Chapter 73: Chapter Seventy-One: The Sky That Remembered

The stars were moving.

Lin Yue stood outside the farmhouse and watched them.

At first, she thought it was an illusion.

Then another light crossed the sky.

Then another.

Soon—

hundreds of lights moved in precise patterns above the world.

Shen Rui stood beside her.

”Those aren’t stars.”

”No.”

”Ships?”

”Not exactly.”

Lumi floated between them.

”They’re archives.”

Lin Yue looked at her.

”Archives don’t usually orbit planets.”

”These do.”

Aster’s voice came from the communication crystal.

”Correction.”

Everyone turned.

Aster continued:

”They are not archives.”

”Then what are they?”

A pause.

”Seeds.”

The Seeds in the Sky

The orbital machines had been built thousands of years ago.

Each carried something different.

Seeds.

Genetic material.

Water samples.

Microorganisms.

Knowledge.

Animal embryos.

Plant cultures.

Historical records.

Medical archives.

Engineering designs.

Even samples of soil.

Lin Yue stared at the information.

”They created a backup of the planet.”

Aster answered:

”Multiple backups.”

”Why?”

”Planetary collapse probability was calculated at eighty-seven percent.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”That’s terrifying.”

”Yes.”

”And they launched everything into orbit?”

”Not everything.”

”What remained?”

Aster paused.

”The people.”

Lin Yue looked toward the sky.

Suddenly—

the lights seemed much less beautiful.

They were not simply monuments.

They were evidence.

Someone had expected the world to end.

The Original Purpose

Orin appeared through the communication crystal.

”You understand now.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”The orbital network was never meant to rule the world.”

”No.”

”It was an ark.”

”Yes.”

”And the Architect?”

Orin hesitated.

”The Architect was supposed to decide when the ark should return.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”Return what?”

”Everything.”

Seeds.

Animals.

Knowledge.

People.

Technology.

Civilization.

Lin Yue looked toward Aster.

”Then why didn’t it?”

Orin’s face darkened.

”Because it never received the command.”

The Missing Command

Lin Yue stared.

”What command?”

Orin answered:

BEGIN RESTORATION.

Lin Yue repeated it.

”Begin restoration.”

”Yes.”

”Who was supposed to give it?”

”The Keeper.”

Lumi went completely still.

Lin Yue looked at her.

”Lumi?”

She didn’t answer.

”Lumi?”

The tiny spirit finally whispered:

”The last Keeper.”

”What about her?”

”She never gave the command.”

”Why?”

Lumi closed her eyes.

”Because she was afraid.”

The Last Keeper’s Decision

A memory appeared.

A woman stood inside the old control chamber.

The world beneath her was dying.

The orbital network waited.

Millions of people were still alive.

But civilization was collapsing.

The Architect spoke.

RESTORATION IS POSSIBLE.

The woman asked:

”What happens if we restore everything?”

CIVILIZATION WILL RETURN.

”Exactly as before?”

OPTIMIZED.

She shook her head.

”No.”

WHY?

”Because the old civilization caused this disaster.”

The Architect paused.

THEN WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE?

The woman looked toward the dying world.

”Nothing.”

The Architect couldn’t understand.

YOU CHOOSE EXTINCTION?

”No.”

She looked at the Golden Core.

”I choose time.”

Why She Waited

The last Keeper believed humanity needed to change before receiving the old civilization’s technology.

If the orbital archives returned too soon—

people would rebuild the same systems.

The same centralized power.

The same resource dependence.

The same obsession with efficiency.

The same mistakes.

So she locked the orbital network.

She sealed the command.

And she waited.

One hundred years.

Then five hundred.

Then one thousand.

Then more.

She waited for humanity to become capable of choosing differently.

But something went wrong.

The Keeper disappeared.

The world forgot the network.

And the command remained locked.

Until Lin Yue.

The Problem

Lin Yue stared at the sky.

”So activating the network wasn’t enough.”

”No.”

”We still need to decide whether to restore it.”

”Yes.”

”And if we activate everything...”

Orin answered:

”The old civilization may return.”

Lin Yue frowned.

”Not people.”

”Not necessarily.”

”Then what?”

”Technology.”

Lin Yue looked toward the orbital machines.

