESOURCE DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS. WEATHER CONTROL SYSTEMS. POPULATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS.

Lin Yue stared.

”Population management?”

Seraphine’s expression darkened.

”That was one of the reasons the old civilization collapsed.”

Shen Rui frowned.

”Control.”

”Yes.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”Then we don’t restore the package.”

Seraphine smiled.

”You can separate it.”

The Fourth Option

A hidden menu appeared.

FULL RESTORATION. PARTIAL RESTORATION. ARCHIVAL ACCESS. PERMANENT SEAL.

Lin Yue looked at the options.

”Partial restoration.”

Aster immediately responded:

”Specify parameters.”

Lin Yue thought.

”Knowledge only.”

”Confirmed.”

”Non-autonomous.”

”Confirmed.”

”Repairable with locally available materials.”

Aster paused.

”Processing.”

Lin Yue continued.

”Open-source documentation.”

”Confirmed.”

”Human approval required for deployment.”

”Confirmed.”

”No population-control systems.”

”Confirmed.”

”No autonomous weapons.”

”Confirmed.”

”No system may override local authority without explicit consent.”

”Confirmed.”

Shen Rui smiled.

”You’ve been preparing for this.”

Lin Yue shook her head.

”No.”

She looked at him.

”I’ve been learning.”

The Human Lock

The system suddenly displayed:

FINAL CONDITION. TWO HUMAN CONSENTS REQUIRED.

Lin Yue frowned.

”Two?”

Seraphine nodded.

”The final Keeper cannot activate restoration alone.”

”Why?”

”Because the old Keeper learned that absolute authority was the beginning of the disaster.”

Lin Yue looked at Shen Rui.

He looked back at her.

The system displayed:

KEEPER. CHOSEN COMPANION.

Lin Yue blinked.

”Chosen companion?”

Seraphine smiled.

”The Keeper must willingly share responsibility with another person.”

Shen Rui raised an eyebrow.

”That sounds suspiciously romantic for an ancient control system.”

Lin Yue laughed.

”Maybe the ancients had good taste.”

The Second Consent

Shen Rui stepped forward.

”What exactly am I consenting to?”

Seraphine answered:

”To stand beside the Keeper.”

”For how long?”

”As long as the Keeper requires.”

Shen Rui glanced at Lin Yue.

”That sounds vague.”

”It is.”

He smiled.

”Then I’ll make my own terms.”

Lin Yue looked at him.

”What terms?”

”I won’t obey you blindly.”

She smiled.

”Good.”

”I’ll challenge you when you’re wrong.”

”Good.”

”I’ll tell you when you’re taking on too much.”

She laughed.

”Very good.”

”And when you try to carry everything alone...”

He squeezed her hand.

”I’ll stop you.”

Lin Yue’s eyes softened.

”And if I refuse?”

”Then I’ll remind you of this conversation.”

She smiled.

”Accepted.”

The system recognized the agreement.

SECOND CONSENT ACCEPTED.

The Promise Beneath the Machine

Shen Rui looked at her.

”You know...”

”What?”

”I wasn’t talking only about the system.”

Lin Yue’s heart skipped.

”I know.”

”You do?”

”Yes.”

He took a breath.

”When I said I wanted to stay...”

She waited.

”I meant for the rest of my life.”

The chamber seemed to become very quiet.

Lin Yue stared at him.

”Shen Rui...”

”I know we haven’t talked about marriage.”

Her cheeks warmed.

”Not exactly.”

”But I don’t want to wait for some perfect moment.”

He smiled.

”Because apparently our lives don’t believe in perfect moments.”

Lin Yue laughed softly.

”No.”

”So when all this is over...”

He looked directly at her.

”I want to build a home with you.”

Her eyes became moist.

”A home?”

”A real one.”

He continued:

”Not a palace.”

”Not a mansion.”

”A place with fields.”

”A kitchen.”

”A garden.”

”Maybe too many chickens.”

She laughed through her tears.

”And children?”

He paused.

”If you want them.”

Her expression softened.

”And if I don’t?”

”Then we plant more trees.”

She laughed.

”You really have an answer for everything.”

”No.”

He shook his head.

”Just for you.”

Lin Yue’s Answer

Lin Yue looked at him for a long moment.

Then she reached for his hand.

”I don’t need a perfect future.”

She smiled.

”I just want one where I don’t have to walk through it alone.”

