Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2700: Chapter 2701: Trapped

The cave remained silent, and only after a long time did a weak voice echo, ”Don’t be too heartless.”

It was a woman’s voice, but it sounded very old, with a painfully slow speed, as if she were spitting out each word one by one.

Bai Ruozhu felt a chill in her heart, unable to explain why, but she felt an unsettling discomfort from the person inside, though the reason for this discomfort was unknown to her.

”It’s not related to me,” Jade hurriedly distanced herself, seemingly afraid of the person inside, ”It was them who said so.”

The woman let out a cold laugh, a sound reminiscent of a rusty saw cutting through, somewhat unsettling.

”They haven’t learned their lesson yet and want to be cursed again?” The woman still spoke slowly, with a labored breath, as if even speaking a little took effort.

”Please don’t bring that up again. You know I’m not a Merfolk. We’re all powerless. Just eat it,” Jade said, pausing, ”We have guests on the island, claiming to be from the Jiuli Clan.”

Probably trying to appease the woman, Jade seemed to engage in small talk.

”I heard that the Jiuli Clan used to be the masters of the Merfolk, but many years ago, the Jiuli Clan granted the Merfolk their freedom. Do you know about this? The visitors are a young woman, supposedly the granddaughter of some clan leader. Not sure why they’re here, could they be looking to enslave the Merfolk again?”

Jade rambled on for a long time, but the woman remained silent until now, where she laughed again in a peculiar manner, ”Will those old guys agree to that?”

”Surely they won’t agree, so I don’t understand why they let people onto the island. Just don’t meet them,” Jade said puzzled.

The woman seemed interested, speaking slowly, ”They refuse to bow to the Jiuli Clan yet raise you as servants. Now they’re overthinking ways to break the curse; the Jiuli Clan has far more heritage than the Merfolk.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded silently. The woman speaking seemed smart, though her identity was unknown.

”So just eat it, maybe you can catch a distant glimpse of the Jiuli people. I’ve lived this long but have never seen them.” Jade pleaded.

The woman was silent for a few seconds and then said, ”Fine, I’ll eat, but you must help me pass a message to the Jiuli people, asking them to take Feng Ran when they leave.”

”What! Are you crazy?” Jade was greatly frightened, ”No, no, I’ll be executed.”

”You don’t tell, I don’t tell, who would know it was you who passed the word? Feng Ran is not an important figure; she doesn’t know their business. I have only this one wish,” the woman said slowly.

”But...”

”You help me this time, and I promise to cooperate with you in the future, won’t make things difficult for you,” the woman said.

Jade hesitated, and finally said, ”Fine, I’ll try, but they might not agree.”

”How would you know without trying?” the woman said.

”Alright, eat quickly then,” Jade finally agreed.

Inside came the sound of rustling, the wooden box opened, and the smell of blood grew stronger. Were they really eating it raw like this? What’s inside isn’t some monster, is it?

After a while, Jade came out with an empty box and heaved a big sigh, seemingly relieved.

She ought to be reporting back; she wouldn’t return for a while.

After Jade left, Bai Ruozhu quietly exited the Space, planning to enter the cave to speak with the woman inside. Since the woman wanted them to take someone named Feng Ran, she must be willing to speak directly with her.

Just as she entered the cave, golden light suddenly surged around, blinding her, and she was transported from the cave to an unknown place.

Bai Ruozhu reacted quickly, swiftly hiding within the Space. Sure enough, the next moment, Sword Qi burst forth from all directions. Had she not hidden, she would have been shot to pieces.

Didn’t expect Jade to enter so easily; upon entering, a restriction was triggered.

Outside the Sword Qi was still traversing, but fortunately, there were no other changes, and it hadn’t alarmed the people of Yuchen Palace.

But she couldn’t remain trapped here forever, could she?

As time ticked by, outside, the time didn’t appear to change. She glanced at her pocket watch; dawn was approaching.

She needed to return quickly; even if Fo Lanying could cover for her, saying she was sleeping in, it couldn’t be too delayed, or Achun would go mad.

What to do? Time waits for no one, but going out would lead to death or serious injury, exposing her regardless.

At dawn, Fo Lanying, an early riser, opened her eyes and found Bai Ruozhu hadn’t returned, her heart tightened; could Ruozhu be in trouble?

No, she had to maintain composure; if necessary, she must inform Lord Jiang and see what could be done.

Meanwhile, Merfolk were getting up, with some already busy at a distance.

Ordinary Merfolk work from sunrise to sunset, much like common people.

Within the Space, Bai Ruozhu sat cross-legged, eyes closed, suddenly opened her eyes, extended a hand, and harnessed a strand of Essence, aiming at the center of Jianqi Seven.

The next moment she was out of Space, the Essence hit the Array Eye, and the Sword Qi instantly turned to nothingness.

She got up quickly and ran out.

Upon exit, she was back outside the cave, but dared not venture inside again, especially as it was already bright.

She hurriedly returned by the same route, thankfully without encountering anyone from Yuchen Palace, successfully breaking through the Barrier, appearing at the beach.

But Merfolk were already awake, and she feared she couldn’t return to the Room unobserved.

As she hesitated, she suddenly saw a woman carrying a wooden basin approaching.

The beach lacked concealment; it was too late to hide, and the woman quickly arrived before her.

”Are you from the Jiuli Clan...” the woman asked in surprise. Bai Ruozhu then noticed that this woman was Ayi, whom they had helped yesterday.

Bai Ruozhu quickly gestured for quiet, but Ayi suddenly began removing her overcoat, ”Your clothes aren’t ours, too conspicuous. Quickly wear my clothing, fortunately, I put an extra on since it’s cold in the morning.”

She handed the overcoat to Bai Ruozhu, who was slightly bewildered, but the overcoat, though ordinary-looking, felt smooth to the touch, like Jue Lingsha?

Ayi smiled, ”It’s not real Jue Lingsha; it’s made from fish skin, much cheaper than Jue Lingsha. We common Merfolk all wear this.”

”Thank you.” Bai Ruozhu donned the clothing and styled her hair like the woman.

”Why are you helping me?” she asked.

Ayi smiled again, ”You’re the leader from yesterday, I know you had the servant assist me.”

Bai Ruozhu was even more surprised, having worn a human skin mask.

”I don’t have any special power, just sharp eyes,” Ayi smiled gently, ”And my help isn’t without desire.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled back, quite fond of this frankness and straightforwardness.```