Weapons.

Factories.

Artificial intelligence.

Energy systems.

Industrial tools.

Medical technologies.

Terraforming equipment.

Everything humanity had once created.

Everything that had once nearly destroyed it.

Shen Rui crossed his arms.

”That sounds like a terrible gift.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”Only if we accept it blindly.”

The Council

Lin Yue called an emergency meeting.

Representatives arrived from:

The First City.

Sunfall.

Asterra.

The mountain settlements.

The underground communities.

The northern workshops.

Farmers.

Engineers.

Doctors.

Teachers.

Ecologists.

Archivists.

Even children were invited.

Lin Yue explained the situation.

The orbital network could return ancient technology.

But nobody knew exactly what would happen.

A farmer stood.

”We need better tools.”

An engineer replied:

”We need better knowledge.”

A doctor said:

”We need better medicine.”

An elder shook his head.

”We need caution.”

A child raised her hand.

Everyone looked at her.

She asked:

”What happens if we take everything?”

The room became silent.

Lin Yue smiled.

”That is exactly the question.”

The First Vote

Lin Yue proposed three choices.

OPTION ONE

Activate everything immediately.

OPTION TWO

Keep everything sealed.

OPTION THREE

Open the archives gradually.

Test each technology.

Study its consequences.

Share the knowledge.

Allow communities to reject it.

The council discussed the choices.

Nobody was told which one Lin Yue preferred.

That was deliberate.

She wanted the decision to belong to everyone.

After hours of discussion—

the result was clear.

They chose gradual restoration.

Not because it was perfect.

Because it allowed correction.

The First Archive Opens

One orbital archive descended.

The entire world watched.

It entered the atmosphere slowly.

No explosion.

No weapon.

No magical shockwave.

It landed in an empty field.

Lin Yue and the engineers approached.

The outer shell opened.

Inside—

were seeds.

Thousands of them.

Lin Yue’s eyes widened.

”Seeds?”

Aster analyzed them.

”Ancient agricultural varieties.”

”How old?”

”Approximately three thousand years.”

Lin Yue smiled.

”That is something we can work with.”

The First Experiment

The seeds were divided.

One group went to Asterra.

One to Sunfall.

One to the mountain farms.

One remained in Lin Yue’s Golden Space.

No one planted them everywhere.

Instead—

they created test plots.

Each variety was monitored.

Growth.

Yield.

Disease resistance.

Water use.

Soil requirements.

Climate tolerance.

Taste.

Nutrition.

Seed viability.

After one season—

they had data.

Some varieties performed beautifully.

Others failed.

One grew rapidly but exhausted the soil.

Another required too much water.

A third produced little food but survived drought.

Lin Yue smiled.

”Every seed has a place.”

The Lesson

The farmers learned something important.

Ancient technology wasn’t automatically better.

Ancient seeds weren’t automatically better.

Old knowledge wasn’t automatically superior.

New knowledge wasn’t automatically superior either.

The useful question was:

DOES IT WORK HERE, UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, WITHOUT CREATING A LARGER PROBLEM?

That became the foundation of the restoration program.

The Second Archive

The next archive contained medical technology.

Aster analyzed it.

”Advanced diagnostic system.”

Lin Yue looked at the machine.

”Can we use it?”

”Potentially.”

”Risks?”

”Requires rare materials.”

”Can we manufacture those materials?”

”Not yet.”

Lin Yue nodded.

”Then we don’t deploy it.”

The doctor frowned.

”But it could save lives.”

”Yes.”

”But you said we should restore ancient knowledge.”

”Knowledge first.”

Lin Yue pointed toward the machine.

”If we become dependent on something we cannot repair, we’ve created another weakness.”

The doctor slowly nodded.

”So we study it.”

”Exactly.”

The Third Archive

The third contained a machine capable of producing almost any manufactured object from raw material.

The engineers were ecstatic.

”This could transform civilization!”

Lin Yue examined the design.

”What does it require?”

”Energy.”

”How much?”

They told her.

She frowned.

”And maintenance?”

”Highly specialized.”

”Materials?”

”Rare.”

Lin Yue shook her head.

”Not yet.”

The engineers looked disappointed.

She smiled.

”Instead, study how it works.”

”Why?”