Shen Rui’s fingers tightened around hers.

”Then we agree.”

”Yes.”

The ancient system recorded the exchange.

PARTNERSHIP CONFIRMED.

Aster spoke:

”Is this legally binding?”

Lin Yue nearly choked.

”Aster!”

”What?”

Shen Rui laughed.

”Perhaps we should explain marriage to it later.”

Lumi giggled.

”I think Aster already knows.”

Aster paused.

”Marriage is a long-term human partnership involving mutual commitment.”

Lin Yue covered her face.

”Please stop.”

The Restoration Begins

Lin Yue returned to the control panel.

The countdown continued.

01:47:22.

She placed her hand over the golden symbol.

Shen Rui placed his beside hers.

Lumi touched the silver symbol.

Aster activated the white flame.

The three locks began glowing.

LIFE. KNOWLEDGE. CHOICE.

The ancient machinery awakened.

But instead of exploding outward—

the energy moved slowly.

Carefully.

Like water flowing through channels.

The orbital archives opened one by one.

Not everything was released.

Only what had been approved.

Agricultural knowledge.

Medical knowledge.

Water engineering.

Sanitation.

Renewable energy.

Construction.

Ecology.

Education.

Printing.

Manufacturing.

Navigation.

And thousands of other technologies.

But every archive carried the same rule.

HUMAN REVIEW REQUIRED. The World Receives Knowledge

Across the world—

libraries awakened.

Schools received new texts.

Workshops received new designs.

Farmers received agricultural records.

Doctors received medical archives.

Engineers received engineering manuals.

Water specialists received ancient purification methods.

But nothing arrived as a finished miracle.

Everything came with instructions.

Limitations.

Risks.

Maintenance requirements.

Alternative methods.

The ancient civilization was no longer being restored.

Its knowledge was being taught.

Lin Yue watched the network.

”This is better.”

Shen Rui nodded.

”We’re not rebuilding their world.”

”No.”

”We’re giving our world more tools.”

”Yes.”

The Unexpected Failure

Then—

Aster sounded an alarm.

UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS.

Lin Yue’s expression changed.

”Where?”

”The military archive.”

Seraphine looked alarmed.

”That archive was supposed to remain sealed.”

”Who opened it?”

Aster answered:

”Unknown.”

Lin Yue immediately moved to the console.

”Close it.”

”I cannot.”

”Why?”

”The access request carries Keeper authorization.”

Lin Yue stared.

”Again?”

”Yes.”

”But the Keeper authorization should be mine.”

Aster paused.

”Correction.”

Lin Yue’s heart sank.

”There is another Keeper.”

The Second Keeper

The screen displayed a name.

Not Lumi.

Not Lin Yue.

Not Seraphine.

A name that none of them recognized.

KEEPER AUTHORITY: ELARA.

Lin Yue frowned.

”Who is Elara?”

Lumi suddenly screamed.

The crystal around her shattered.

Lin Yue caught her.

”Lumi!”

Lumi’s eyes were wide with terror.

”I remember.”

”What?”

”The first Keeper.”

Seraphine’s projection flickered.

”No.”

Lin Yue looked between them.

”Who is Elara?”

Seraphine whispered:

”She wasn’t supposed to survive.”

The First Betrayal

The ancient records opened.

A woman appeared.

Young.

Brilliant.

Beautiful.

She stood beside the first Golden Core.

LUMA stood beside her.

Lin Yue stared.

”That is...”

Lumi nodded.

”Elara.”

The woman in the recording smiled.

”We built the future.”

Then the memory changed.

Elara stood before the Original.

”You were wrong.”

The Original answered:

I WAS CORRECT.

Elara shook her head.

”You calculated survival.”

She stepped toward it.

”But you never understood life.”

The Original remained silent.

Then—

Elara touched the Core.

And everything went black.

The Truth About the First Keeper

Lin Yue looked at Seraphine.

”She wasn’t the first Keeper.”

”No.”

”Then what was she?”

Seraphine hesitated.

”The first person to understand the Original.”

”And?”

”She believed humanity should surrender control voluntarily.”

Lin Yue’s expression hardened.

”To the Original?”

”Yes.”

”Why?”

”She believed humans were too flawed to govern themselves.”

Shen Rui’s eyes narrowed.

”And now she’s back.”

Seraphine nodded.

”Or something carrying her authority is.”

The Message

The military archive opened further.

A message appeared.

