Chapter 2961: Chapter 2962: Mother and Daughter Cursed

Very soon Ao Song’s expression changed. He turned his head toward the Astrologer and said, ”She’s been hit by a Curse, and it’s a very vicious Yinmen Curse.”

”I don’t know what you people in the Zhongyuan call it, but I can feel her breath is very weak, and there’s no Monster clinging to her. To break the Curse, we’ll probably have to know more about her situation. In Yin Yang Techniques, different Curses are broken in different ways,” the Astrologer said.

”You don’t have to look, I can handle this one.” Ao Song clapped her hands, then turned to Master Xue and said, ”I’ll write some things down. Hurry and have people prepare them. You can’t miss a single item, and you absolutely can’t make any mistakes, or your daughter will be completely beyond saving.”

Maybe because Ao Song was too young, and she wasn’t dressed like someone from Danliang Country, Master Xue didn’t quite trust her. He looked at Bai Ruozhu and asked, ”Lord Bai, this is?”

”She’s the heir of a Magic Technique Family from the Western Regions, very much favored by His Majesty.” Bai Ruozhu said simply; invoking the Emperor worked better than anything else.

”Yes, yes, I was blind and failed to recognize Mount Tai. Master, don’t take offense. Whatever you need I’ll have people prepare immediately.” Master Xue hurriedly bowed to Ao Song and apologized.

Ao Song didn’t stand on ceremony with him, accepted the bow with all her usual pride, then picked up brush and ink and began to write.

She listed quite a lot of things. If she only said them out loud the servants might not remember clearly, so writing them down was safer.

”This Yinmen Curse isn’t too difficult to break, it just needs a lot of things prepared, which is troublesome. You must hurry. After midnight tomorrow it’ll be too late.” Ao Song added.

”All right, all right, I’ll go right now.” Master Xue didn’t dare delay and simply went himself to personally oversee the people below as they prepared the materials.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the withered, gaunt Xue Zhi and couldn’t help feeling a little emotional. How did such a perfectly good Miss end up offending someone like this?

”All right, I’ve taken this person on. You don’t need to worry about it. Go back and rest. There’s no point in all of you staying here.” Ao Song said.

”Fine, then I’ll go rest. I’ll send two dark guards over to keep watch. If anything happens, call me.” Bai Ruozhu didn’t stand on ceremony with her either.

”Okay, go on, go on.” Ao Song waved her hand.

The Astrologer didn’t rush to leave. ”I’ll keep watch here too. Maybe the one who cast the Curse will show up.”

Bai Ruozhu snickered. ”Makes sense. Then I’ll leave the hard work to you two.”

She held back her laughter and hurried off, in case Ao Song got embarrassed again. Looking at it this way, it didn’t seem so bad—at least the Astrologer was really invested.

When she got back to the Room, she explained the situation to Jiang Yichun. Jiang Yichun thought for a moment and said, ”Master Xue hasn’t really offended anyone, but Xue Wenhui has offended plenty of people over the years. As an Imperial Envoy, the Emperor has sent him to investigate many matters. He’s upright and unbending, and he’s exposed quite a bit of court scandal. It’s normal that people hate him.”

”I’ve heard the Emperor granted him some Hidden Guards, but whether he really has them and how many, that’s unclear,” Jiang Yichun said. ”Maybe some enemy wanted to get at him but couldn’t, so they used a Curse instead, and Xue Zhi got caught in the crossfire.”

”You said that Xue Zhi’s mother suddenly died of illness—could that have been a Curse too?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Jiang Yichun looked at her and said helplessly, ”Don’t tell me you want to go look at the corpse again? Are you addicted to autopsies now?”

Bai Ruozhu winked at him. ”Taking a look isn’t against the law. What if we miss some clue?”

Jiang Yichun was helpless. ”All right, all right, I’ll go with you.”

The two of them left Xiaohei and Jianqi to protect Dengdeng, then quietly headed to the Xue Family’s Memorial Hall.

The Xue Family was in chaos now, and there was no one keeping watch at the Memorial Hall, which actually made it more convenient for the two of them to check things out.

Bai Ruozhu went around to the back and saw Madam Xue lying in the coffin—suddenly, Madam Xue’s eyes opened.

”Ah...” Bai Ruozhu let out a sharp scream of fright and jumped straight into Jiang Yichun’s arms.

”What’s wrong?” Jiang Yichun held her, craned his neck to take a look, and with that look saw not only that the eyes were open, but that blood-tears were flowing down.

He hurriedly covered Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, afraid she’d get scared again.

”I’m fine, it just startled me.” Bai Ruozhu pulled his hand down and walked closer to Madam Xue, examining her carefully.

”It is a Curse.” she said.

She might not practice Curses herself, but she had read plenty of books in the Astrology Tower; one glance was enough to get the general idea.

”Who would bother to Curse the Xue mother and daughter?” Jiang Yichun was puzzled. ”I checked earlier today, the Xue backyard is very clean. Master Xue hasn’t even taken a concubine, and there are no illegitimate sons or daughters. There shouldn’t be any of that wife-versus-concubine drama.”

”If we go by our earlier guess, we figured Xue Zhi and Xue Wenhui ran into something and she accidentally took the hit for him. But now that Madam Xue was the first to be Cursed, and she’s never even met Xue Wenhui, that shows this has nothing to do with Xue Wenhui.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Let’s go back. It’d be bad if someone saw us.” Jiang Yichun pulled her away. Bai Ruozhu mulled it over—if someone keeping vigil saw this scene, wouldn’t they be scared to death?

She was only thinking casually, but she didn’t expect that someone really would die the next day.

The Xue Family’s old servant got up at night to add oil to the Everlasting Lamp, and happened to see what was in the coffin. He screamed miserably on the spot and was scared to death.

The Xue Family was thrown into an uproar. Many people saw Madam Xue’s appearance, and a lot of them said Madam Xue had turned into a zombie.

The Memorial Hall was still some distance from the Guest room, and Master Xue was embarrassed to trouble Bai Ruozhu and the others with every little thing, so Bai Ruozhu and her group only heard the news when they got up the next morning.

Gao De and Chushuang even made a special trip to take a look, and likewise confirmed that she had been killed by a Curse, which was why such a bizarre scene had appeared after death.

When Master Xue heard it wasn’t a real zombie, he let out a huge sigh of relief.

By evening, Master Xue had gathered all the various materials and handed them over to Ao Song.

Ao Song fiddled with the materials for quite a while and finally finished the preparatory work. Then she began drawing a Magic Array and started breaking the Curse on Xue Zhi.

”In a bit she’ll be in a lot of pain. As long as you’re mentally prepared that’s enough. Don’t rush over and interrupt me.” Ao Song warned them specially.

”All right, I understand. Many thanks, Master.” Master Xue said.

Ao Song began performing the Magic Technique, and sure enough, Xue Zhi quickly woke up and started clutching her head, howling in agony.

The screams were terrifying, not at all like Xue Zhi’s own voice, making everyone’s skin crawl.

Fortunately, Master Xue, afraid this matter would affect his daughter badly, had already sent the maids and servants away early. Otherwise, who knew how many timid maids would be scared to tears.

Though Xue Zhi was screaming miserably, that deathly aura on her face was slowly fading.

Suddenly, a figure rushed into the Yard and attacked Ao Song.

”You vile Demon, let go of my sister!” The man drove his sword hard toward Ao Song.

”Careful!” Bai Ruozhu cried out in a hurry. But because Ao Song was performing the Magic Technique, they had all stepped back. At that moment they were quite far from Ao Song, and happened to be on the opposite side from where the man came in. It was already too late to stop him.