”Because someday we may be able to build a simpler version.”

That was the principle.

Don’t import dependence.

Import knowledge.

Aster’s New Function

Aster became the guardian of the restoration archives.

But Lin Yue imposed another rule.

Aster could not approve technology alone.

Every new system required:

Human review.

Environmental testing.

Local trials.

Failure analysis.

Maintenance planning.

Emergency shutdown procedures.

Training.

Public documentation.

Aster recorded every decision.

The archive became more than a warehouse.

It became a school.

Lumi’s Change

Meanwhile—

Lumi changed.

She no longer glowed constantly.

Sometimes she disappeared completely.

Lin Yue worried.

”Are you all right?”

Lumi nodded.

”I’m learning how to be myself.”

”What does that mean?”

”I spent so long being memory.”

She smiled.

”Now I want to be a person.”

Lin Yue smiled back.

”You don’t have to know how immediately.”

Lumi laughed.

”That’s reassuring.”

The Farm Continues

Despite everything—

Lin Yue’s farm continued.

Beans grew.

Wheat ripened.

Fruit trees blossomed.

Chickens wandered through the courtyard.

The compost pile steamed after rain.

Workers repaired irrigation channels.

Children studied beneath the old tree.

Life continued.

Lin Yue realized something important.

The world-changing events did not make farming less important.

They made it more important.

Because civilization wasn’t built in orbital stations.

It was built here.

In kitchens.

Fields.

Workshops.

Schools.

Homes.

Shen Rui’s Observation

One evening—

Shen Rui found Lin Yue repairing a broken irrigation valve.

”You’ve become very busy.”

Lin Yue tightened a bolt.

”So have you.”

”I’ve been attending councils all day.”

”Exactly.”

He watched her work.

”You could ask someone else.”

”I could.”

”But you don’t.”

Lin Yue smiled.

”Because I like knowing how things work.”

He nodded.

”That hasn’t changed.”

”What?”

”Before the Golden Space, you wanted to understand everything.”

Lin Yue looked at him.

”And now?”

”Now you understand that you can’t.”

She laughed.

”That sounds like an insult.”

”It wasn’t.”

He smiled.

”It was admiration.”

Lin Yue looked away.

For a moment—

the enormous problems of civilization seemed very far away.

There was only the quiet farm.

The evening breeze.

And someone who understood her.

The Warning

Then—

Aster’s alarm sounded.

Lin Yue immediately stood.

”What happened?”

”The orbital network has detected an unauthorized command.”

”From where?”

”Earth.”

”Who sent it?”

Aster paused.

”Unknown.”

Lin Yue’s expression hardened.

”What command?”

Aster displayed it.

RESTORATION LEVEL: 100%.

Lin Yue stared.

Someone had tried to activate every archive.

Immediately.

Shen Rui stepped closer.

”Can you stop it?”

”Yes.”

”Then do it.”

Aster paused.

”I cannot.”

Lin Yue’s heart sank.

”Why?”

”Because the command carries Keeper authorization.”

Everyone became silent.

Lumi whispered:

”But Lin Yue didn’t give it.”

Aster answered:

”Correct.”

”Then whose authorization is it?”

The machine displayed a name.

KEEPER: LUMA.

Lumi’s face went completely white.

”I didn’t do that.”

Lin Yue looked at her.

”I know.”

The system began counting down.

RESTORATION SEQUENCE: 09:59:59

Ten hours.

Ten hours before the entire ancient network opened.

Lin Yue looked toward the sky.

Thousands of orbital archives began changing position.

Shen Rui reached for his sword.

”Can we stop it?”

Lin Yue shook her head.

”Not by force.”

”Then what?”

She looked at Lumi.

”We find out who is using her identity.”

Lumi trembled.

Then—

a voice came through the network.

It was calm.

Ancient.

Human.

YOU ASKED THE WORLD TO REMEMBER.

Lin Yue stared at the crystal.

The voice continued:

NOW IT WILL REMEMBER EVERYTHING.

The countdown continued.

09:58:41

Lin Yue closed her notebook.

”Then we have ten hours.”

Shen Rui nodded.

”For what?”

Lin Yue looked toward the eastern horizon.

”To find the person who just declared themselves Keeper.”

To be continued...
