Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2975: Chapter 2976: Curse Master

”My daughter is of the same generation as you, and if she becomes your elder, I’m afraid Lord Bai won’t be pleased,” said Old Master Xue awkwardly.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyebrows shot up, ”You think I’d be happy if you give my husband a concubine?”

”Isn’t it common for men to have multiple wives and concubines? Zhizhi is very obedient and definitely won’t upset you,” Old Master Xue pleaded. It’s not easy for a father to go this far, but Bai Ruozhu absolutely couldn’t agree with his outdated patriarchal mindset.

What’s common about men having multiple wives and concubines? It’s not like her husband intends to take a concubine, so why go against ethics?

Now she didn’t believe for a second that Xue Zhi accidentally lost her clothes. Even if it was an accident, given how chaotic the Xue Family is, couldn’t she settle down a bit? If it comes to it, she could cut her hair and become a nun. Why cause such a fuss?

Isn’t it because she wants someone to take responsibility? Why should others be responsible for you?

Your mother died, you are under a curse; you are indeed pitiful, but...

Wait!

Bai Ruozhu suddenly squinted her eyes; something felt off here!

”Lord Bai, that’s not what I meant. It’s just that I have no other choice. A woman’s reputation once ruined, her life is over. So, I shamelessly ask you, if you disagree, let’s say I never mentioned it, and please don’t let it affect our relationship,” cried Old Master Xue at the end.

”I’ll ask them when I get back; after all, it’s not like I’m the one taking a concubine,” Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and changed her tone.

Old Master Xue appeared delighted, ”Good, good.”

Bai Ruozhu turned back to the inn and informed everyone of the situation.

”I knew there was something off about that woman, truly disgusting,” Jiang Yichun said disdainfully.

Gao Zhou also mocked, ”With those looks still playing the beauty card? Who gave her the confidence?”

”Don’t you all think it’s strange? The jewelry box ended up with her; if she didn’t know some mechanical technique, she would’ve likely taken it already?” Bai Ruozhu said.

”You suspect she’s also one of Qin Kaichang’s people?” Jiang Yichun asked.

”Maybe she is, maybe she isn’t, but there’s definitely something wrong with her,” Bai Ruozhu replied. ”I asked Ju Si; he said they never sent anyone to assassinate Xue Zhuo. They even sent a message to Xue Zhuo earlier, hoping he would find the family heirloom so they could take it.”

Ju Si is that square-faced expert with inner strength.

”If you suspect her, just capture her,” Jiang Yichun was very repulsed by Xue Zhi.

Bai Ruozhu glared at him, ”Capture a daughter of an imperial court official without evidence, and our reputation would be even worse.”

”What are you planning to do?” Jiang Yichun had a vague sense of foreboding.

”She wants to follow us, probably for the Duan Shi family heirloom, so let her follow,” Bai Ruozhu said with a chuckle.

Hearing this, Jiang Yichun’s face fell, ”So you want me to take a concubine?”

A chill emanated from him, and he looked as if he was about to explode.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”What are you thinking? I never said it was you.”

Gao Zhou immediately protested, ”Hey, Bai Ruozhu, that’s enough. I’m still your father-in-law; are you really going to set me up? Your mother-in-law is still here!”

Chushuang looked rather displeased; who would be happy about their husband taking a concubine? Even if it was just for show, it’s unpleasant.

”Why are you all in such a hurry?” Bai Ruozhu said, a bit exasperated. ”When did we ever say it was you? At the time, it was just us there. When Xue Zhi and the maid fell, they didn’t even look over here, so how would they know how many of us there are?”

”Just say it was the guard in front, willing to take the responsibility. Giving the guard a wife, for you guys, it’s a concubine. Old Master Xue seems to love his daughter; he likely won’t object. As for Xue Zhi, her goal is the Duan Shi family heirloom; as long as she can stay with us, she probably won’t object either.”

Hearing this, Muyu, who was guarding outside, suddenly became nervous. Oh no, could it be him again?

”Let Wei Jiu do it; he’s meticulous and unmarried, so he won’t lose out,” Bai Ruozhu added.

”That’s a great idea!” Gao Zhou immediately changed his attitude, smiling broadly. ”As long as she shows her true colors, it’ll be easy to catch her.”

Wei Jiu wasn’t there to defend himself, so Jianqi couldn’t help but say, ”But what if Xue Zhi is patient and waits forever? Wouldn’t that be unfair to Wei Jiu?”

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him inexplicably, ”Even if it turns real, it won’t be a loss for Wei Jiu, right? Don’t act like some chaste martyr. Besides, there’s always a way; we could arrange for her and Wei Jiu to go to the Capital City for recuperation. Wouldn’t she be anxious then?”

This time Jianqi had no reply, and the others also found the plan feasible.

Jiang Yichun looked at the greatly recovered Astrologer and asked, ”A Curse Master cursing someone else, can they also curse themselves as a decoy strategy?”

”Usually not, but they might face backlash,” the Astrologer responded.

Bai Ruozhu clapped her hands together, ”Right, backlash! In what situations would a curse face backlash?”

Ao Song jumped in to say, ”I know this. First, if the Curse Master’s skills are inadequate. Second, if the cursed person’s strength is greater and they repelled it. Third, if the cursed person is someone with profound fortune, killing such a person could violate the Heavenly Path, causing backlash. Fourth, if the cursed person has some treasure defending against the curse, usually they’re unharmed, maybe just minor ailments. So it should be the first or third scenario.”

”Xue Zhi is just a sheltered young lady; how could she have learned Curse Techniques unless someone approached her and taught her? Could she also be a pawn of Qin Kaichang?” Bai Ruozhu wondered.

The Eternal King suddenly headed outside, ”I’m going to make that Ju Si tell the truth.”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched. Another fight? Well, he got results before; at least they learned about the Yimen Ji Clan, so let him do his thing.

The matter was settled like this, and the next morning, the Eternal King appeared with panda eyes.

”Did you lose?” Bai Ruozhu asked gleefully. ℯℯ𝘭.

”How could I! He lost even worse than I did,” the Eternal King boasted. ”I got him to confess.”

Why did Bai Ruozhu’s mind conjure an image of mutual love and battles? Two old men, that’s a bit too intense. Forgive her for being unaccustomed.

”The maid Ju Ye, who gave birth to Xue Zhi, was expelled from the Xue Residence and later found by some Master Ji, who taught her Curse Techniques. Ju Si couldn’t say more, but he claimed that Ju Ye definitely sought out her daughter,” the Eternal King explained.

”So it’s Xue Zhi, then. Ju Si wouldn’t confirm until we guessed it, which means it was orders from his young master?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

The Eternal King nodded, ”Yes.”

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun finished breakfast, took Wei Jiu, and headed to the Xue Residence.

Wei Jiu didn’t feel awkward at all; he saw it as just another undercover mission, just a task.

”Old Master Xue, you might have misunderstood. That day, my wife and I were in the back; it was the guard Wei Jiu who was in front. He didn’t want to embarrass Miss Xue, so he stepped aside,” Jiang Yichun took the initiative to explain.
