Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2970: Chapter 2971: Is It Still Time to Avoid This?

”Regardless of its significance, everything must be mentioned; no lead should be overlooked,” Gao Zhou said.

Xue Zhuo hesitated again, dismissed all the servants except those in the room, and finally began to speak softly.

”When I was little, I was playing outside once, and Zhizhi broke a Western mirror of my mother’s inside the room. It was a gift from my maternal grandmother to my mother, and she cherished it dearly. At that time, my mother had the nanny take Zhizhi away. Afterwards, she broke quite a few things and was extremely agitated.”

”She said that she was cursed with a bastard child and that it would always go against her. The nanny hurriedly tried to comfort her, saying that since she had me, she hadn’t been able to conceive again and it’s good to have an extra daughter to prevent gossip. I rarely saw my mother so angry and was terrified, so the memory stuck with me for many years. Later, I secretly investigated and found out that Zhizhi might not be my mother’s biological child, but rather the daughter of my father and a maid.”

”My father has always been very devoted to my mother, and I couldn’t believe he would make such a mistake, so I couldn’t be sure and dared not ask my parents.”

Gao Zhou thought of Master Xue shedding genuine tears for his wife, indeed great affection between them, otherwise, there wouldn’t be no concubine in this residence.

”I understand, take a good rest, I’ll go have a word with them,” Gao Zhou instructed and hurriedly chased out.

On the other side, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun arrived at Xue Zhi’s yard, and no one was at the entrance, so they walked in.

Not far from the door, Xue Zhi was slowly moving with the support of a maid, and seemed to be recovering well.

She turned her head at the sound, ”Master Bai...”

When she saw Jiang Yichun behind Bai Ruozhu, her face froze, and she hurriedly turned to walk into the room.

”Miss, slow down!” The maid cried out in haste.

Only then did Bai Ruozhu notice that her clothes were draped over her, indeed making her appearance improper for meeting a man outside.

She secretly blamed the Xue Residence people for leaving the girl’s yard unattended, intending to pull Jiang Yichun to retreat first.

Unexpectedly, Xue Zhi exclaimed and stumbled, falling to the ground.

The outer coat slipped directly, revealing her snow-white fragrant shoulder, but there were streaks of blood marks on both her arms, upon which ointment was applied.

These were scratches from the previous pain caused by the curse she endured, all were external injuries, and Bai Ruozhu had given her the ointment then, as long as applied daily, no scars would remain.

Perhaps afraid of rubbing against the ointment, she draped her outer garment.

And with the temperature warming up these two days, as her outer garment slipped off, inside she wore only a bright red undergarment, and with this fall, a thin strap at the back was torn off.

Xue Zhi shrieked as she tried to get up, only to stumble again due to the pain in her foot, exposing even more.

Jiang Yichun had already turned around and swiftly jumped out of the yard, dammit, how could he get into trouble once again, he couldn’t escape this?

Unexpectedly, at this moment Gao Zhou rushed in, ”You little brat, Ruozhu, there’s new infor...mation...”

By the time he finished speaking, Gao Zhou was dumbfounded, what was going on, was he hallucinating?

Xue Zhi cried out miserably, immediately alerting the servants in the residence, while the guards thought something happened. Luckily, by the time they arrived, Xue Zhi had already rolled and crawled back into her room, only her outer garment was left on the ground.

The maid was so frightened she started crying, not even bothering to enter the room to check on their lady’s condition.

Bai Ruozhu was also stunned, how did this accident happen? Gao Zhou looked at her, lowered his voice, and asked, ”Where’s Achun?”

”He went to avoid it,” Bai Ruozhu replied.

Gao Zhou was about to cry, ”Is it too late for me to avoid it now?”

”With so many people watching, if you leave now, it looks guilty,” Bai Ruozhu covered her forehead, ”How was I supposed to know you’d just rush in, what’s the new information?”

Gao Zhou was about to speak when Master Xue rushed in hastily, ”What, what happened? Is there an intruder?”

Before Bai Ruozhu could answer, he saw his daughter’s dropped clothing, with footprints on it, and the tears from the previous panic.

Master Xue’s face turned pale for a moment, but he quickly steadied himself, experiencing too much these days, he couldn’t allow himself not to be calm anymore.

”It’s nothing serious, everyone disperse, today’s gatekeeper stay,” Master Xue said.

Others dispersed, only two servant women stayed, holding hot water, having spilled most of it in their hurry.

”Where were you all?” Master Xue angrily asked.

”Miss asked us to fetch water, said she wanted to wash away the bad luck,” one servant said, agreeing with the other, ”Master, we didn’t slack off, fetched it and came back.”

Xue Zhi was an unmarried lady, her yard was watched over by servant women, so she instructed them to do these tasks.

”Master Bai, this, this in the end...” Master Xue seeing no intruder had entered, could only ask Bai Ruozhu.

”It’s nothing major, Miss Xue went out with a draped overcoat and had a little fall, she’s gone back to change,” Bai Ruozhu tried to underplay the situation as much as possible.

Wasn’t it just exposing a bit of skin? It wasn’t full nudity after all, she had seen fully nude dancing girls, so what was this?

”It’s alright then, it’s alright,” Master Xue wiped the sweat from his forehead.

He went over and knocked on the door, ”Zhizhi, you didn’t injure yourself, did you? Can Dad come in now?”

The maid beside him dared not cry anymore, received a glare from Master Xue, hurried into the room, followed by the crisp sound of slapping, but Xue Zhi didn’t speak again, nor did the maid dare to cry out, only sobbing lightly.

”Master Xue, we’re here to see the jewelry box Madam Xue left behind with Miss Xue. Since it’s inconvenient for Miss Xue at the moment, we’ll head back first and wait until it’s convenient,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Master Xue at this point had no mind for other matters, after all, the jewelry box wouldn’t run away.

”Alright, alright, sorry to trouble both of you.” Only now did he realize, where was Jiang Yichun?

Bai Ruozhu and Gao Zhou paid their respects and quickly left.

Gao Zhou breathed a huge sigh of relief, ”What just happened, how did her clothes fall off?”

”Probably had difficulty wearing clothes because of the ointment on her arms, so she draped one while moving in the yard, didn’t expect no one to be on guard, we rushed in,” Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips, ”The gate-keeping servants all left, and she didn’t pay attention, what a coincidence.”

”Indeed, could it be Xue Zhi has a problem?” Gao Zhou lowered his voice, ”Just now Xue Zhuo told me that Xue Zhi might not have been born of Madam Xue but was the child of Master Xue and a maid, taken under Madam Xue’s name.”

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, ”Does Xue Zhi herself know?”

”That I don’t know, Xue Zhuo isn’t entirely sure either,” Gao Zhou said.

As the two talked, Jiang Yichun jumped out from the side, and Gao Zhou slapped him on the back, ”You little brat, you run faster than a rabbit.”
