Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2994: Chapter 2995: Sheltering from the Rain, Fever

”I am ashamed, I couldn’t take good care of my daughter, and I don’t even know what’s wrong with her.” Yong Guang showed a look of pain.

But Yong Qiaoqiao seemed not to notice, lost in her own thoughts.

”So you want to go to the Western Regions to complete the marriage, hoping the in-laws could support you a bit?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Yong Guang hurriedly shook his head, ”I also brought some goods to do business, this trip should earn enough for her dowry. Her biggest regret before her mother passed away was not being able to see her get married, so I hope to complete the marriage for her, so I can do business with peace of mind.” ℴ

”Isn’t she a bit too young to get married at this age?” Bai Ruozhu asked again.

”She is already thirteen, prepare for another year after going over, and it should be about right.” Yong Guang said.

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback. Yong Qiaoqiao looked only about eleven or twelve, yet she was already thirteen.

”Yong Qiaoqiao, if you don’t want to marry, talk to your father properly, and stop doing things like running away.” Bai Ruozhu said to the young girl.

Yong Qiaoqiao showed a look of disappointment, lowered her head, ”Would he agree even if I said it? The marriage documents have been exchanged, my father’s ultimate principle is his reputation.”

Yong Guang’s eyes turned red, ”You’re my only child. If you don’t want to, your dad will swallow his pride and break off the engagement for you, but you have to come with me to the Western Regions to break it. Just that your dad doesn’t understand, you were always willing before, why do you suddenly want to break the engagement? You’ve met the boy too, and there’s nothing dissatisfying.”

”I just don’t want to marry, I may not be compatible with a person from the Western Regions, I don’t want to be miserable in the future.” Yong Qiaoqiao said, looking down.

Yong Guang sighed, ”If you insist, dad will break the engagement, but think it through, don’t just act on impulse.”

Yong Qiaoqiao bit her lip, ”I’ve thought it through.”

Bai Ruozhu saw there wasn’t a situation that couldn’t be talked through, how did it come to multiple escapes and even knocking her father unconscious?

Originally she thought it was a deceitful father selling his daughter for benefits, forcing the daughter to run away, but judging from Yong Guang’s words, it clearly wasn’t the case.

”Alright, you can go back now.” She said.

Yong Guang hurriedly saluted her, pulled Yong Qiaoqiao to go back, as he turned, blood stains were revealed on his back, his scalp was slit open.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, called Jianqi to send a bottle of medicine to Yong Guang.

If her father were to marry her off, and she didn’t want to, she would persuade her father, how did it come to being able to hit so hard?

Bai Ruozhu suddenly became a little suspicious and instructed Jianqi to keep an eye out, lest it be some scheme set by Yimen’s Young Master Ji.

...

Meanwhile, in the Capital City, Bai Zepei received an urgent letter from Bai Ruozhu from the Commerce Association, learning of the Xun family’s plot against the Bai Family.

Bai Zepei took the letter and immediately went to see the Prime Minister.

”Grandpa, someone over there has already started to act.” He said while handing the letter to Si Yuanhang.

Si Yuanhang read it without a change in expression, ”Once I want to move my position, some people can’t hold their horses.”

He then laughed, ”Your sister’s move is not bad, they punched into cotton, all efforts wasted, losing quite a few fields in the process.”

Bai Zepei lowered his face, ”She loves to cause me trouble.”

”Haha, you’re in the whirlpool, afraid of trouble?” Si Yuanhang said.

Bai Zepei pursed his lips, he recently learned that the Prime Minister intended to retire to hometown, many are eyeing the Prime Minister’s position, but the emperor doesn’t want major changes in the court structure, especially after just reclaiming the Jiang Mountain, with everything in ruins, stability is preferred.

Therefore, the emperor surprisingly intended to appoint him to the Prime Minister’s position. Once this is confirmed, he might become the youngest Prime Minister since the founding of Danliang Country.

His entanglements are minimal, the Bai Family is newly wealthy, only tied to the Prime Minister’s family, essentially keeping the same alliance but slightly weakening the Prime Minister’s power as Bai Zepei is not truly a Si Family member.

Moreover, he indeed has true talents, even Tang Yin greatly admires him.

Combined with his relationships with Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun, Tang Yin trusted him a bit more.

Just, when did the emperor have this intention, how did it spread, since the other party already started acting.

”How do you plan to handle this matter?” Si Yuanhang asked.

”Not handling it, let them hit and scold freely.” Bai Zepei said.

Si Yuanhang was stunned for a second, then burst into laughter, patting Bai Zepei on the shoulder, ”Good, not bad, I am ashamed of my own wit compared to yours. This way, I’m at ease, leave the Capital to you, the Si Family will rely on your care in the future.”

At such a critical moment, if Bai Zepei does too much, it would make him seem too calculating.

If he does nothing, letting the opponents act freely, the emperor will send someone to investigate, if those assigned by the emperor can’t find out the truth, then he indeed shouldn’t be emperor.

So no matter how fierce the chaos outside, if the emperor knows he was wronged in this matter, knows he’s innocent, that’s enough.

Bai Zepei bid farewell to Si Yuanhang, leaving the Si Residence, keeping one thing from Si Yuanhang, in fact, he also wanted to see what expression his sister would have when she learns that pushing her matter over harmed her second brother.

Bai Zepei chuckled secretly, even if his sister denies it, their parents will surely remind her well, it would be a little return gift from him as an older brother for her ’kindness’.

...

The envoy continued their journey, not expecting by evening that the weather darkened significantly, soon raindrops as big as beans began to pour down, the weather changed quickly, and the wind howled.

The team hurried to find a place to shelter from the rain, fortunately, Bai Ruozhu and the others had a horse carriage, so they didn’t get soaked, while the merchant team following behind them looked particularly battered.

Their shelter was a cave naturally formed at the foot of a nearby mountain, with several such caves nearby, where the merchant team also took refuge.

The rain continued relentlessly, showing no signs of stopping through the night, Bai Ruozhu worriedly held her three sleeping children.

The rain was so heavy that the official road would become muddy and difficult to traverse.

Suddenly, footsteps were heard outside, as a guard from the merchant team, wearing a rain cape, cautiously said at the entrance of their cave shelter, ”Excuse me, do you have a doctor? A merchant is feverish and in great danger.”

Bai Ruozhu suddenly thought of the injury on Yong Guang’s head, quickly asked Jiang Yichun to watch the children, and got up to go out.

”Is it Yong Guang?” she asked.

The guard quickly nodded, ”Yes, it’s him, probably because of the injury on his head, he’s now delirious with fever.”

For sure, the injury didn’t heal, and he got soaked in the rain, which must have led to infection and fever, not to mention the clothes were wet.

Bai Ruozhu asked for a rain cape to go out, Jiang Yichun stood up and said, ”Bring him here, it’s not safe for you to go.”