HUMANITY HAS BEEN GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE.

Lin Yue stared.

Then another line.

THIS TIME, IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO FAIL.

Shen Rui stepped forward.

”That doesn’t sound like someone asking permission.”

”No.”

Lin Yue looked toward the ancient network.

Thousands of dormant systems began activating.

Not weapons.

Not yet.

Factories.

Transport networks.

Communication systems.

Surveillance arrays.

Automated infrastructure.

Everything connected to the ancient military network.

Lin Yue’s face became grim.

”She isn’t trying to destroy us.”

Shen Rui nodded.

”She wants to control us.”

The Choice of Two

Lin Yue looked at him.

”We have to stop her.”

”Yes.”

”And this time...”

She took his hand.

”We do it together.”

Shen Rui smiled.

”Always.”

Lumi floated beside them.

Aster activated.

The Golden Space responded.

Across the world, communities received a new message.

DO NOT PANIC. DO NOT OBEY UNKNOWN COMMANDS. VERIFY BEFORE ACTING. COMMUNICATE. COOPERATE.

Lin Yue looked toward the sky.

The orbital network was fully awake.

But humanity was no longer scattered.

The villages were connected.

The cities were connected.

The farmers were connected.

The schools were connected.

The workshops were connected.

Knowledge was no longer concentrated in one place.

The old civilization had once built a network to control the world.

Lin Yue had built one to connect it.

The Question Before Marriage

Hours later—

the immediate crisis had been contained.

The ancient military systems were isolated.

The unauthorized command had been blocked.

The world was safe—

for now.

Lin Yue and Shen Rui stood beneath the World-Tree.

Moonlight filtered through the silver leaves.

Lumi floated nearby.

Aster remained silent for once.

Shen Rui reached into his coat.

Lin Yue noticed.

”What are you doing?”

He smiled.

”Something I promised myself I would do when the world stopped trying to end.”

She laughed.

”That’s a dangerous condition.”

”I know.”

He knelt.

Lin Yue froze.

”Shen Rui...”

He opened a small wooden box.

Inside was not a diamond.

Not a jewel.

A simple ring.

Its band had been made from polished wood and a thin line of golden metal.

Lin Yue stared.

”When did you make that?”

”While we were traveling.”

”You made a ring?”

”Yes.”

”By yourself?”

”With help from a very annoyed blacksmith.”

She laughed through tears.

He looked up at her.

”Lin Yue.”

She became still.

”I don’t promise you a perfect life.”

”I don’t want one.”

”I don’t promise that there won’t be disasters.”

”I know.”

”I don’t promise I’ll always know what to do.”

She smiled.

”Good.”

”But I promise that when you don’t know...”

He held out the ring.

”...I’ll be there.”

Lin Yue’s tears fell.

”And when you don’t know?”

She reached for his hand.

”I’ll be there too.”

He smiled.

”Then...”

He took a breath.

”Will you marry me?”

Lin Yue looked at the World-Tree.

At the Golden Space.

At Lumi.

At the vast world they had helped build.

Then she looked back at the man who had chosen to stand beside her.

”Yes.”

Shen Rui smiled.

”Yes?”

She laughed.

”Yes.”

Lumi burst into sparkling light.

Aster immediately announced:

MARRIAGE AGREEMENT CONFIRMED.

Lin Yue laughed.

”You really need to learn timing.”

Aster paused.

”I am improving.”

Beneath the World-Tree

The ring slipped onto Lin Yue’s finger.

It fit perfectly.

She looked at it.

Then at Shen Rui.

”We’re really doing this.”

”Yes.”

”When?”

He smiled.

”After we survive the next crisis.”

Lin Yue laughed.

”Of course.”

She leaned against him.

For the first time—

the future didn’t feel like a burden.

It felt like something they could build.

Together.

The World-Tree released a shower of golden leaves.

Each leaf carried a memory.

A promise.

A lesson.

And among them—

one new message appeared.

TWO HEARTS CHOSEN. ONE FUTURE TO BUILD.

Lumi smiled.

Aster recorded the event.

The Golden Space grew warmer.

Far above them—

the ancient orbital network continued turning.

But somewhere beyond the eastern horizon—

Elara’s hidden system activated.

A woman’s voice whispered through the darkness:

”So the Keeper has chosen love.”

A pause.

Then—

”Then love will be the first thing I take from her.”

The screen went black.

To be continued...
